Stream starts today @ 12PM EST

Hang out via Twitch chat (account required) or the irc.freenode.net #dinksmallwood channel

-------------------

I had an idea recently: to stream creating a DMOD live on Twitch taking suggestions for quests, npcs, dialogue, mapping from community members that watch. This of course would take multiple stream sessions and perhaps some off camera modding as well. The streams would be recorded and the DMOD once completed would be uploaded here.

The DMOD itself would probably be a romp or quest depending on how it goes and suggestions would have to be kept simple (no complicated mechanics.) The community could also make simple scripts to be implemented.

There's also a possibility for voice calls and other fun things during the streams.

Thoughts? Would this work? Any additional ideas? Is there an interest fo such a thing?

I'm not a really big video stream fan in general, but it sounds at least like an interesting idea.

Dink seems fairly well suited to this, since you can slap something together pretty quick. And you could handle the more fiddly bits like fine-tuning hardness offline if they became a drag.

Not Twitch. Definitely not Twitch. It was bad before Google bought them...now it's worse.

Google didn't buy twitch.

Also, the idea of live streaming sounds pretty interesting. I doubt I could be around much due to timezone thingies though. You'd probably have to do screen decorating outside of the stream, and I guess that whatever would be produced would be pretty strange.

Yes they did.

And on top of that, they implemented some delicious Content ID, so an official Twitch Stream ended up getting muted...not that Google cares.

Whoever is in charge of Twitch is a massive imbecile. Not selling out to Google because Google strengthening its monopoly on streaming is fine...but then they have plans to sell out to Amazon who also offers video streaming? Ok.

Twitch is still crap.

It could be fairly helpful to observe someone create a DMOD on stream for us. I can easily be there for the time you do it.

If this happens, could you also record it and upload it somewhere for us to view/download as a DMODding resource?

EDIT: The streams would be recorded I'm stupid. I'll chop that question in half - Can we have the recordings?

Yes Skurn, my intention is to upload it on my YouTube channel. If you're asking for a download, there are browser extensions that allow you to do so straight from YouTube itself.

It's not really meant to be a tutorial, but if people have questions about DMODding during the stream I'll be happy to answer them and make examples.

I've already done a test stream and everything seems to run fine. We just need to hammer out what would be a good time that would get a reasonable amount of Dink viewers.

The time difference with me is about 6 hours, so late evenings is probably going to be problematic for me (and for other viewers in the CET timezone, if any). To attract people from other continents weekends would be best I guess. But you'd have to see if there are enough people outside of the US to make it worth your while. As for me... I put a big 'maybe' over my head, I just don't know how much time I'm going to have.

Sounds like a borefest to me, BUT I'd like to see it and drop by anyway. I'm awake at the darnedest times, so any time can work for me, in theory. Just shout a date and time and everyone can chime in on whether it works for them?

I guess a Saturday, afternoon (EST) would be the best option here.

So let's go with Nov. 8th, 12pm. (EST)

I can't do it next week for work related reasons, but I'm fairly certain I'll be free at the provided date. Even if people can't make it right away, I'll probably stream for at least a few hours.

Anyways, I've been doing unofficial streams here and there so feel free to pop in those. It's just me aimlessly coding mapping an insane amount of feature creep so you've been warned. I'll have to work on my DMODDing habits for the official stream.

That's... 19:00 at GMT+2, unless the stupid "daylight saving" times throw a monkey wrench into it. That should work for me.

I've posted a video of the (mostly complete) intro for the DMOD (Be advised: crude humor)

This reveals the main plot:
Dink is teleported to an unfamiliar island by a mischievious fairy. He must find a way off the island and punish the fairy that did this to him.

On the subject of intros, I am fairly well off with doing intros for DMODs, however video intros on the other hand are completely alien to me. If anyone could help me on that front it would be a great help

I could, if you like. If you want an example of my video intros, you can check out any DSPT intro on the channel (including all the intros of other DSPT member who post videos, which were also made by me, excluding the dink mysteries intro which was made by Skull), or the intro on my video reviews on my main channel: This one for example

And then send me a description of what you want the text to say and all that stuff. It may take me little while to make though, I'm quite busy with work and stuff.

I was more asking for instructions on how to do it myself. It's something I'd like to learn, but if you're offering, something for this project along the lines of 'Dink Smallwood Community Stream DMOD' would suffice. I've also been looking to do an outro that has my Youtube, Twitch, Twitter info on it. Just a simple image, but I can't figure out how to do that either.

I really don't have a clue when it comes to editing video at all etc are there any good (legally) free programs etc?

Sorry for the delay in replying, I got a new job that's been beating me into the ground all week

Um... since the stream is so near, I probably won't be able to make an intro in time for that but I'm assuming you plan to do more in the future, so I can still make you one for future streams/videos.
Making a decent intro for your videos, or a decent outro is not really something you can just tell someone how to do, it takes time to learn (youtube tutorials are good). Unfortunately most free video editing software is limited and mostly garbage, Sony Vegas is what I have always used, it gets the job done. It's not free.

I'll make an intro and outro sometime, and send it to you to have a look at.

The stream has ended after going on for a bit over 2 hours.

Thanks to everyone who participated. I hope to do this again in the future. Maybe we could play a DMOD or get a co-host next time.

I'd also be interested in seeing other people stream Dink.
