Download of the Year Awards 2009
After a full year of Recent Release Rumbles, the time has come to decide which D-Mod and which non D-Mod file are the absolute best of the bunch. As you probably know, the two D-Mods and two non D-Mod files with the highest amount of votes of each RRR have qualified for this DOTY. For the same old rules, check out the previous RRR.

DinkC Reference Book
Dink Smallwood Mug

Dink Smallwood Boxer Shorts
Headless Duck Magnet
Pretty cool prizes, I reckon!
So, dear Dinkers, please vote now for your favorite D-Mod and favorite non D-Mod file, and please, make sure you have tried all the entries!

I'll be thinking about this one!
All entries are great!
EDIT:
Ok, done thinking , D-Mod vote goes for Day of the Carcass, non D-Mod goes to Chickens.
Why?
Day Of The Carcass have some unique gameplay and clever scripting, just what I love!
Chickens! is a great idea, with smart scripting and awesome graphics, read my review for details.

Because of it's clever scripting.

Truly a great file for beginners.
All in all, whoever wins, they sure as hell have got some awesome prices coming for them!

LOL, only the D-Mods that are listed are eligible to vote for Toast.
Chickens eat ducks' heads; At least, they will with its next update I hope So, it gets my Non-Dmod vote.
Day of the Carcass gets my Dmod vote. Why? Because of the new game-style, with the two characters roaming each screen and fighting with their own unique style. And because I like killing spiders.
@Yeoldetoast:
Your Dmod vote does not qualify for three reasons.
1: Its obviously a joke-vote.
2: Its not on the list,
3: nor was it released IN 2009.
So it doesnt even qualify for the '09 DotYA anyway.

I just can't vote Day of the Carcass because the dang thing crashes everytime the intro ends.

I'm guessing that's because you're using freedink. That would mean that the problem lies with freedink not with Day of the Carcass.

And why is he using Freedink? Because he has Linux, and Linux fails.

I didn't have to pay a dime for any of the software on my computer. And since it works relatively as well as super-expensive Windows.

My votes goes to Introduction to DMOD making, because it has really helped me alot. And my DMOD vote goes to Chores, cuz I enjoyed playing it.
Guys, stop arguing offtopic. Want to discuss this, do it in an offtopic thread. No need to respond to this either.
I must point out that I didn't actually make the original graphics for Chickens, as I say in the readme they are from Reiner's Tilesets and I just edited them somewhat to fit into a D-Mod.
And I'll vote soon, some good stuff here

The winners not only get eternal fame
DOTY does not bring you fame, really... I don't even remember someone winning a DOTY before. And there have been lots of DOTYs...
The prizes are fairly good for a Dink nerd maybe (if there is someone), but sincerely, aren't these the remnants of past failed contests and merchandises?
If some of you should win a prize, it must be a real prize, not that.
And sorry if I am rough.

No, they were created this month with lots of thought and work put into them. We never had any prices for any of the DOTYs before, but we decided it would be cool to have them now and in total they have costed us over $150.
But I guess they're not real prizes like generic crap such as videogames or money...

The prizes are awesome! And we all are Dink-fans, aren't we?
Those are far better than "real" prizes, we've already got money and video games...
But not a Dink Clock!

ok my votes go to:
Day of the carcas(i loved th unique gameplay the pnly thing not for me was i suck with bows in dink but it still is my fave from the list)

Sure you are being sarcastic...
Over US$150? Really?
Let me see the prizes again...
No, I don't get it. ...Unless these are made of gold. And new?
"Dead Dragon Carcass Wall Clock", "Dead Dragon Carcass Mouse Pad" sounds to me like the failed Dead Dragon Cascass contest. Prizes from there.
"DinkC Reference Book", "Dink Smallwood Mug", "Dink Smallwood Boxer Shorts" sounds to me like a Dink Smallwood store that existed some time ago, to fund the site, but did not sell anything, if I remember. Prizes from there.
So what is new (and expensive)??
And as always, sorry if I am rough.

We have 2 of each, most prizes are about $11 a piece.
But really, why should I even respond to this. Complaining about prizes you'll never win is one thing, but calling me a liar... I'd cut it out if I were you.

I don't know about rough, but definitely grumpy. Very grumpy. =)
What were you expecting, other than neat Dink-themed trinkets? Personally I would be delighted to get any of these prizes, besides, it's an added bonus, not something the contestants were expecting to get. Complaining about this is like finding 20€ on the ground, and getting mad because it's not 100€.

First, I did not called you liar.
Second, to find money on the ground is one thing, very different to making a DMod and winning a contest. Are you telling the DMod developers that it cost nothing the effort of them to do their DMods?
And not expected? It was announced and pretty good advertized months ago.
And Christiaan, is that you don't accept criticism maybe.

The winners getting a prize was never announced, nor did any of the contestants expect to win a prize. No one would have any reason to complain if there were no prizes at all. Can you see how this makes complaining that the prizes aren't good enough pretty ridiculous, not to mention insulting towards the one who is giving them out?
This is barely relevant to the competition itself, anyhow. If you have a lot more to say, please start a new thread rather than posting in here.

You don't make dmods to win prizes! That would just be stupid, if you want prizes you should do something else like some kind of sport. You make dmods because it's fun to do and because you enjoy to see people enjoy your mod. The prizes are just a nice bonus.
End of discussion.
End of discussion.
Making a D-Mod is fun. Making a D-Mod that people like is an honour. Winning the DotY would be an even greater honour. Winning the DotY AND win a neat price to forever remind me of my glory would blow my mind completely!
I was pleasantly surprised with the prizes. Having one of those would probably motivate me to make even better D-Mods whenever I look at one.
Thanks for going through the trouble of making those prizes Christiaan and whoever was involved.

