Frozen In Time
Okay, so, my other threads were getting spammed to the extreme by rajesh so I decided to make yet another thread about fit. And in this thread, rajesh is banananned! Rajesh no posting at all in this topic unless I tell you otherwise! Stop spamming out board!
The story: Dink is a rich lazy bum after retiring from adventuring, but the bartenders daughter ran away. Dink decides to come out of retirement this one time to look for her. This is though, after he saves her, he discovers that Bessy, isn't really Bessy!
There are quite a few monsters, puzzles and weapons in this Dmod. Only a little swearing. And a few 'medieval' insults. It's gonna be good! And you better believe it!
Oh, and one more thing. I'm not working on this Dmod by myself. Lurks is also playing a fairly large part as well. He cam up with this whole story!

Anyway,what %age of the work is completed;full version/demo??
Nice idea.
Dude i think your Dmod is going to be very popular because of RAJESH
well anyway good job for lurks with coming up with the story

Please stop talking about me&see my new dmod development thread.
The other FIT topic was fine, you could've asked Redink1 or a mod to remove the trash from it...
So, like I asked in the other topic: any juicy screenshots yet?
(Btw, I don't know, but not many Dmods actually have a development thread. Why this one?)
So, like I asked in the other topic: any juicy screenshots yet?
(Btw, I don't know, but not many Dmods actually have a development thread. Why this one?)
Well, I saw a couple with a dev thread. So I decided to make one. And most people like to see screenshots and talk a bit about upcoming D-Mods.
So,more screenshots please&DD95 whats the rest of the story,dmod categories&other than lurks who's helping ya?
Well, my computer is helping me, I'm helping me, my Dad is helping me. Not with any story or anything, just stuff like what makes a good adventure game. And if you want screenshots, wait. I'll put some up when they come up!
My Dad came up with some real cool stuff which makes a great game. With the monsters and stuff, they will not always show up on the same screen over and over again. That's too predictable and boring. What we're gonna do is make it random. So, if you walk onto a screen, the monster may appear, or it may not. And when you talk to people, instead of them always saying the same thing, they will say different things.
This way, the game is playable many times, and much more enjoyable.
This way, the game is playable many times, and much more enjoyable.
Wesley has done that before. Unless you do it right, it could screw your d-mod up. I can't be bothered to explain why... just be careful.
Man, I feel so lifeless today.
Man, I feel so lifeless today.
You should also consider the gain of actually putting in that much work into stuff a lot of players won't ever see (and there aren't that many who will play a random dmod). For example, while such optional stuff seems very cool, wouldn't that time be better spent adding to the original linear game? Obviously, some dmods take pride into being very nonlinear and replayable, but that's because they were built as such from the ground up.
A good game takes time. Lots of time. So if this is going to be good, I'll spend a lot of time on each and every aspect of the game. Doing it really isn't that hard though. You'd have to have a sponge for a brain to stuff it up. All you have to do is make a script and do:
int &randy = random(2, 1);
if (&result == 1
{
int &bonca = create_sprite(x, y, brain, seq, frame);
sp_base_walk(&bonca, seq);
sp_speed(&bonca, #);
sp_script(&bonca, "script");
}
if (&result == 2)
{
}
Then attach it to each screen you want a bonca to possibly appear on.
Would it actually work if you put nothing in a if statement? Or would the whole game just crash?
int &randy = random(2, 1);
if (&result == 1
{
int &bonca = create_sprite(x, y, brain, seq, frame);
sp_base_walk(&bonca, seq);

If there's nothing in an if statement, then the whole thing isn't needed. In your example, you can leave out the whole second if-block.
Also, you might want to add a ')' after the first if
Also, you might want to add a ')' after the first if
Oh, right. Missed that. Anyway, I've always thought it's quite boring listening to people saying the same old thing. So I'm making them say about 5 - 10 random things. (Sensible though. Not random as in silly.) Should make the game way more enjoyable.
Good DD95cyou made this game cause, then we've got FoT and FiT. That's the only good thing in this D-Mod! Lol! Not really.
Well, mine isn't FiT. It's just fit. Or FIT if you want. Remember that now.
I think he can call it whatever he wants yet it may cause some people to become confused

Okay, so, Frozen In Time is only gonna be a few more weeks. I don't think I need beta testers, but if you really want your name in the credits, then I'll accept one tester. Got that? Only one. Anyone interested?
Sorry, man, I know you, and you'r enot beta testing material. Sorry. Maybe if you learn to play games thouroughly. I mean, you haven't even finished the original Dink yet!
Anyone else?
Anyone else?
I have time now but don't know if I will have when you finish the dmod.
Wouldn't it better to ask for testers once you are ready to email the dmod for beta testing?

Stop lying Unreal. I've seen your save game slots, you have not.

I could beta test your D-Mod DD95 but I must warn you, if it's too slow I don't know if I'll be able to finish it...
as you can clearly see i did a which i thought as meaning in real life that you do not mean what you just said like e.g. dink smallwood is the wost game in the world
do you get it now?
do you get it now?

