He's a musician. He wroye and performed one of my favourite songs: F.O.T.F. based on Terry Goodkind's Faith of the Fallen. I've been trying to find a site with the lyrics to his songs but no site so far has them.

No one's heard of him? Here's proof to the countary:

With his 2005 release, "In Your Eyes", Hargo has established himself as San Diego's hottest act, winning acclaim from such fans as Grammy-winners Seal and the B-52's Kate Pierson.

In fact the author of the aforementioned book had heard F.O.T.F. and said he quite likes it and his honoured that he was such an inspiration.

slayer, you have made the mistake of assuming that just because no one here has heard of him so far that no one has. That is a false assumption.

No. Others that didn't read Terry Goodkind's books would get it. Almost all Objectivists would, especially those that read Ayn rand's Atlas Shruggled, since Faith of the Fallen, which the album and song is based on, is basically a scaled down version of that book.

Who reads these days? With the exception of people who reply back and forth on these message boards, not many..

Odd. I could swear Christopher Paolini's Eldest sold millions within the first month. And Terry Goodkind's latest Sword of Truth book made New York Best Seller List at #1. And for that matter Harry Potter sells millions. In fact overall yearly book sales are in the thens of billions. Or maybe even higher. Anyway on average we all buy more than 2 books a year.

Also I think there are College/University students. It's rather common for them to read a lot of text books.

So unless you were being a smart arse (and I hope you were) you are very wrong. I assume you were just joking around.

ADDITITON: Ayn Rand... You commie. I assume that is a joke. Ayn Rand was far from a commie, as are those that follow her beliefs. Rather they are indivualists. We are no commies... instead we believe in the indivual as more important than collective. We are capitalists.

EDIT: And yes, there is scarcely a true sentence in that post. I should know I wrote it.
I mean no offense to Rand or her beliefs. Just want to make sure that those out here that are not in tune to what we are talking about can understand.

ADDITION, NOT ADDITITION: I must say that it is obvious that I do not dwell in the same circles as you do( though I not sure that I dwell in any circles currently, which may, ironically, make me more of an individualist than I lead myself to believe). I have not heard of Hargo, period. If, however, you would like to know the differences in the style of the early 20th century composers Rachmaninoff and Ravel, I would be more than happy to supply you with information- Hargo, however, though I am sure is very interesting to you, strikes no memory in my knowledge of music... Wow. Paolini sold has millions? I guess it's just yet another example that you don't really need any talent or skill to be successful. Eragon was so unbelievably trite that I only got through a few chapters before I found that I could take no more of his highly derivative ideas and unimaginitive prose (from the best of my recollection).

Rather they are indivualists.

I disagree. And Eldest had some philosphical gems (in my opinion) in it that Eragon did not. the philosophy of Paolini's elves is much to my liking. Of course that comment will no doubt make you all the less interested in Paolini.

Lets all bounce on a Hargo stick.

EDIT: I had problems with Paolini's elves, personally. I liked Arya's perspective, but some of the others... like Vanir, really annoyed me. In a way I flowed through the book, taking in some of the philosophical aspects, but... quite honestly I was more interested personally to read about Roran's descent into the void...

And just out of curiousity (I promise not to pick too much), what was it that you didn't like about the elves?

Well, just that they seemed as though they were a race at odds with each other, though they themselves denied it... Also they are constantly babbling about philosophy, nature, and history... which I found kind of slow going. The songs and poems are neat, but as in LOTR, I tended to skip past them and read the passage later, otherwise it seemed to me to disturb the plotline. Dwarves are irratible, but they at least have attitude, and still do stupid things, even though they are also supposedly ancient and infinitely wise... And don't get me started with Roran... if you recall the first book, Galbatorix is described as going on such a quest for vengence of his so-called friends, and ended up destroying order as we know it. While Roran's character may not have been demurred as such, he has become cold and fanatical... in other words, a zealot to his own cause, almost begging to be a martyr.

I apologize. I was overly emphatic in my language (which can happen when I get, well, emphatic). However, I did find nothing particularly praise-worthy in Paolini's work. His book was generic fantasy (not horrible) told through bland and uninteresting prose. I read many books between the ages of 10 and 14 that were at least equal to (if not better) that the quality of his work, yet, inexplicably, were far, far less famous.

