the thing that changed all OUR lives
how did you get the game dink? my story:my brother bought a polish game magazine with a free CD with game demo versions. And on that CD was: " pelna versia [full version] DINK SMALLWOOD." but I didn't pay much attencion to that... then after few days I saw that my brother was playing some game.I loocked
at the screen and I saw that there were a lot of headless ducks running around and splashing blood everywhere
.And then I sayd:WOW that's cool [or something like that...].Then last summer I wanted to get some NEW ADVENTURES FOR DINK [that's hoew I called it] and then
I found TDN. And the rest is history....
what's you're story?
P.S.-if it wasn't for dink, sharp and phoenix, alli and tal wouldn't be together
!And ALL of our lives would be totaly diffrent....

My story is very boring... no bloody beheaded ducks attracted me, just boredom
or stubborness... I think that I was supposed to study to some exam and, naturaly, did everything possible instead of learning, I stumbled across dink at a free softwares site, I was looking for a good FREE graphics editing program (I'm still looking today
) and happend to spot dink... I am not a hugh RPG fan, but I happen to love fantasy things, so I gave it a try.
I don't think I liked it all that much, I thought the storyline was awfuly lame... but I got hooked

I was a Cnet Download.com addict. Oh yes, the Star Wars demos, little freeware games, shareware things... I've stumbled on a great many little jewels that way, like Dweep and Gazillionaire... anyways. I was searching the RPG freeware thinger and saw "Dink Smallwood". Cnet described it as "a Zelda-like RPG."
Zelda! I thought. An alarm went off in my head. I was a Zelda nerd back then, too, you see, having played the original game dozens of times. So I downloaded it. This was in the middle of 7th grade... about three years ago exactly.
And I was hooked.
I never bothered joining a community until about a year ago, though.

I played the demo of the game at a friends house back in '97. But I didn't think much of it, and so I sorta forgot all about it. Until I one day in '99 noticed it again on a front cover; "FULL VERSION OF DINK SMALLWOOD". So I bought it. And played the game through.. And I found it to be highly amusing and fun. This was all before I had an internet connection. After having completed the game, I read through the files and saw something here about the possibility to make my own game.. Yay, I thought. So I made some small, worthless dmods. Then I got tired with the game. Until I got an internet connection. Then I remembered Dink again, and wanted to see if other people had made games. This was sometime back in September 2000. So I went to RTSoft.com/dink, and looked around. Found some games. Then I went through the links, and eventually stumbled over TDN. And I joined. I could say the rest is history... but RustedSorrow has a point.. Sharp and I would not be, if it had not been for Seth A. R., TDN, and our common interest in Dink. And you bet I appreciate what this community has done to my life, indirectly that is. Yup, my life would definately not have been the same without Dink.

So in Croatia we have a computer magazine called "Hacker". And it includes a CD with shareware, games and so so i found the "FULL VERSION OF DINK SMALLWOOD" then...i played the game then i "found" this dink edit i found these potion and houses and i wanted them to appear in the game so i putted them there and nothing! Only dumb sprites with no hardness. So my bro read those texts from the game and found out about these "mini" quests called "D-mods" so we went on the RTsoft webpage and found there links the skeleton and so on...A good story, huh?

Ditto for me...same story as allikitten, I forget when I joined up though. I do recall sending an email to Dukie at one time, when I got stuck on *Prophecy of the Ancients*, to which he sent a reply.

I had a cd with demos and such. And I installed / played them all, and when I started Dink I was impressed, and I bought Dink Smallwood for F15 ( E7,5 $7,5 ) in the store.
YES!gambler! a big yellow CD?
and BTW it has over 100 Dmods and
I'm still so stupid for downloading

this CD has original dink and 100 dmods {or more} but you have to install them
Got some kind of a demo cd from my cousin to borrow, cause I had to install netscape for some reason.. already forgot why, but that's why i borrowed the cd. And then i started browsing through the contents, and there were a couple of games, most of them demos, but DS was a full version. I installed it and started playing and thought it was great.. I found the community, they didn't hate me. That was so darn important for me, I didn't much have friends at school back then, so I clung to this and got very much stuck (3 years and I'm still here!) At some point I read through all the text files therein and started making sucky little dmods.
Then I foun
And met Phoenix, and so on, you all know.

I played Dink's demo sometime back in 98 or something, i did like the demo as I am a diehard RPG fan. But Dink was not fre that time, and i completely forgot about it. Then one day somewhere in 2000 or 2001 i was really bugged and surfing random sites, when I came across a site offering Dink full version for download. Well, I downloaded the game and after completing it i visited rtsot.com, I think we had a message board there also that time for dink. I couldnt find any Dmods for download there... so I asked for the site that had Dmods for download, and Tal directed me to the Dink network. And that's how I got here. My nickname was DinkBigwood then, but I changed it to AS when I rejoined the community a few days back, coz i thought DinkBigwood was kidish.
Well, that's my story

Yeah, that nick made me roll my eye's whenever I saw it.
Well, I first discovered dink quite soon after it became freeware. I stayed around for a little while, but times changed, and I left. I then came back about 1/2 year after this, and I was addicted again, and have been here ever since, checking in at least once a week, usually 3-4 times a day. Not, I'm not adicted at all...

First, I bought an issue of PC Gamer with a demo in it during the summer of 1998. Soon after I bought it. and then my computer sucked, so i sold it. I got a new computer late last year and with it I downloaded the free version of dink smallwood.

Same with me. I am always on the lookout to see what games can be downloaded and stumbled across Dink Smallwood. I usually don´t care for RPGs but this game was like a drug to me. It´s still one of the games I play most!!

Like theprophet, I bought Dink Smallwood's full version for 15 Dutch guilders (about $7.5) as I was searching for cheap, fun games. I also bought Bureau 13 back then, about five years ago. Later I got a full version of dink, the mystery island dmod and dink's front end on a demo cdrom that came with a computer magazine. (So now I have two)
I have to correct the price I -- or rather my girlfriend, also a Dink addict -- payed for Dink. It was about 2.50 or 3.00 Dutch guilders, which is less than $1.5 or 1.5 euros. Best deal ever.

Did I mention that when I first played Dink, I thought it was awfuly chuvinistic... oh well... out of topic...

How'd I get the game... *thinks*
Well, in mid-1998, I played the Dink demo that was included with one of the PC Gamer US discs. I thought it was quite a bit of fun. Alas, I didn't have the net, so I had no way to purchase it.
Then in September 1999... my family got internet access! Yay. So I lurked around gaming sites for a while, reading news and such but avoiding communities. Near the end of that year, though, I discovered Dink and consequently jumped into its small, friendly community. Then the community was surprisingly unfriendly for a year mainly due to my presence.
And yeah, I've been here since then. I've only contemplated leaving once.

it would be interesting to know how the leader of the bunch-redink1 got dink