I'll do my best I meant that if you've made it very large and without any clear obejctive and what to do and so on it will get slow. Hopefully it isn't
EDIT: I'll sleep now, the time here is over 3:00 AM Why don't you PM me?

I've got some more screenshots.

If I haven't yet mentioned - Dink lives in a town called New Stonebrook. Stonebrook got burned down and now there's New Stonebrook.

Fixed.
About the stats, I will change them. It's just that - I don't know how high the stats should be at the beginning.

Not bad. Looking forward to see a quality D-MOD after loads of really shootty ones.
And in case you're wondering - the fire does move.
The Screenshots look nice, DD95! Gongratulations!
I just don't understand, what the hell it has to do with name 'Frozen In Time'?

Update:
So, in the town, I'm having merchants set up their stalls around the place. So far I've got a meat merchant who sells Beef, Chicken, Venison, Bonca, Duck, Whale, Dog, Cat and Dragon. Should I have anything else? Oh, and I'm borrowing some scripts and graphics from Survival and Changing them a little to suit FIT.
Any ideas on what other merchants I should have in town? Maybe a cloth merchant? Suggestions would be nice.

Well, it depends on whether or not there is any point in adding anything else. Do all those meats do the same thing? Or do they have unique properties? Don't just add extra options for the sake of it.
Your time would be better spent on improving important parts of the game.

Hmm, I s'pose, but the merchants add an extra 'flavour' to the game, if you know what I mean...
So far, the meat just adds to your health. Should I have, like, temporary stat boost or something?
So far, the meat just adds to your health. Should I have, like, temporary stat boost or something?
Well, getting stat boosts from ordinary animal meat would be a little odd
If you check out Survival it's supposed to be logical. In Survival the only reason why food gives you stat boosts is because you feel less hungry when you eat it. When you don't eat for a long time you feel weak so you eat regularly to keep your stats up. So is there any reason why all this meat wouldn't give you a stat boost?
That's true. But should I just get rid of the merchants? Or maybe they could just sell weapons and such?
Should probably have at least one weapons merchant. May want to have items be both obtainable from questing or straight cash. Think it'd be cool to have a couple of different options.
Novelity food having special properties is still a pretty good idea. Could definitly give the land a more foreign feel.

It would be cool if you could trade stuff... Maybe a longsword, some bombs and some other crap for a clawsword

They already used that in the original Dink Smallwood in Windemere.

I think he meant trading it directly. You can trade your longsword and bombs for gold and then use that gold to buy a claw sword, but that wouldn't be a direct trade.
This is what your saying:
[longsword + bombs + crap] -> [gold] -> [claw sword]
What he means is just:
[longsword + bombs + crap] -> [claw sword]

Hmmm, Dink should have some weapons for the cave, the second and final area, shouldn't he?
Anyway, about the food...
What special properties should the food have? Temporary stat boosts? Permanent stat boosts? I could try and implant Erwin's Survival, but that might be too much trouble. What do you guys think?
Also, I'm putting in a local shop in town. I'm still gonna have the merchants. But the stuff from the shop will be of better quality, and of higher price.
I'm trying to put a little humour into FIT, and seeing as the shop owner is a woman who looks just like Dink's Mum, they have a fairly humourous conversation...
Dink: Hey Mum, I thought you were dead?
Lady: Uh... excuse me?
Dink: You're not my Mum?
Lady: No, I'm not your Mum.
Dink: Good God! You wouldn't believe how often this happens to me!
Say I'm in some village on the other side of the world, then BAM, there's someone who looks just like Libby!
Or if I go visit a farm, there's one of Smilestein's many clones!
It's as if there's only a few people in the world, and they all look exactly the same!
Lady: Hmmm... I've never seen anyone who looks like you before.
Dink: Yes, that's rather odd, isn't it?
Lady: Anyway, welcome to my shop...
Dink: Smallwood. Dink Smallwood.
Lady: Interesting surname... SMALLwood.
Dink: Uh... I'll take that as a compliment, Miss...
Lady: Mary-Ann Cleché.
I got the idea for this conversation from one of my friends. Is it funny? I'm not very good at being humourous.

Well, your not exactly lacking on food types
Why not do both? The lowest type could simply give you some health, the next level could give a temporary boost, and the highest could give different/random permanent stats boosts.
Funny conversation

Maybe some of the meat could give a temporary spell of some kind?
Dragon-Fire (Maybe the BBQ flamethrower graphic?)
Bonca- Tail Attack
Whale- Water Attack
Etc.
Btw, maybe the whale meat could also let Dink walk on a certain part of water to a secret island.

