Well, I was just skipping mindlessly through some videos from E3 that have been uploaded by a certain gaming website (or series of websites) when I came across our absent king Tal in the comments section. He's been there since 2006. He loves them more than he loves us.

That is all. It's not particularly interesting... I'm just tired and bored and thought I would share.

Tal is the king of DN

Tal is an old timer, who kinda turned into the joke of TDN. Everybody picked on him on small things and he was usually (before our new pollmaster, Metatarasal) in one way or another, included as a joke in polls etc. Well, the Webmaster, our former king, Redink1, gave Tal the king's status. After that, Tal hasn't really been seen that much. Everybody sorta thinks he's a douche now as far as I know.

Ghosts = Guests (like I'm right now, not logged in) or banned people.
Peasants = Regular Dinkers just like you and me.
Bards = Lowest form of staff members.
Nobles = Higher staff members than Bards.
King = The King.
The Webmaster hasn't got a ranking. He just is.

Also, may I add that I think the new staff thinks too much of themselves and their powers (except for Sparrowhawk).

He is, like many others, a DN legend who has simply moved on to different things. There's nothing wrong with that. The only shame is that nobody was made King once he left, leaving the site pretty static.

And believe me, quite a many people around here think he's kinda douche for leaving TDN when he's supposed to be the King. Although, it has quieted down. If it was still a 1½ years back, people would get annoyed for even mentioning his name.

Such an annoying and freaking common problem here. The minority are always talking nonsense or are ducking brutalized around here if they just say things the way they see them.

Most long time members of the site will know that Tal was a decent and well liked guy. At least, I'd hope so. To tell new members otherwise is extremely unfair.

And at what point did I say Tal was NOT a decent guy? I just reported what I've heard people talk about him. Besides, we all know he was always the Dinker who everybody made jokes about.

Not really. Most of the current Dinkers haven't seen the glory days of The Dink Network. The last great year I remember in TDN was 2004, and obviously, I missed that year almost completely. >_>

I'm glad scratcher and SabreTrout said something, because your first comments about Tal confused me because they didn't match my impression. And your argument with ST after that clarified what you meant, so that was helpful too. It's good to hear other points of view to get a better picture of things.

This is exactly why the king rank should be passed on again. It's confusing for new members and is honestly just not very representative.

Tal was probably one of the most respected Dinkers on the site. Sabre speaks the truth: what you say about people's opinions about Tal simply is nonsense.

Was being the keyword here. Don't try to say that you don't feel the slightest disappointment in him getting the crown and then completely forgetting TDN. In fact, call it nonsense, but there are Dinkers even on this thread that say we should get a new king and that Tal isn't doing a very good job as being a king. Such as Kyle and Skorn. Which proves what I said is not nonsense.

And I'm not saying he wasn't/isn't respected, but you can't deny he was the joke of the community. Half of the quotes are some sort of a joke about him.

I can certainly understand people being disappointed, but that doesn't mean they think Tal is a "douche". And you seem to misinterpret the Tal jokes. That's an ancient running gag, not a way to laugh at him.

Did I say you were laughing at him? No. If my posts came out that way, it's not what I meant. I know Tal didn't care about people joking about him. He even joked about himself sometimes.

And the word "douche" is something that a certain "changed person" used of Tal once, so when I say some people think he's one, it really proves that they think of him that way.

Nobles have been around for longer. That seems to be the main difference these days. Originally the bards were junior staff and nobles were senior staff with the nobles having larger roles.

There are two ways: learn the lute, become more noble or kidnap redink1 and hold him for a ransom (latter option may have unexpected results)

I imagine Sabre probably saw me posting on Joystiq, which I have spent entirely too much time posting weak humor to. I even considered applying for a weekend position when they published a call for editors recently, though I passed. Sadly, even after around 2700 comments to their site, I have never felt integrated into their community in a way that compares to what I have (or had) here - in about five years I think I have acquainted myself with two fellow visitors to the site, and not in person.

I cannot, for the most part, effectively justify my frequent, long-term disappearances from the Dink Network - I am simply falling victim to the awkward, inefficient, confusing lifestyle I have established for myself.
