It sounds like it will have all the elements that made me love CC2.
I'm looking forward to it...
I'm looking forward to it...
Yeah! Finally some info from CC3!! Yippee!!
Screenshots we're nice!
New party members!
I like the idea of SC7! In part 2 they said they will repeal SC7... It may brings some more jokes to game aswell...
Cause it's part of CCs, I can wait forever!
If I die before that, I'll come from Heaven to play it!!

I like your dmod making style. Having all 3 endings to continue is a big task. And expectations are high.
Feels like it would be worth the wait.
Unless it becomes another Necromancer- forever to be 'releasing tomorrow'.

Hey, Sabre! Good to have some infomation about CC 3!
Could you tell me the name of it? Like CC two was "Cloud Castle 2: 'Scarab'"
I really want to know name of it!!
CCs rules!!

The name? No, I think I'll keep that under wraps for now.
Anywho, the game is making slow progress again. I've started tinkering with what had already been done - fine tuning the gameplay and suchlike - whilst deciding exactly what part to do next.
I've also decided that despite the lack of a savegame transfer, we surely can't let Dink become a complete weakling again. Therefore I've bumped his starting stats up considerably. This has caused more headaches than I first thought it would (balancing difficulty being much harder when stats are high), but it's certainly worthwhile. I've grown tired of seeing Dink hit enemies for 1 or 2 points of damage at a time.
Ho hum.

You could always actually have something done to him that completely drains his stats. At least you'd actually have an explanation for what happened to him for once.
"completely drains his stats"
yeah, metroid prime always manages to do that
I like the idea of starting stronger although that leaves less room for growth :/ On the other hand I'd prefer slower growth to the you-found-yet-another-secret-room-with-10-stat-potions-and-a-gold-heart common in many DMODS.

Yes, I totally agree. Leveling up is worthless in general, which is a shame...
I do like the idea of making a stronger start, as long as there are enough new spells/weapons etc. And a revised level-up system would be nice.

*cough* FB2.5
*cough* FB2.5
A) Yeah, there is a logical explanation as to why Dink has lost his stats/spells/etc. But I've decided not to take it too far. Whilst Dink isn't going to be quite as strong as he was at the end of CC2, he isn't going to be as weak as a lame duck, either.
B) A new levelling up system has been considered. But if I do make any changes, they'll only be minor.
C) I want to play FB2.5.

A new village is (partially) completed, and we'll be seeing the first new party member very soon. Wow. Well, technically, you won't be seeing the new party member, but if we get bogged down in semantics, I'll just get confuddled and never get around to working on the d-mod.
So never mind.

I do like the idea of Dink starting strong with high or medium stats with powerful spells rather than being weakling again. It would be nice and different if you make it like that.
How about an even difficulty rather than a gradually increasing difficulty? Let Dink have the same set of spells and stats(let him learn a few more through the course of the game). Instead have a set of skills. For example we have knight, that blue one who was at Goodheart castle.
In the beginning of the game when Dink has no special abilities or skills, the knight should just have that normal axe attack. Further in the game, that same knight can use spells like fireball or acid rain. Then to counter that Dink can choose between four or five skills when he gains a level. Let's say the player chooses magic resistance providing 60% resistance to direct damage spells and reduces the damage caused by them by 30%. This skill can be further perfected as expert magic resistance which provides 80% protection and so on.
The player has the choice to choose the skills he/she wants. If random skills are chosen then the player would end with a Jack-of-all-trades hero whereas if skills are carefully chosen then Dink can be turned into a specialised one.
This is just my idea for the Dmod. Since you are in the early stages(I hope I am right) you can at least consider it for once if not really use it. This kind of Dmod hasn't benn made before I believe so in a sense it can make CC3 quite unique.

