Crisis of Cara Development Thread
I will be posting progress on my new DMOD here. I've been toying with it a lot lately pondering ideas and mapping. Ihaven't touched the storyline in awhile I've been working away coming up with ideas, scripting for bonuses (possible multiple endings).
So far, I have the 'outline' map of the overworld done. By outline I mean that I have the tiles done except for the detail (rocks and such). I plan on going through each individual screen and detailing them As for a release date, I honestly can't say because dinking is really an on and off thing. So one week I'll be working away, then two weeks I won't be doing anything By the way it looks, it should be quest size. We'll see how things turn out, but with the size of the overworld itself, it will definitely not be a romp.
Screen Shots:
Screenshot 1 - Furnished area of mines.
Screenshot 2 - Part of the intro.
Screenshot 3 - Hoping to make lots of secrets.
DMOD Named:
Well, actually it's had a name for awhile, but I didn't put it up until now for whatever reason. It will be called Crisis of Cara.

Those pictures looks nice, any plans for release?
I do like the screenshots, I'm looking forward to it's release. Still though I've got one question: We finally have a previewcatagory (or something lik that) why do you still post it off-topic...
The screenshots looks great. Can't wait for a release.

Yep, the screens look nice. Good luck with it

I stayed up pretty late last night detailing a lot of the first area and town, not completely complete but I'll come up with another screen shot, maybe.

I saw the first image. It looks detailed and interesting.
But hey, BMP files are not intended to be put on the net. Use PNG or JPG . They are compressed.

Request: I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help out making a new status bar and such. I have the two side bars, but I am in need of the main bar with all the stats (at the bottom) and screenlocked side bars.
Sidebars
Progress: As for my progress, I'm indefinitely finished with detailing the first area, and I'm working on making the screens for the interiors of houses. I've implemented an optional side quest. I won't give it away, I'll just say think of Zelda Aside from the interface, I shall continue working on the houses and I'm making a little gambling game (think of Zelda: A link to the past). It will similar if not exact After all of the housing is done, I'll continue on the quest, scripting npcs as things fall into place. And yes, I am procrastinating by writing all of this

Something like this?
Hehe... That works. I hope it goes along with the font I'm using on the status bar at the bottom... I still only have the words though
Progress: I completed the gambling minigame. It ended up being 4 scripts. Sheesh, way too much work But it works flawlessly now. Aside from that, I made the title screen and tweaked the intro alittle bit. I plan to do more to it when I think of exactly how I want it. I also detailed a couple screens and laid out some floor plans for houses, as well as moving a door and fixing the hardness.

I haven't posted any news in awhile, so people must think I've given up by now but I have indeed made progress, so here's what I've been up to.
I think I am finished with the first area. This is excluding the town since I still have yet to build some characters there. I may also go back and add some other goodies. I've also mapped the first part of the second area, but I have yet to fill in with the details and scipted stuff and enemies.
I've been experimenting with some cool ideas for levels as well that I may incorperate into the game if I can somehow fit it into the storyline. That's all for now.

After hours of scripting and headache, I have finally scripted the first boss (area.) After I balance out the fighting and detail alittle more, I will be done with the first part of the second area.

You can use these status bars. I have made them for my upcoming Dmod.
If you are interested I can email them to you.

Looks cool, but I don't think I want it in my DMOD. Plus, I'm trying to make it sorta 'unique' in its own little ways. I hope you guys like challenges. The darker side of me is determined to make this game so you won't be able to just stroll through it. In other words, I hope you die. At least a couple of times. And maybe you will be rewarded for dying
One of the minigames has required me to modify the Dinfo.c script, so out of habit I'll probably add to it so there are different cutscenes when you die based on how far you are in the story.

I'm almost complete with the second area of my DMOD. I just have to detail the second part and script a few npcs before I can move on to the next area.
It isn't much of a screenshot really, but here's an idea of how big the second area is as of now.

I've made the decision that my DMOD will have an inventory for quest items set aside from the normal inventory. I've scripted a lot of it, yet I still have a minor bug to fix dealing with coordinates, I have future quest items to add, and movement of the cursor based on what items you have to script. In other words, if a slot is empty I want it so that it skips that slot and goes to the next slot that contains an item, and if there aren't any slots that contain an item, the cursor won't appear at all. I made an attempt to freeze all monster sprites and such upon accessing the new inventory, but that work too well so I scrapped the idea and made it so you can only access it on a screen with no enemy sprites. I may give it a shot again in the future. Here is a screenshot of the inventory. The parchment at the bottom will give a brief description of the item (probably just the name), but when you first pull up the menu, it will tell you the controls as in the screenshot. I am trying to comment the script so people will understand it. I know that it's kind of frusterating making a script like this, I was even unsure if I could pull it off. So hopefully future authors can use this script to make their own quest items inventory.
Oh yeah, the cursor is the same one in the main inventory and changes at roughly the same speed. The status bar is visible just as in the main iventory. As you can tell, I am trying to make them similar in the way they function.
Change of plan: I've decided not to do the cursor jumping thing for the sake of its complexity and it'll be similar to ther main inventory since that doesn't jump.

