Hm... OK. It's an OK overview, why not publish this story on FictionPress.net when you're done?

Some people write by the seat of their ass (Meaning they write whatever comes to them with little knowledge of what all will happen), others write with rigid control of a story.
A story is a living, breathing thing, one that grows under your care with the proper care. The best way to write a book is to write what you see in that story, rather than what you want.

That aside, a decent overview.

Not every novel needs to be published... In fact, 95% of all written novels are never published for profit. The majority of those never even show up online after they're rejected by publishers...

Le me never published a single fan fiction for the stuff I write fanfictions for. *sigh*
By the way, you haven't mentioned a main protagonist. Is he or she a leader, a recruit or a cookie carrier?

Really MsDink? Does that mean that a non-native speaker like me could write an English novel and send it to English publishers in the hopes that they'll like it? I consider myself fairly proficient at the English language, but I'm sure some grammar and spelling mistakes would get through without me even knowing about them...

It's actually always been a dream of mine to work on a novel, but I very much dislike my own native language (Dutch) when it comes to books... Whenever I dabbled in writing I did so in English.

Really kyle

That's why they have editors and, as I said, if its a good story they will work with you to finish it more proficiently if that is needed - if they like and want it - so yes. And I am published (many times) so I am not blowing smoke up your backside - I have worked with editors for years, they're willing to help if they see potential - its their job to.

If I wrote a book with intentional spelling mistakes in every sentence, such as "j00 is a n00b" or "dat suxx" the editors would never bother with it, no matter how good the story is.

I'm pretty sure I'm worth atleast SIX goats...
I dont think somthing written by an australian can really be called a "novel".

i think "insane scribblings on a piece of paper by a drunk madman" is a better term.

EDIT:

With the exception of Matthew Reilly of course v.v

They would if it was an intentional use of dialect. Lots of authors purposely write the way their characters would write or speak, even though it's not standard English.

I actually really enjoyed Reginald M. Williams writings - maybe too bogan for some, but he really creates a fascinating picture of Australia out there back then.

If you send a manuscript rife with grammatical errors to a publishing company, your book will not be published. It will be rejected before the story has even got going.

Kyle: Your English is fantastic.

If you're gonna... Write the book and make someone correct your mistakes... Charles Dickens had bad spelling when he was young, I think...

But it may affect your book's reception if the guy who edits it is irresponsible. The third and fourth Splinter Cell novels failed after they got a new author who couldn't spell and whose editors were dead.
