What are the minimum system specifications for Dink?

A PC made in the last 10 years.

How... Inspired...

It is no resource hog by any means. Any computer that can't run it probably does not function anymore.

Pentium... 100MHz? 2Mb graphics card? Windows 95? Why? Doesn't your PC run it?

Nah my computer runs it fine, for that matter, I used to have a computer that could run WDE in 32 bit mode.

Any way, I want to know the specs because I want to build a Dink Smallwood server/dedicated machine with a special browser designed to only open The DN!

Because that's not completely pointless!

That makes no sense, especially considering Dink is an offline game.

You know what "server" means, right?

It's funny because I have the exact minimum requires for v1.05 sitting right in front of me.

So are a lot of the games on steam, but it's not like that matters, right?

Although, a steam-like setup that includes released d-mods would be kind of interesting. All it basically would be is an auto-downloader.

Because I am attempting to make a Dink MMORPG run from that server!

A yum/apt-get/whatever-like DMod package manager as a part of DFE/DFArc/whatever... 's not a bad idea.

but what are the reccomended specs for Dink 1.08, that's the more interesting question.

Much less than that for some of the D-mods that you can play with 1.08

Ask Redink1 about v1.08, and Seth about v1.07.

I don't think minimum specs actually matter since so many people use it to play DMODs. And if you put in enough effort you can make it that it requires a lot more than the original game. I remember that firing multiple hellfires at scarabs in Cloud Castle 2 definitely slowed down my computer significantly.

Before Christmas, when I had a crap-as graphics card, running Dink in true colour significantly slowed down my PC.

dang you! i have been wanting a better graphics card for months!

well the funny thing is i can play 3d games like the sims and wow, but i can't play 3d flash games, model in ANY modelling program, and i have a normal framerate of 4 FPS in most 3d things. it even went down to 2 FPS once. yet it works fine on some things, others it doesn't. BTW my graphics crd is built into the motherboard and has 32MB shared memory, meaning i only of 480MB RAM

and yet dink can still lock up

4 frames per second? That's... kinda... low.

Get a new graphics card.

32-bit graphics mode slowed my computer while fading up and down, so it was very annoying when I had to go back and forth through houses.

When playing any flash games, my computer will keep a stable 1.2 FPS

i have been DEMANDING my parents get me a new one, but my father said he had to wait for something to come so he can build something for the computer technician so he can talk with him. i can't see why he can't just ring him up.

anyway i have been as low as 2 FPS while playing WoW. kind of stuttery movement. but i am lucky i see the environment at all, since my graphics are so crap. most of the time 3d stuff has lines through it, usually the background colour, and everything behind the bars is hidden. so that is why i don't make my own graphics for dink in those programs. i just can't (try sticking long strips of opaque tape about 1 inch wide across your screen with an inch gap between each piece. now try and modell a 3d graphic. hard?)

Gees Danny, I have had to buy gear for my computer (cards etc) and I have managed. You can't depend on your parents all the time!

How on earth do you play Warcraft with 2 fps?

This is me being totally not surprised at all.

lst night i had to play with only 1 FPS...
...yet i still manage with (usually) over 500MS ping (sometimes even over 1000MS)

no problems there, just wait until the framerate gets back up to 4 FPS, latency doesn't really bother me (until i get disconnected while in a fight and my char freezes and i die)

Actually I think I have whitnessed a PC that wouldn't have been able to run Dink.It was more than ten years ago,i asked my friend "do you have the game "prehistoric" (you know the 2d one with the cave man collecting all sorts of sweets and such) ?" And he said "nah , my PC can't handle it."
So..i think that's a PC that couldnt run dink.Allas I don't know the specs.
