Here's the story, I've been working on my DMOD at school. Feom there I can do everything except run the actual game. So I can script and map, but I always have to wait until I get home to actually test what I have done. It gets really annoying. Needless to say, I wish our schools computers had Dink

I wanted to know if I can (possible, not permission) install Dink on my flashdrive (or whatever you call it) and run it on the school's computer.

There is one more catch though. On my computer at home, the flaashdrive is identified as the K drive or something like that, and at school it is identified as the E drive. I don't know if that would affect anything or not, but the E drive on my compter is the cd/dvd drive.

Last resort would be installing it on the school's computers and I want to avoid that as it may lead to consequences

it will work fine. and the change in drive name would not affect anything.
just copy(dont bother with installation) the folder containing the dink game from your comp to the removable storage.

you go to school. and i use to think that you were atleast as old as me.

in my days i wouldn't dare such a thing.

We tried that once. We got busted! Thing is though, when you run Dink off a memory stick or whatever, it runs real slow. And I mean real slow!

Use a pen drive and it runs as if on the hard disk.
And no feed back from rabid??

Thanks for the info I'll give it a try soon. It's not a problem for me as our computer teacher doesn't mind. It's a programing class and some of what I'm doing is basically programming I'm sure the administrators wouldn't like it too much but they are all knuckleheads

BTW it's not like it's hurting anything right? I tend to stray away from the nonsensical BS rules. The teacher has already seen me mapping and he was ok with it, and since he is a programmer himself he'll understand the importance of testing and debugging my scripting

You'll get very slow speeds if either the USB drive or the computer is not USB 2. (This problem usually resides with the PC).

Heh heh, our administrator (We've only got one I'm still in grade 7) and he's heaps cool! He let us install this little animation program on the school PCs. You make anims with stickfigs. It's so cool!

heh, sounds like my old programming teacher. He was always butting heads with the rather clueless administration. Though, last I heard, he did something that pushed things too far and was "persuaded" into retiring.

It's too bad. He may have been too eccentric for most kids, but I thought he was a good teacher, really.

Well I tried and it doesn't work. I can open DinkEdit fine, but when I try to run the game it shuts off after the splash screen. I cant run DFArc at all because I can't run the main game first.

I object
Did you install it on the PC?

It comes with the main game. And it's a fine tool for a lot of tasks, I often use it for specialized tasks.

Are you using a memory stick(mobile related?) or a pen drive?
Try installing(through setup) it on the pen drive.
I will try and see it myself if you can wait 2 weeks.

When you install programs, often the installer will chuck dll files and other stuff into the system folder or the registry of the PC you installed it on, and the program won't run if it can't find them. That's why you can get portable version of programs (eg Firefox) which keep all the files it needs in the same folder. So if Dink doesn't have all the files it needs in its install folder, then it might not run.

I don't know if you are still looking for answer.
But i've successfuly tested both the game and dink edit. It does not install anything in the system folder. So you can safely copy-paste.

I was actually allowed to make a d-mod for my final project when I was my last year of high school (Legend's Tale demo). I also made a d-mod for my English class as another assignment (New Shores: The Maori). I think making students do things they don't want to do as projects is detrimental for the learning process. I sure learned more about programming by doing stuff myself than I did at high school.

Our administrator at school let us put our Dink stuff on the school's PCs. We just compressed it into a .rar file (even smaller than a zip) and extracted it onto the PCs. It works perfectly.