"C) I want to play FB2.5."
a) I should play the previous iterations of CC. I don't generally finish dmods, but basilisk was really good (and moody). I downloaded the first one, but need to get some time to play through it apart from my normal busy schedule and working on FB

Heh, don't expect too much from the first one! CC2 builds on it vastly. The gap between CC2 and CC3 will be nowhere near as big as the difference between CC and CC2. So don't let it put you off trying the sequel.
I also have a problem when it comes to finishing d-mods. I've never even got as far as the Land of Punz in PQ. I just have a short attention span, I guess. I did manage to complete Initiation, but not with a good ending.
But anywho, I'm very much anticipating FB2.5's release. Those screenshots were just luvverly.

yeah, well I figure I will just start with the beginning It will be nice to have a short quest that I might actuallly finish
In PQ I just finished the land of Punz (with help from a guide occasionally) but the next area kept killing me. I found it frustrating that my best weapon was the boots for most of my time with the game (because of the speed boost). I finally found the claw sword but only by looking at the map in WDE

Well, as long as you aren't too hung up on actually finishing it
The first Cloud Castle is mentally difficult in places, even more so than I remembered when I tried it again recently. I toned Nerux in particular down a little with the recent patch (I swear Unholy Power was never that Unholy on my old PC), but I didn't want to change it at its core. It still retains the flawed notion I had when I was balancing it - I thought that anyone who was still playing Dink must be HARDCORE. Silly me.
I like to think I've learned a little about how to make a decent encounter since then. I still think Cloud Castle is a good d-mod though, for some mad reason.
I haven't been helping Sabre on the third one, by the way (last time I tried I stalled its development for about 8 months), but if there's anything he wants help with I'm sure he'll let me know.
Oh, and Dink doesn't get weaker after each module. The monsters just get stronger

We, the Scarab Club 7, promise to wreak havoc.
Does that sound familiar, Sabre?
Does that sound familiar, Sabre?
Yes. I did write that line, y'know.
Anywho, the d-mod is stalling a bit whilst I write my dissertation (read, whilst I play on my X-box), so not much progress has been made. The first new party member is partially implemented.
Not that the party system will be used to the same degree it was in CC2. That was just... stupid. Good, but very, very stupid.
I need coffee.

Sabre, I wonder, do you speak with a british accent?
I've found that I sound totally different to myself than when I hear a recording of my voice. I sound absolutely booming, almost frighteningly so.
Indeed I do, good sir.
Sabre, in the ''Mom thingy'' post, it says that there are 4 posts. There isn't. Did you send a message back to me? If you did, could you, please, write it again?
yay!! CC3's finally coming round(though 2009's pretty far off)But i'm lookng forward to it
C'mon, Sabre! Can you send some more screenshots to us?
This is the first time I'm seeing this, so I must say, looks promising. Hope you go through with it Sabre. I'm looking forward to it.
Play CC 1 & 2 first if you haven't.
Oh, Sabre! Could you aswell tell us about the new party member?
BTW: The screenshot 3 doesn't show anything. Says it doesn't exist.

His name is Phil, and he is a ghost ninja. Or should that be ninja ghost?
Little has happened on this for some time. The main problem being that the d-mod scares the hell out of me. Having to improve on CC2 is no easy task, and one that has had me running scared on more than one occasion.
But the game has to be released one day, so I've been doing a reasonable bit of mapping over the last few days. A nice forest area is about half finished, and will hopefully be completely done in the next week or two.
The thought of releasing a demo of the first village has also been coming to mind. Whilst demos often 'curse' d-mods (so to speak), the reviews of the CC2 demo helped to improve the game no end.
Anyway, I need coffee.

Well, it's great to hear (read?) about CC3 again.
We needs CC3, Sabre. We needs it!
Crazy Chickens 3?
We needs Scenia too, Christiaan! We needs it too!
CC3 is a long ways away from being finished.

If I'm asking very kndly, nicely and super-cooly, may we see some new screenshots..?
awesome
When I look at those screenshots, it the map looks so different, that it doesn't feel like part of the Cloud Castle series.
Still, it sounds super-duper-fantasy-extreme-two-times-that-what-I-just-said cool!!

A year on, and a new PC brings enhanced prospects of finishing this.
Still a helluva long way off, but it's not been forgotten about.