It's been a good while since I've posted any updates, so here it goes. I'm getting bored just working on the story, so I've kinda drifted off into some sidequests that won't even happen until later on. I've got some cool ideas, and I think they will be appealing. If things go as planned, there will be lots of sidequests, and maybe some for after you beat the game. Other things I've been doing include completing the interior of houses, scripting things, making store shop owner scripts, detail other portions of the map, and fixed the intro some more. It kinda starts up with a simple idea, but expands if you know how that goes I was even bored enough to time the intro without skipping any text (without pressing space bar). It lasts about 7 minutes! I know that is more than a little bit long, but I tried to make it at least interesting. And you can skip text through the majority of it. So that's what's up so far. Still no release date or even DMOD size for that matter I'm taking this as a do for fun thing, so it could take a year or so and will be built as big as I feel like it should be.
lol seriously rabid.... its been lets see about four months and 4 days since u posted the first three screenshots.... im gettin bored waitin so HURRY UP IT LOOKS GREAT
I'm getting bored too, I haven't done much to it in awhile.
Just learn to live with the fact that developing substantial DMODs can take a while. I for example haven't released anything in over a year now...
Well, part of the reason is that I've been playing other games My girlfriend bought me DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and I've been playing that, and I've been playing that N Game flash game. Fun stuff, but I'll start working again soon. Notice I say WORK cause that's what it feels like sometimes
Yeah sometimes developing Dmods seems like WORK because even if you are not in the mood of developing, you try to proceed ahead because you think that once you started doing something, you got to finish it.
Hey wofl9 why don't you use my wooden status bar?
Well to dinkme, I'm not to big on doing stuff I'm not in the mood for So that's why I haven't messed with it.
And to the wooden status bar, it looks a little awkward to me. I think I prefer something with words. I may change my mind about having a new status bar altogether. That is probably going to be one of the last things I do though. I should worry about actually forming the game before I try to make it fancy.

lol true... but work? is it really that boring? im tryin to think of a good original theme and name.... i figgerred that developing would be more fun
P.S. Rab, have u got a date in mind that if you dont have it finished we can make dmods with your likeness called strangle the wolf, or what? say thats a good dmod idea id have to make a new animation but who cares lol walk around strangling pillbugs

I've picked it up once again after a long while and hopefully I'll be working on it a good deal now. I moved some things around on the map, added some screens to a part that was originally only going to be one screen, so maybe it'll add a few minutes to the DMOD I may put up a screen-shot of the area when I finish
I know this thread is kinda old. But are you still working on it? Will it be here soon?
Slowly but surely it will be here... Someday I say that because I'm not going to be able to finish it before summer. I also won't be working on it this summer because I am spending it with my girlfriend I'll try to pick up the pace though.
I don't want to seem impatient (I guess I failed), but could you please post a new screenshot or two?
Pardon the bump, but I just wanted to say the screenshots are looking rather nice. Don't rush the release... this d-mod has potential and it would be a shame to waste that.
Lovely stuff.
Lovely stuff.
Lots of those screenshots are just fantastic. Photobucket used to have problems with my PC but I've fixed it and just managed to view those screenies. Absolutely, positively fantastic! Don't give up now rabidwolf. The inventory looks awesome. Keep up the good work.
I've picked up on it quite a bit now (been about 30-45 min every school day and now some at home aswell.) I can't actually play Dink at school but I can map and script so I just save the testing for home As of now (through playing through a bit) I know for sure I have more than an hour worth of gameplay. It's probably up there to about 2 hours by now as I only played through the first boss. Much progress is being made. I am sorry but I do not want to upload any more screen shots. I figure you already get the idea that I'm investing heavy time detailing and making it look pretty I don't want to give away too much. I expect to finish sometime next year if I can keep up the pace
Great! I can't wait until next year. I've been looking so forward to this. Keep up the good work, buddy!
Umm, I could make some status bars for it if ya want.
I would also love to BETA test.
I would also love to BETA test.
don't listen to bg-he made me some status bars and the one at the bottem wasn't correctly alligned (the currently armed weapon and magic didn't fit into his boxes, the healthbar wasn't the right size)
I agree.I make better statusbars! Just check my Wooden Statusbar
Or Mr. Wolf could just use the regular status bars and not something absolutely appalling like most of the custom graphics here...
FB5 I have recently created a template that is 100% correct aligned.
I'll email you one of the status bars I created in the template.
Microsoft Photodraw Only

Hello.
This thread seems to have died.
Is this still going?

Of course it is! If it isn't Rabidwolf knows he will get killed ten times over. So of course it's still going!
Yeah, I know I'm a bit late, but...

Hey, we're not the ones who accepted them, are we?

Well, yes and no. I haven't been working on it lately and I dont have any plans to for the next few weeks. There's still quite a bit to do, but I'm nearing completion of the main plot. It hasn't died, but it's not going anywhere anytime soon
I assume there's going to be someone asking why so I'll just have to answer that in advance. I got Brawl and it's awesome

Why on earth have you posted this here??
But anyway: select a sprite, hold Z or X and use the arrow keys.

Yes, do tell...
Yes, do tell...
I know I've been asking a lot this question, but I'm just so dang bored because no new D-Mods are arriving.
How's it going with this D-Mod?
How's it going with this D-Mod?
Really? Deleted and all? Should I remove it from the upcoming D-Mods list?
Please tell me you're working on another D-Mod. You're one of the best developers here but you've never released a D-Mod. That's a dang shame, man!

Not deleted, just no plans on working on it anymore. And no DMODs or anything else planned for the near future. I have zero interest in Dink these past months. Maybe I'll start developing again in the future, but I don't really have the patience for any big projects atm.
