Dink Smallwood HD for iPhone/iPad released
Thanks to everyone who helped test, Dink HD is now live on the App Store!
More info and youtube video here
I'm still mulling over how to sneak DMOD support in, one option that would work with the legal aspects of "no downloading new game stuff" in the App Store is if I packaged some DMOD's with the main game, instead of downloading separately.
Gonna have to think about this angle.. would prefer on the fly downloading, but meh, better than nothing?

Congratulations on the release Hope you get the dmod support in somehow because in my opinion thats whats kept Dink playable for so long. Packaging more into the original like Mystery Island sounds like a great idea... get em hooked and then they will come looking for more
I think packing a few of the best d-mods in with the main game would be a good idea. It might even be worth asking the authors to optimize their d-mods for iDink.
Congratulations, by the way! I'll be sure to plug it for ya.

Yep, totally agree about the DMODs. I will definitely add in Mystery Island.
I'd be more than happy to also add anyone elses DMODs who will let me, but yeah, would have to be changed to make sure it uses only public domain/original music, I think most of them have some issues with midi.
Oh, about sending free unlock codes, if you aren't in the US they don't work - in that case, let me know and include an address to paypal, I'll just send $3 there.

Now you should try to get it on Nintendo's DSiware store (with touch screen interface and possible menu/scaled map for second screen it would be awesome) and you could probably put it on the $2 or free list if they let you. Pretty sweet idea.

Include the Search for Milli Vanilli as well. It is the best.
Amen to Milli Vanilli. Maybe Scar of David? What about ABCDEFG....
I'm not going to leech I'll buy it to support your efforts and I hope you'll continue to improve the PC version as well as the iPhone version^^
Congratulations on the relaunch of a great community game

This is great. Feel free to add my D-Mods, even though most of them are crappy.
The trailer didn't favor Dink (gameplay vise at least) so much though, I must say. But all in all, RTSoft has created epicness yet again.

Grats on releasing it! I'll never consider spending money on anything that's made by Apple so I'll go with the PC version.
Thanks for the support guys. Sales have been a bit slow (sold 70 I think so far) but hoping we get some press and things pick up.
Here is my plan: Next month release an update with Mystery Island and Furball included in the download itself. (MsDink has generously agreed to let me include it)
I won't forget the desktop versions either, and because they share the same code base most fixes/additions will flow over to it as well.
So yeah, basically the only way I can include any DMODs (until Apple decides to get a bit more loose) is if I include them in the main package.
If anybody else is willing to let me do that, as well as switch out any potentially problematic midi files/sounds (MsDink is changing a couple for instance) I would love to include them, basically I would just need you send me the url to the .dmod file and let me know it's ok to use.
If a .dmod has issues with speed, requires the keyboard, or is too violent/sexual or just too buggy or difficult I probably won't be able to include it though unless it's modified.
I'll include full credit and have the readme etc viewable.
If later we can legally offer full DMOD support on iOS, I'll switch it on in a flash.
Skull: Hey, thanks for the offer! What do you think your best dmods are?

Well, I think the scores would pretty much speak better than I, but if I had to pick the best options, I'd say Hotel of the Middle Night, The Day after the Middle Night and Historical Hero.

PQ is sexually tinted and SimonK isn't around to change it xD I don't think it's okay for other people to change another person's d-mod either, so that's a no go
Getting non problematic music/sound/graphics is going to be the biggest hurdle

PQ is the best D-Mod (by score), though. In fact, I don't think there's a D-Mod that doesn't have something sexual in it, more or less. Even the original game. That's just how most Dinkers' minds work.
dirty minds they are
so.....who is making a list of usable midis
i think this can be the one(and only)exception to the "no making a bunch of already available midis and trying to upload them" on the dink netaowrk

The "shadow effects" in my DMOD gets messed up in DinkHD, better include some other DMODs than GoD. Like The Scourger or PQ.
The Scourger! That's certainly an idea for a Dmod to include.
I can look through some of the old Dmods and recommend some files, but that would take some time for me to do and things have been hectic over here even with the aftershocks from the Chch Quake finally dying down.
One Dmod I do think you could find suitable is Infinidink, which is currently undergoing a Scoring bug (SOMEONE ELSE REVIEW IT!)

I'm also going to buy it, you'll need that 3$ someday
Feel free to add "Agatha Smallwoods Will" and/or "Three Amulets", if you want me to make an "iphone version" just e-mail me at linustheboy@hotmail.com.
Well good luck with everything, I'm writing a review for the Swedish App store right now, 5 stars of course! ;D

I've passed the link around most of the main gaming sites I frequent, and I hope other Dinkers are doing the same!
Yep, also did the same on a few other communities I'm part of.
If you're thinking of releasing any other D-Mods with it, I'd say it'd be a good idea to give a few samples in each category - romp, quest and epic.
For romps, aside from the ones already mentioned in this thread (Furball and Agatha Smallwood's Will), Creeping Sands would make a good choice as it's partly "connected" to the original Dink game not to feel too unfamiliar for people who've only just played through the original game.
The Quest for Cheese is definetely a classic for a quest-sized mod, and I Kara Gu compliments the mix well with its "unusual" (in a good way) gameplay.
I had Legend of Tenjin in mind as a great epic for this release, but I wouldn't know how well switching maps would work on iPhone. Other than that, Cast Awakening or Prophecy of the Ancients sounds good I think.