Nice. I get up in the morning and was all, "Dammit, more Necromancy? This thread has got to be ancient... This better be Sabretrout bump... Oh... awesome, carry on then."
Looking foreward to the increased speed towards development lol

I haven't played CC2 but I'm very excited of CC3... Maybe I should play CC2 meanwhile.
Keep struggling, Sabre!

Heh, well I haven't been able to work on CC for a good while now. But having a computer again gives fresh hope! I'll post a more comprehensive update when the time comes.
It'd be nice to hear what your thoughts are on CC2, Marpro. It may even give you a few ideas for use in your own future d-mods. I think you'd like it, and the game certainly lends itself to multiple playthroughs. Heck.... I still find new things each time I play that game.
Seriously. I do.

Bumping the thready by asking pretty much the same question may or may not get you an answer Skull... prefferably we'd all like an answer though.
A trilogy is a trilogy.
I take it that's your way of saying "I'm still working on it".
You can be sure I'll download this one as soon as it's released - it's one of the D-Mods I'm really waiting for. But you already knew that.

Cloud Castle THREE!!
Cloud Castle 2 v1 has been uploaded. I would write up a news post and make it available for download, but I appear to have forgotten my admin log-in.
If another staff member with admin rights could send me a PM with the details, that would be most excellent.
Oh, an upload the file while you're at it.

when are you going to finish the demo
Tomorrow.
HOLY shoot!! DEMO RELEASE TOMORROW!!
Hey, that's the same release date as Necromancer!
Just so you know, "tomorrow" is just one big in-joke at the DN. Color me surprised if it actually does come out tomorrow.

Post another rick roll in my thread and I'll ban you before eating your children.
Wow, that was ducking annoying. I'm just glad I didn't have anything important open in my browser when I clicked that. I second Mr. Troutman's warning and extend it to the rest of the forum.
Dimitri has irreconcilable differences with much of society, and is the first person to join your party in CC3. Dink doesn't like him very much.
That is all.
That is all.
Woah, that's not big news to me since you already told me that about 2 years ago.
OP Updated.
Nice to hear it's not dead though. I remember when this thread was first made thinking "I wish 2009 would come fast" lol. If it would have gone as you had promised, this Mod would be out already.
Q1 2011
Iplaydink, if that message was for me, then read this:
somewhere in 2007 when this thread was created, he promised it sometime early 2009.
Otherwise: Ignore this post.

So, basically, one of the chronic n00bs who hangs out here in the forum will be in CC3.
But which one?
*hyped*
I vote me, because Im the biggest n00b this year.
NAh yer not BadAss enough
Make up your mind MsDink. you always said im badass.
Which I am
Which I am
umm...its not dead ,is it?
Ahh but not ENOUGH Skorn Muhahaha
Krish, how could it be dead if he said few hours ago that it's not dead? Also, I vote for Godley lol.
Yeh, Godley even got his place in a DMOD.
i vote for myself
Demo Release Date: January 20th 2010.
Hmm... Then I have to change 'Three Amulets' release date... (Which was set to the 22nd) This would put my dmod in the shadows (Is that how you say? I meant everyone would focus on the cc3 demo and not notice three amulets among cc3's awesomeness).

Please don't let that be the case here, Sabre.

I'm looking forward a good time tomorrow, Mr. Trout.
Technical difficulties have delayed things somewhat.
I'm going into hiding now.
I'm going into hiding now.
SABRE!!
Do I need to say more?
Do I need to say more?
Perfection takes time, Skull. Blizzard Entertainments games are almost always delayed, but when they're released, you know it was worth the wait!
Edit: And yes, I am comparing SabreTrout to Blizzard Entertainment.

But the difference is, they atleast get released SOMETIME!! Even if it was 5 years later. With Dinkers err... not so much.
Hey does that mean CC3 will be released soon?
Exactly.
I'm still going to wait for it today.
Demo Release Date: January 20th 2010.