Hey, that's an awesome idea, pillbug! How long do you suggest the temporary spells/skills last?
Dunno. If Dink eats the whale and he can walk on a certain part of water, maybe just add a few seconds to the time it takes Dink to get to the water area. That way it would give the player a rough idea of how long it lasts. It's hard to say. What would happen if dink was walking on the water, though, and ran out of time? Die? Get sent back to the ground? Or should the meat just enable a warp by the water so that he wouldn't ACTUALLY walk on water? So many choices....
Skull, the whole point of the whal meat is that Dink won't drown when he walks on water.
I've got an idea. Maybe Dink could lose the Water Walk Skill after he goes to the island and comes back. So if he wants to get back to the island, he needs to eat more meat. Or, if I have a time limit and Dink's on the water when the time runs out, then maybe he would drown and you'd have to load or start over.

DD95, that's exactly, what I meant! He would drown, after he can't walk on water.
Got it?
Got it?
Oh, sorry Skull. I thought you meant something else by that.
[i"*Insert Mystery Island gameover music here*"[/i]
Hey, that's a great idea!
[i"*Insert Mystery Island gameover music here*"[/i]
Hey, that's a great idea!
Those are good ideas but I would suggest getting effects like that from different things like magical potions because it would seem so strange to get it from meat.
I have an idea. Magical BBQ sauce! Buy a bottle from one merchant, then buy meat, then pour it on the meat. Different sauces do different things. Sideeffects may include headache, vomiting, loss of blood, temporary memory loss, permanent memory loss, and a low health bar.
Hmm, maybe not side effects. But the magical BBQ sauce is a good idea. Any more suggestions?
Mmm, I spupose you're right.
You're doing the details of the merchants, does that mean you've finished the mapping or do you do it as you go along?
Oh, no! I haven't finished the mapping! Not at all! I'm just going to download the Good as Eternity graphics pack now so I can get those non-burnable trees. I'm putting a forest in and I thought those might be useful.
Numbers were invented back in [i]"Dink"[i/] times, weren't they? Well, I'm putting in a guy who absolutely loves numbers. He tries to tell Dink all about numbers He tries to tell him about the number 1, 0, Pascal's triangle, triangle numbers, irrational numbers, pi etc. Do you think you should get the option of whether you want to hear about this stuff or not? Or should Dink just scorn the guy?
Numbers were invented back in [i]"Dink"[i/] times
Nope, they already existed several thousand years before that, actually. Never seen Roman numerals, for example?
EDIT: I say make it one of those classic "when is he going to STOP TALKING?!" scenes. You know, where the guy starts talking, the screen fades out, shows "2 hours later" and he's still talking (add some jokes in his explanation or whatever) and close it with something humorous/something that might/will help you on your quest.

Would anyone want to hear it? If it's just a maths lesson it seems a bit pointless. Have some kind of (funny?) conversation about it but don't get too long-winded.
Hmm, I like reading books about maths. I recently read a book called The Number Devil, written by Hans Magnus Enzenburger or someone like that. It was pretty cool. I thouroughly enjoyed it. Anyway, I think I might use that 2 hours later... thing.
That might be good. Have the the screen go black and have it say two hours later, then when you can see again the guy wraps up and Dink is now on the floor sleeping. That would be ok for me.
Btw, I enjoy books. What was The Number Devil about?
Besides the obvious?
Btw, I enjoy books. What was The Number Devil about?
Besides the obvious?
It was about a boy, Robert, who had nightmares every night. He slid down endless slides, he was eaten by fishes etc. Then one night, a number devil saved him from all those endless slides and fish he'd been going through, and decided to teach him about numbers. In the end, Robert becomes a number devil apprentice of the fifth class, the lowest, and recieves a little necklace thing.
Anyway, it might be hard to make on the floor sleeping. I'd need to make a whole new graphic and, well, I'm not all that good at making graphics. Maybe someone else could make it for me..

I also like maths (sometimes ) but I thought in the middle of a Dink game it wouldn't be so interesting.
For Dink sleeping you could use the dead Dink graphics without the blood, as has been used in some other D-Mods.

Okay, I need help. I've made the Dink dead graphic without the blood, and added it in the miscellanious graphics section. It's there, but when I do this:
sp_pseq(1, 98);
sp_pframe(1, 4);
he doesn't change. Am I doing something wrong?

This horror is brought to you by the number 13 and the letter Q.
So... how should I have done it?
What for? There's nothing wrong, is there?

Try:
sp_base_walk(1, ?);
sp_base_idle(1, ?);
sp_dir(1, ?);
-----------------------------
When there's "?", it means, put the number of sleeping Dink here.

Hmm, the base_walk thing might work, I don't know.
But sp_idle? Wouldn't that run through the whole sequence when Dink's idle? And if it does, it means he'll turn into lots of different things seeing as I put the sleeping Dink graphic in the misc graphics sequence. The misc graphics sequence is where I have all the non-animated things. Like Dink sleeping.
sp_dir?! What's that gonna do?!
Maybe I could do:
sp_base_walk(1, 98);
sp_pframe(1, 4);
freeze(1);
That might work...

The problem with animating Dink is his idle, so you'll need to get rid of that. You can set his brain to 0, or his idle at -1, ie.