Not all who go on such quests turn out like Galbatorix. In the Sword of Truth books Richard often goes on quests on righteous wrath (especially when people kidnap his love, Kahlan), but throughout the series Richard remains a hero and does not go the way Galbatorix did. Also Galbatorix started from a level of selfishness and self-interest gone too far that Roran did not. Roran has what is described in the Sword of Truth as one of the most rational and most dangerous things: righteous wrath. Roran does not want to be a matyr. He wants the one he loves back, just like Richard did when he used a powerful spell to kill thousands of Imperial Order troops in one go when they blocked his access to Kahlan. Note they were evil men anyway. To want the person you want back is not vengance. It's love.

Wow, you know, could you make it any more apparent that you live in a fantasy world than by quoting "Wizard's Rules"?

Actually, Striker, that isn't true. the Wizard's Rules are actually just the name Terry Goodkind gave them for his book series. They aren't something he made up just for a fantasy world. he doesn't write that way. He doesn't even consider his books fantasy. He considers them philosophical books with fantasy elements. He writes anout Objectivism, not fantasy. The Wizard's Rules are his personal beliefs, not a fantasy creation.

ADDITION: What you are saying implies that the medium determines the truth of the message as opposed to reality, which is a load of rubbish.

And note Draconic that it is not Sunday, so you do not have to give me a sermon...

Living a reclusive life in a small room in a monastery, with only a computer, Hargo, and the entire collection of Terry Goodkind novels to keep you company... there you feel the need to deliver your words of wisdom on the crusade of the rightous and the coilition of the willing. Call me a nihilist, but many of your posts seem to suggest that you are quixotic and rebellious- just as my posts reflect a view of nihilism and cynicism, but hey, that's my problem, not yours...

Is Terry Goodkind your soulmate or something? It is alright to have a favorite author, sure... But you refer not only to his books, but to him as a person- constantly. You describe yourself as a Individualist, but you only discern this by taking someone else's philosphy and quoting it... If his novels are fascinating and hold immortal truths, I don't know... I do know that a similar view was held by L. Ron Hubbard. And now look, DraconicTomCruise, you have me preaching... was that your plot all along? To make me roast in ironic miscontent? It won't work.

ON to the point of Rightous Wrath. I don't want to get to technical, but in Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, he describes Hester's husband Chillingsworth as a rightous and loving man that has been twisted to a beast that is not a man from his longing quest to retrieve his one love from Dimmesdale, whose own love for Hester cause him to "suffer as no man has suffered", and Dimmesdale in effect becomes an object of self-hatred and guilt.

Is Terry Goodkind your soulmate or something?

Ok, now that comment is just totally out of line. Just because I happen to agree with his philosophy in it's entirity does not mean I feel that way about him. I only quote his comments becuase he words it better than I do. deciding to use the wording of others when they put it better than they do does not make me less of an individual. Rather it means that I recognise their elogant use of language.

And now look, DraconicTomCruise

There was a plot, and if you spent more time reading on the philosphies of Doyle, Poe, Hawthorne, and Melville- maybe you would understand the sort of philosphy I generally believe in. If you want to play mind games by saying that my post actually strengthens your argument, fine by me, though you will be destined to only cause yourself more pain in the long run. I know that my argument is not strongly supported, but that is because I do not take the time to memorize every passage in my favorite books, so that I may cite on contact... Do not mistake me for a conformist, Tom Cruise, because I am actually a firm believer in the ideals of Trotskyism (though not the ways in which it has been implemented), and the need for social reformation towards global unity to avoid what will otherwise be doomsday, but since you don't know much on my philosophy, I will not try and bore with my seemingly decadent thinking...

Yes, I suppose my comment could be construed that way, but really, what I mean is that it's more like wearing a large sign around your neck that says: "Hello. My grasp on reality is tenuous." EDIT: It is alright. I do not want to do your enemy...yawn... It is just that personally I think that institutions need to be more restrictive on the rights of people as a group and more lenient on individual rights... restrictions should be fitted to a person in accordance to their illnesses, mental health, handicap, and citizenship... To deny people rights is wrong... but if we allow people to openly express their freedom from society defeats the purpose of having a government at all. In accordance to the philosphy of Hobbes and Machiavelli, government is an institution designed to limit people's rights so that they will not commit criminal acts, or acts of stupidity without due punishment. Thus we can keep order in the world and avoid catastrophy and chaos.