Yes, The Secret Level is indeed pretty secret.
- Features -
- A more 'organic' world than seen before in Dink. Possibly - It's a nice idea in theory.
More organic? Literally everything in the original Dink Smallwood is made of dirt, rock or wood. How can you get more 'organic' than that?

May I suggest a thing? Meh... I'll do it anyway.
When you're leveling up, expirience usually reach next level when you are in the middle of fight. So you press ctrl accidently and boost the attack instead of defence for example (at least I do). So if you can make a script that allows you to use those points when you want to... just saying

Now that you mentioned it, that does piss me off too. Should be simple enough to impelemt as well.
That's what I did in Three Amulets, I found it annoying too.
Just giving one extra confirmation dialog should do the trick too.

alright i think this guy is full of crap hes not making cc3 he just doing this to get our hopes upIF HE WAS TRULY MAKING THIS HE WOULD HVE FINSHES AGES AGOOOOOOOOOOOO!! AT LEAT ADMIT IT SABRETROUT
Don't state the obvious.
The demo was - and is - 99% finished. However, the d-mod is not. Nor will it be. I won't even be releasing the demo.
I haven't had the time to commit to CC3 in years, and I was never going to settle for anything less than a mindblowing final part to the trilogy. Unfortunately, ambition being what it is, this has left the d-mod in limbo for some time now.
Apologies, but you'll never see Cloud Castle 3 on the Dink Network. If people are intereseted in seeing the designs we had for the game, I can post them. As anyone who has created a large d-mod will attest to, it's a monumental task and takes a tremendous amount of devotion. If you knew the scope of what was planned then maybe you would understand why it hasn't been finished.
Got to love the pathetic attempt at trolling by Ghost. GOOD WORK.
But, again, for all the true Dinkers out there, I'm sorry to have let you down. I mentally set the bar too high for myself and ended up decapitating myself on it.
;(

I think people here will rather wait for it another two years than never see it. Don't give up!!
Hey, I think we'd all be happy just to have the demo. I'd love to see what you had planned, at least.
I second that, but also see the reasoning for not putting out half finised work Sigh - dangitt
Why should each part of your trilogy try to outdo the one that came last? I don't see that necessary, or even possible, as you know. With a good trilogy, each of its installments has its own role to play, while all parts are united by sharing a common storyline. I could compare it to a piece of music, a three-part symphony for example...
You and Arik started from humble beginnings with the original CC. It set the stage for the coming storm. It was a light adventure, clearly not the centerpiece of this trilogy. Here you established the characters and their goals. CC is the EXPOSITION of this “symphony”.
When you finally completed CC2, you purposely left some things unexplained and open to make way for the final installment. CC2 was huge; something in scope that had never been done before as far as Dink modding is concerned. You did things most of us could never do, and created an immortal adventure. Comparing CC and CC2 in terms of gameplay content and other things simply cannot be done; they are all so different in scope. But they each have their roles with this trilogy. CC2 is the DEVELOPMENT and RECAPITULATION.
What is CC3 to you, then? Or what has it been? Were you simply trying to ambitiously surpass CC2 by making an even larger game because you couldn’t settle for anything else? My suggestion, of course, is to make it a CONCLUSION, tie up the adventure, tie up the loose ends. No need to invent the wheel twice. Not bloody try to outdo CC2, but to use its strengths to your advantage!
Classical symphonies are composed mostly in three movements: FAST-SLOW-FAST. Few pieces of music work when their form is FAST-FAST-FAST, because we’ll get tired of the speed if we cannot get any rest sometime. Many classical pieces run for hours and every second is worth listening to, simply because there is a RHYTHM present that connects the different sections of the piece together. I see the “finished” CC trilogy as this: SLOW-FAST-SLOW, a fine piece of modding art that has a relaxed, short overture leading into a strong centerpiece, leading along into a quiet, conclusive ending...
In short, don’t release the demo. Release the game. Even this “demo” can be the conclusion to the trilogy. It doesn’t have to “outdo” CC2, and even if the demo happens to be something half-assed and not conclusive at all, it won’t invalidate CC2’s merits. It strengthens them.
Bloody long post, this
You and Arik started from humble beginnings with the original CC.