WOW! I always thought this would be a great idea and now it is here! I will download as soon as I fix my Ipod.
Seth can only include D-mods with the author's permission. He can't just slap something in because someone else wants to.
Thanks guys, appreciate all the suggestions. It looks like the November iDink update will add Mystery Island, Furball, and Agatha Smallwood's Will.
Yes, maybe you should have entered the contest too, Marpro.
I'm not jealous, it's just that don't really like non-combat D-Mods. I think it would have been better to include D-Mods that might have had a mix between combat and non-combat gameplay. No offense to MsDink and Iplaydink.
None taken Marpro Just watch ya back *wiggles eyebrows*
Then give Seth permission to include one of yours! The one where you kill your stepfather is always good fun.
I would love to see fall of tahmar in this package! I personally think marpro's romp is a little to short... and not that entertaining (but it is still way better than the average D-Mod around here.)
I will get it when I have enough money ='{
I'm absolutely fine with the inclusion of the scourger as a DMOD. But I do agree that I'm not entirely sure of the status of all the MIDI files, I culled them from various resources, most often the 374 midi pack and striker's ultimate midi pack...
Congratulations.Well u will need to promote it on few sites and of course add few good D-mods.But by my opinion these 5 games should be at iDink version:
1.Pilgrim Quest by Simon Kleabe
2.Stone of balance by Simon Kleabe
3.Cast Awakening part 1:Initiation by Dan Walma
4.Legend of tenjin by Wesley Mcelwee
5.As good as eternity by Tyrsis
P.S you can always e-mail authors of the game for the permission.

Yeah, I agree, would love to be able to add all of those. Will probably wait and get the first three in and see how that works out first before adding any more though.
I would love to see could castle 2 scarab on there that was my favourite d-mod

EvilEarl: No longer giving out freebies, sorry (Went and changed my first post, should have done that earlier)
About DMODS with the iOS version:
I'd like to include more DMODs, especially smaller ones. (I think I'm at around 80 MB now for the full package..) I'm a bit disappointed that I've received very few requests to add more of 'em.
A bit later I'd like to put some work into this department and also add more DMODs to the "recommended/browse" thingie that is in the desktop and android versions.

You have my permission to use my D-Mods for this purpose. I just noticed this forum thread but if you wish you can use the D-Mods. I don't have the time to go through the D-Mods and see whether the music is acceptably licensed though.
I think you're not getting requests because of the copyright issues and because people underestimate the value of their own d-mods
But, I seriously doubt Redink or Simon would mind if you included their respective d-mods. But, they have copyrighted stuff in there of course

I imagine copyright to be the main issue - Most d-mods would need entirely new soundtracks to be released on the iPhone/iPad.

Most d-mods don't have new graphics/sound effects, but 99% of them use copyrighted music.
Ah, to clarify I meant I haven't received many requests by iPhone users saying "add more dmods, lazy developer!" I think only three.
About copyrighted music, yeah, that's a hassle to fix indeed.
Anyway, thanks for offer to let me include your DMODs, Simeon. I'll probably at least add some more to the "recommended list" (non-IOS), makes it easier to download and I *think* doesn't put me in legal hot water as the download isn't coming from my site or included in the game. Most of the 'violations' are just old .midi files anyway.

Well 95% of it is Japanese music which would only put you in danger if you actually lived in Japan so... Oh wait Just kidding though, you're probably completely safe because midis have never been seen as a violation as far as I know (now MP3s is another thing entirely...).
A massive legal case could be just what Dink needs to become the most popular RPG around today, though! I say do whatever the hell you want with the music.
That's true, bad publicity is better than no publicity!
...
I don't really believe that though xD

I'd love to make CC2 available, but I just don't have the time to change the soundtrack.
Feel free to use my upcoming d-mod....when its made in a few months
You should do a poll for the most liked d-mods then add an update adding the d-mods on I would love to see that take this into consideration I am a dink addict I would love it also a much more difficult solution you can make a d-mod development app and can send to the other app I don't know do what u wanna do
There is a annoying bug in Dink Smallwood HD....I am playing Forest of Doom and when i reached to the troll bridge he asks for a number and here's a problem...I can't type a number with a keyboard!
Unfortunately that's not something that can be solved atm. Seth would have to allow a virtual keyboard to be called up for these situations.
Click pause to bring up the pause menu, then tap "Full keyboard". You should be able to enter the numbers now via a pop-up virtual keyboard. (Should work for both Android and iOS versions)
erm...I am talking about PC one. Now i have realized that it's a wrong topic --;
Doh I actually forgot that function was patched in >___<
Sooo, great!