I never said that I believed that the government was perfect... and in a lot of ways it is pretty bad, but input and debate can make A More Perfect Union, my friend (imagine a global union).
Say that people forget their woes and grievances, but this may never happen. I wish to believe in the elite only because otherwise I would be undoubtably depressed at the state of things... It is clear that what is being done by the current generation is wrong, and this will need to change, because our generation will be the one to deal with all the crap that has been construed on us through the last 200 years. We will be the ones effected by global-warming, we will be the ones effected by global strife, we will be the ones that will leave a lasting impact on the generation after- but age old ideals are in decline and we are in a state of moral crisis. People look to Christ only as a reason to say that they are right, but not as a figure of the divine rules of courtesy, respect, and forgiveness. Also, I think that it is unfair to say that I am not allowed to engage in a philosophical debate when I feel the need. It keeps my mind sharp, and, Josh, if you have failed to notice as of yet- this is the off-topic forum, so I can post whatever the Hell I want... if you don't like it, then don't read it- it really does not matter if you are too daft to realize that I do believe in my opinions, and not because someone or some book told me so. I have expiremented with several different view-points, with such stages as being an Anarchist, a Capitalist, an Elitist- I find that my current view is really more personal and cannot be derived from any name or idea. While there are philosophers that I agree with to an extent, there are none that truly reveal my beliefs. This is what makes me and Draconic different. While Draconic becomes the acolyte to anothers disciplines, I make my own. It does not mean that you necessarily have to believe me, but do keep in mind that I wish to share my opinion and viewpoint, as is just in a rightous world. I could always be wrong, but I never asked you to believe that I am right. Right and wrong are in truth really just words that people use to define whether or not something correlates with their viewpoint or not. You do not agree with me, and that is fine, as long as you agree with yourself you will in turn become a better person. The trick is to liten to one's heart and formulate your own hypotheses based on real life experiences, not just philosophical debates or evangelists. If you are lost and feel the need for someone else to tell you what to think, that is fine, but I will not approve of it. While it is part of my agenda that I convince others that my ideas will, in fact, be beneficial to not just this generation, but the human race- I most humble myself and realize that it is not with one voice that the human race is represented, but with all the voices chattering in different words. Do I believe that the world is perfect? Far from, and in reality I doubt that it is really achievable, but, philosophically speaking, it is a good point to try and work towards, because there is always the chance to motivate people to try and improve the world as we know it now. Also, we do have examples of the workings of a perfect world. Read Plato's The Republic or Moore's Utopia if you need evidence of my point.
Thus, do not condone me for pushing my opinions. As you say, there is human nature, and I believe that it is also a part of human nature for one to be expressive of their ideas. If one cannot express their own ideas and be able to show how it is different for another's, then there is really no point in even thinking. So if you do not want to think for yourself, don't do it. Just turn on your television and allow yourself to be brainwashed- it will make it easier for those of us that are inspired to try and be a leading influence.

EDIT: You are right about Plato's cave concept. But I thought I already said this, but, do know that I do not completely agree with any one philosopher, but make up my own ideas on how people should live in the world. Did you only read some of what I said? Because it seems you missed like half the points. Like the point that I really don't care if you hate my way of thinking- you are not going to take away my ability to express it.

Time for another session of philosphy 101. What is the philosphy behind Ehasl's many D-Mods? Is he influenced by an outside force? Maybe it is Terry Goodkind, or maybe just Terry Pratchet. Whatever the author is, I'm pretty sure it is a Terry... This Terry and Ehasl are trying to destroy the DN with Gungs, Coconut monkeys, and ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ Original.

What is your thoughts , and how do you think we can stop Terry from influencing Ehasl to begin another D-Mod?

Post your thoughts, here, at philosphy 101 Dink Network style.

Newsflash: rp64 has just unveiled that Ehasl is really Geraldo Rivera, and that the two of them share a single bed hotel room at the night owl inn. I guess giant whiskers really turn rp on.

I'd say it's either Terry Jones or Terry Gilliam.