I disagree. Sabre is one of the best modders, and he should try to make something original. Progress, you know... But don't give it up just because it takes a lot of time to finish it. It's worth it. The beauty of CC2 is not in some crazy new graphics or scripts (except for a few that were spectacular), but in map and storyline. So if he wants to make something better than that? He should try no matter how long it takes.
You're all far too kind.
I agree with Synbi. And in fact, I don't even WANT this D-Mod to be better than CC2. CC2 is my favorite D-Mod and I don't want any other D-Mod to top it, be it even a part of the same trilogy, because I feel that it is absolutely perfect. I have never been excited of this D-Mod, because of what gameplay elements it would have, but because of how the story is going to end. Even if it's similar to ABCD..., it will still be one of the best D-Mods out there, because it closes the storyline to the finest game trilogy I have ever seen (however, making it like ABC... is something I would not suggest ). So please, reconsider this D-Mod one more time, Sabre. Show us why you are the one and only SabreTrout. This is a D-Mod many people around have been anxiously awaiting, and many great Dinkers might even leave this network, if this D-Mod is never finished.
I have a confession to make:
I haven't played CC2 to the end.
I haven't played CC2 to the end.
IPD, it is not a good thing for you to live in my neighbor country right now.
I haven't played CC2 to the end.
I haven't done it yet either!
I loved CC1, but I've never played CC2 for more than ~20 minutes... I'll play it someday, Sabre. I promise.

CC2 is the best DMOD created so far, it has both great scripting and storyline. You should play it through, and enjoy the boss fight in the end.
Really sad to hear this. I consider CC2 to be one of my all time favourite DMODs and I was really looking forward to CC3, even if it would have been only half as good as CC2. Having said that, I think most of us already felt deep inside that it was likely not going to be finished. I am sad not to see the demo finished though, I'd really have liked to play it even if the final mod would never be finished.

I really liked CC2, including the boss indeed. Boss mode is a nice idea as well. However, I always make sure I have high stats (especially defense), and so was able to defeat him. In boss mode, though, I can't boost before going there, so (for me at least) it is impossible to defeat him there. In fact, I have trouble with some minor bosses in boss mode as well, which were trivial when I encountered them in the game.
And just an extra voice of support for finishing CC3. It would be real nice to have a finished trilogy. As others have written, it doesn't even have to be large. But the story should be finished. So please reconsider.

Thanks everyone.
I'll backtrack once more and uncancel the d-mod, but I wouldn't get hopeful about anything too imminent. I'm pretty inspired by your kind words, but inspiration is the easy part.

Even Duke Nukem Forever is coming! There is hope for Cloud Castle 3
Hi, I am new to playing Dmods and I really enjoyed CC1 and am still enjoying CC2. I just wanted to voice my support and encouragement for CC3. Please do not feel rushed. I will be more than happy to experience CC3 several years from now.
From what I heard sbretrout's dignity won't let him leave this d-mod incomplete hope who ever said that was right.
Considering Duke Nukem Forever, Necromancer (at least) MUST come out, as it was promised that when DNF was released, it would be too.
On that note, CC3 does indeed have hope...

Ah, ah, ah. See? Here's someone who speaks the truth. Sabretrout, release a DEMO. You've kept up waiting for years on something you're probably lying to us about.
Hmmm... Never noticed it says "canceled" on the top post though. But never mind that, it's still in progress as far as I know.

skull is says Cloud Castle 3: War of the Ancients- CANCELLED
Because it was cancelled and then uncancelled but the first post wasn't updated.
I'm sure it'll appear before Necromancer does
I'm sure it'll appear before Necromancer does
Nah, the title just reads "Cloud Castle 3: War of the Ancients - CANCELLED". Just a change of title, that's all.
Aye... Rather spoilerish of the plot twist now, but it is more logical this way.
I wasn't aware that Call of Duty was challenging. Huh. You sir, are a shooter fanboy.