Wow, another fight. At least I'm not involved in this one.
Also Drink, it's D-Mod, not DMod.

Yes, it was a fight. No such things as "small discussions".
I apologize for going off-topic, please resume voting guys!
An Introduction to D-Mod Making and... hmm.
Hard choice but I think I'll go for the one that gave the most fun - The Quest for Not Quite as Lame.
Perhaps not the best mapped or scripted or the most innovative etc but, yep, the most fun

I tell you Scratcher that it was announced; Prizes, but not what prizes, sadly.

Sure that is the reason to have good prizes. To motivate. That is my point.

I vote An introduction to DMOD making and Day of the Carcass
An introduction to DMOD making, I think, has done so much for the community to bounce back into an active one after over a year of dink dying a bit. It's the best tutorial there is, and many new authors are using it I'm sure.
Day of the Carcass is extremely innovative and proves we haven't seen all DinkC can do by a longshot.

I did learn scripting by "An introduction to DMOD making" and I agree that it's totally awesome... But It's not like "Chickens!"
2 days left to vote people. And we could use a couple of more votes, too!
Thanks guys Remind me someday Marpro, I owe you one
/me pushes the DDC into the oven there will be a FEAST tonight. One MIA returned now to find Pill and Magic and suck them back in as well.. Welcome back Schnapps )
Nice to see you again Schnapper! The Dink Network wasn't the same without you. *gives a wet kiss on schnapper's cheek*
Hey schapper , where were you off to?
Wouldn't it be so much more exciting if we had to PM a staff member to vote instead of voting on an open thread - and there was no updates to how many votes a file had - argggg the suspense ...
Way off topic, but I just want to say a big "Thanks" to all you guys for being, just you. Skull, Marpro, MsDink, iplaydink, Christiaan (wipes cheek), Quiztis - thanks guys.
This may not be the time or the place but Thankyou and praise to the DDC. I think it's appropriate to hail the great contributions of last year, and sacrifice many ducks that the Ancients may give us a year even better then the last.
Guys, it's 2010 - let's give it our best!

D-Mod: Day of the Carcass
I voted for The Quest for not Quite as Lame before but I did that because I really did enjoy it and because it didn't have any votes at the time. If I wasn't the creator of Day of the Carcass I would vote for Day of the Carcass because I just love to see new kinds of gameplay in a D-Mod. I'm getting a bit tired of the same old stuff you see.
Non D-Mod: An introduction to DMOD making
It's been difficult to choose between Chickens! and An introduction to DMOD making. I chose An introduction to DMOD making because it's a much bigger part of development than Chickens! is. Chickens! is awesome and put together nicely but you can still make a good D-Mod without it. If you're new to D-Mod making An introduction to DMOD making simply helps a lot!

I thought you were not supposed to be able to vote for your own D-Mod.
I checked the rules and I couldn't find anything about voting on your own files. If I didn't check properly please point out where such a thing is mentioned.
You're right, but it doesn't seem very nice. Oh well...
Luckily my vote doesn't seem to be making a difference right now else I would probably feel slightly bad about it. Honestly I still like Day of the Carcass best, which is quite logical actually since I gave it all the elements I love about a D-Mod. Still I don't see the other D-Mods doing a better job than Day of the Carcass except for Chores and The Quest for Not Quite as Lame which I thought were funnier than Day of the Carcass and of course Day of the Carcass is just a demo. Infinidink did have some new stuff which I really liked but I couldn't help but feel frustrated while playing it since you have to wait quite often for monsters to appear and the MP points seemed useless to me. (I much prefer my mana bar.)
Voting for your own file is, ofcourse, allowed. Sure, some people may find it lame, but if uou really think your own file is the best, why not vote for it?
Members of a political party surely vote for themselves as well, right?

Okay, I'm going for

I'm going to vote for TQFNQAL, on the same basis as Sparrow - it was easily the funniest dmod released this year. Bonus points for one of the most terrible abbreviations in Dink history. I'll reserve my Day of the Carcass vote for the full version.
On the dev front, I'll vote for the Introduction to Dmod Making. It's objectively the best out of these, the only one grand enough to win the DOTY. Having a new thorough dmodding tutorial is really great, as the last one is probably over a decade old and somewhat outdated. Minus points for encouraging people to use WDE. Stupid WDE.

Drum Roll....
Yup, voting has now ended. The official results will be made public next week.
Though, I knew who the winner would be before this voting even started.
I like MsDink's idea, can't we do something like that on next RRR?

For the first two RRRs, we had a system where members could choose to vote publicly, or privately by messaging a staff member. Almost everyone chose to vote publicly, and I have the feeling less people would vote if it would require to PM a staff member.
We might try it for the next RRR if a large majority wants it, of course.

Because then it'd be super easy to cheat
How? Isn't the voters username in the database after the voting?
How? Isn't the voters username in the database after the voting?
Nope. Anyone can vote in a poll, even if you don't have an account.
For example, it would be possible for one person to vote from his own computer, from the computer of his friends, his parents, his university, etc.

But it would be fair as it would show the intensity of the person's support for that choice, people who half-heartedly support won't do that.

And neither will honest people.
Actually, multiple votes will probably just benefit people voting for their own files.

What if it's for their own file? If one of my files would have won if Erwin hadn't cheated by voting for his own file multiple times (didn't really happen), I would rip off his tail and beat him senseless with it before feasting upon his soul and searching his body for the prize he picked. Just sayin'.
