I'm Alive
Hey I have been kinda disconnected from the world for a little while. I just wanted to check in and say that I am in fact alive, not that anyone cares. My house got 5 feet of water from Katrina (I live a block from the gulf of mexico in southern mississippi). So yeah...
Noooo!! Now no one will contribute to the "funeral for vortex" fund I was gonna raise...

Sucks about the house and such though

He's not dead. Good to see you around.
YAY! Vortex is alive! We were all worried about you!
Holy crap I didnt think that anyone would notice my absence, my absence even cause a few discussions\arguments wow. Thanks guys, yes I am alive and she dogin. Most of my town is relativeley flat, my house was saved...somewhat. No real structural damage to my house just a hella lot of water. I gutted out my house (it is bare studs and floor now) and am living at my grandmothers house. I read some of the posts from the other threads so: Most of the things on the news is false and over exagerated, New Orleans is a stupid CNN hog, FEMA is egually as stupid as New Orleans, insurance companies trump them all in stupidity. Our McDonalds is up so I wont starve ^_^. Things are slowly trying to get back up around here and little by little people are returning. I was not here when it hit, I was in Mobile when it hit (southern tip of Alabama), but I will admit it was pretty hard to look at when I came back the day afterwards. I have been with out internet access/computer/eletricity/phone service/pretty much everything else for a long time. I do have to give props to the ARMY, they have helped a lot around here, not really as peace keepers, but they gave out MRE's water and other various supplies. Everybody is really helping out, people are coming to gether (inspirational music plays in background)but it will still be a long time before life ever goes back to normal round here
I will try to upload some pics of my town later to show off the devestation.

Glad to see your not dead. I have to agree with you, the news has turned into hurricane this, and hurricane that. Yes, Mr. Anchorman, I want to listen to the story about the people that only have running water, and need that power back on for their hair driers. Yep, that's the important stuff right there.
/Still bitter, but now I have no reason to be.

Yeah, I'm happy your alive I was afraid you would die or something... Welcome back friend!
I'm really glad you're ok. Welcome back to TDN!

I'm so relieved...
I guess we cant make fun of his username and the hurricane now though.
Seriously, Vortex I bet if you walk around your area in any area including wilderness you'll find lots of stuff scattered by the storm. I would bet stuff thats hard (like hard money, jewelry, tools, etc.) survived falling and being thrown by the wind. You should go looking around and take some of it...

Or, to use the proper term, go looting, 'cause, you know, it's free.

Vortex
Funny story bout finding weird things...
I have so far found: A bowling ball, a almost full weight set, several ceramic ducks, and another neighbors front porch...all in my backyard.
I will have internet access at my house soon...well not my house per-say, more like the FEMA trailer I have applied for if it ever gets here. I may finally reach my dream of becoming trailer trash ^_^. Anyway for now I only have access the restaurant I work for. My other part time job (I was a teacher at a drama class for kids) was washed away in the havoc.
Things are slowly but surely starting to return to some degree of normalsy around here. Most fast-food joints are opening now and I have applied for all the free stuff I could get (FEMA, MEMA, EcoAssistance, Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc...) It is amazing what they are giving away around here. We are going to throw a party in my gutted out house...a sort of fudge Katrina party.
Rita messed things up around here too. Not as bad as Katrina but it hendered development greatly, places shut down again, power got knocked out again, the bananas spoke of an up-rising, etc...
And to who ever said "need that power back on for their hair driers" *cough*Chrispy*cough* I did not realize how important power is until it was taken away for a two weeks. Funny thing is, I knew the power was out, but out of habit I turned light switched on and off when I entered/exited rooms. Power still goes out around here daily, sometimes for 30 minutes, sometimes for hours on end, but there isnt much we can do about that.
It is still pretty crazy around here though, but little by little people are returning and beginning the long process of rebuilding their lives. My largest concern though now is the casinos in Biloxi, they were the largest source of income for this area and brought people from everwhere. If they dont decide to let the casinos rebuild...this whole area will probably die.
Anyway sorry for the long post, no one will probably read it but oh well

I read it.As for the 'fudge Katrina' party, I say go for it!
I think you could have some fun with a bowling ball and a few ceramic ducks.

Yeah, I can understand a concern about there being no power for refridgeration, and maybe a bit for some lights, but really, halfway though the hurricane, there's this lady on TV blathering about how she can't do up her hair 'cause there's no power, and that they should start fixing it now, blah, blah, blah.
And really, power isn't all that nessesary, as long as you adjust to it. But then again, no power in a city must be quite different from no power on the farm. You can't start a nice big bonfire in your yard in the middle of a city, can you...

No power in the city means looting, and other various crimes throughout the city.
In other news I have recieved my FEMA trailer! It is little more than a 4x4 room but better than what I got now. I am still limited on the places I can access the internet so dont expect to see my beautiful words regularly for quite some time.
Well anyway...

One would think that a certian necromatic influence is sweeping the board with all these thread being raised from the dead.
Hi! I'm new here. I'm sorry about what happened to you and the people out there. My sister and her husband evacuated from their home in Florida to avoid the hurricane...to Texas! where some places got hit too.
Although what happened is no laughing matter, I do find your name, Vortex, ironic...in reference to what has happened.