Today I mapped out a forest area, edited some dialogue, and started designing a major new area for the game.
I also took a few new screenshots I need to upload.

could you upload the screenshots
I will upload screenshots tonight and will probably do a comprehensive update to the OP as well.
I'm starting to worry about needing more than one map file now so I might have to reign in a few things I wanted to do. However, this should work well with the CC2 thing of having lots of stuff to do and find in a relatively small area.
Which is good.
EDIT: Or maybe you'll have to wait longer. I make no promises barring that CC3 will one day be released. BELIEVE.

Predator: Your post makes me think of contract law. A summary for you:
Both people involved in a contract must do something (build a house, teach math, pay money, ...). Usually one person is paying money, but it's also fine to agree that one teaches math and the other brings the kids to school. If a contract doesn't state something to do for both, it isn't valid. You can't make a contract saying "you pay me money and I receive it". Even if I sign that, I don't have to pay.
Now why does your post remind me of this? Because of the fine print. It says that "I will not hit you on the head" is not enough to make it a valid contract. Your "deal" really isn't a deal; it's just him doing something for you. You don't do anything in return.
So how about you stop nagging him, and I will stop nagging you?

Even though your arguments may sound convincing to you, in my experience giving whining people what they whine for will not stop the whining. You may or may not be right that you stop whining in this thread. But then you'll continue elsewhere, most likely another thread. From my experience, it's even quite likely that you'll continue to whine in this thread...

I'm not trying to make you angry, I'm just pointing out what my reaction to your comments is. I wouldn't be surprised if SabreTrout's reaction is similar. And in that case he will not only not be releasing a demo, he might even stop developing at all. And that would be a pity indeed.
I want CC3 as much as you, but saying "I'll keep complaining until you release a demo" is about the worst you can do to reach that goal.
Let the man work. He'll release it what it's ready.

According to my sources SabreTrout has until April 2998 to finish it. (Or was it May? I keep forgetting these things...)
I can confirm it was May.
Does it take place after CC2 or is it a new story which takes place in Cloud castle?

And we can thank you for that, Skorn. After all, you're the reason CC3 won't be coming out. Gotta say, you really play your game well. You've been able to manipulate pretty much everyone on this site.
If I recall correctly, I'm sure Sabre left because of you. Same with Christiaan too. This has been confirmed by people in the chat.
Haha, well. Not if his final PM is of any indication. The staff know about this PM as well, so no use trying to argue. I'm sure if he checks back sometime and notices this post, he will also confirm that he left because of you. Anybody who saw Sabre's final "regular posts", knows this as well.
But I'm not going to argue with you. After all, Sabre did warn me about doing that, as you will only turn people against me, as he said. In his PM he also wished well for Historical Hero, so I doubt he has any problems with me. Isn't that ironic, by the way? That he mentioned Historical Hero 2 in his final PM, another D-Mod which you are trying so hard to prevent from ever being released.
I'm done arguing with you today, and the only reason I even commented on your post, is because it is wrong that you accuse Sabre of "abandoning" us and leaving his project, when you're the primary reason he left. If you had any courage, you would at least link to the thread where you drove him away, instead of his profile.
As for Christiaan, I was having a bad day. But Christiaan had already left way before that, because he was having problems with the entire community.

Absolution is still spitting venom into the wind, I see. As per.
CC3 is the Necromancer of tomorrow. Why don't you all go ask Arik to finish it? No matter how many times to ask Sabre, it's not going to change his decision to quit, especially in the way you're asking.
Why continue to ask then? Perpetual pleas are doing nothing. Make Redneck Dawn and maybe it'll inspire him to put some more work into his. People make dmods when others make dmods. The best part of this game is how it can be both new and nostalgic at the same time. I know when I played Dinkdude95's dmod Enter the Iceland I put work into my dmod. The more people want the community to flourish, the more work people will do for it.
Hilarious. Make Redneck Dawn first. Also, don't just say, "Coming Soon!" if it's screenshots, release them when they come. she dog.
