Continued development
Hi,
When you read that title, I hope it didn't get misconstrued, I understand how insane I am and that my brain could use some more development, but that is not at all what was intended in that subject line.
I started to make more progress on The Dark Avilan recently, I will also continue making more Let's Plays in about 2 - 3 weeks time, but at the moment TDA is priority 1. There isn't much really that brought about this sudden decision to pump out some progress other than the fact I feel wierd seeing it sit in limbo forever when it's more or less 75% complete. I should probably complete, even if there aren't many people around who actually download and play dmods anymore. Well, not as many as there used to be.
It already has about 8 hours of game play, and that's with me playing through, getting every single optional side quest and secret there is (some secrets lead to a 20 minute task or quest in themselves, so if you skip everything optional it isn't quite that long). Either way, even if you don't see me post very often, know tat I am still developing this, and expect Let's Plays in 2 - 3 weeks, both on DinkSmallwoodPT, and for those who follow it, my main gaming channel
Also, I do have a full time job, so this doesn't mean it will be done in a week or two - I'm aiming for 1 and half - 2 months until I can call for beta testers on the full game.

I eagerly await the chance to try out your latest dmodding efforts!
you can't post ok without having the same avatar.
shouldn't that have been obvious? :c

ok
But really, I'm looking forward to "The Dark Avalon" a lot! The first demo was looking really excellent and I can only imagine it getting better from there. Looking forward to the Let's Play as well. I don't normally watch those, but that's one I don't want to miss.

What does "daed t'nera s'PL eht raeh ot dalg dna ko s'tI" mean?
We've been scraping the bottom for quite while now, really.
under the barrel. under the ground the barrel is on.
The water table ends where the state of this forum begins.

I'm happy about this.
I'm happy about this.
I'm sure I speak for others (as well as myself) when I say that you are not the only one who is happy about more Dmods coming our way.
i may just come out of dmod playing retirement for this one.
Hey striker, how did you do that with the picture?
If you put in the right characters in the right formation in ASCII, you can make a pre-set picture like that appear. Skurn has been trying that before, but we're not suppose to let him know the correct orders to make pictures. If you message Redink or Tal, they might be willing to take another pre-set picture and tell you the code. Everyone gets 1 chance by the way, usually Redink will ask you when he gets on, but most people are saving the chance or are exceptions due to certain reasons.
striker just likes to show off his mod powers. the only other one i know of who put files in a post was redink1 and it was to show off graphs.

I can only imagine the havoc some of you would wreak if you were allowed to post pics >-)
Times where the I forget that the swear filter got turned off for me not withstanding, I try to keep the mod perks for... um... special occasions.

Hey Robj,
Is there any update on this?
How long do you think do you need?
I'm so excited

Whatever happened to "aiming for 1 and half - 2 months until I can call for beta testers on the full game."?
If I may suggest, perhaps you can break your dmod into parts and that way get part 1 out to an adoring fanbase all that much sooner?
Please! We need more dmods.

Ey I was thinking of making a horror dmod. All I have to do is actually start it That will take a while
Ay, I did say that. I did do quite a lot of work on it. However, I moved interstate, which involved an epic road trip of over 5500km. I've been driving for some time. Recently arrived.
I currently do not have a PC, but have ordered the parts and will be assembling my new gaming/video editing machine when they arrive.
More updates after that.

Impressive. I hope you didn't have to do it solo. I did a 3500km drive solo and that was not an experience I'd like to repeat.
Completely unrelated question, but do you still practice the dark arts?
Glad to see you're still going strong. Hope the move goes smoothly!
5500km? That's like, from one side of Australia to the other. Wow.
I am sure I speak for all of us when I say that we appreciate your dedication to your tutorials over the years as well as this coming epic dmod that we are all looking forward to.
Thanks for letting us know you are still working on "The Dark Avilan" and that progress on it continues to march forward. Keep us informed!
Thanks again!

"5500km? That's like, from one side of Australia to the other. Wow."
Yep. Went across country. From Bunbury (a city 2.5 hours south of Perth), to south Western Sydney. Took a detour through Victoria, rather than the direct route, so I could drive the Great Ocean Road.
"Completely unrelated question, but do you still practice the dark arts"
Of course I do!
"Impressive. I hope you didn't have to do it solo. I did a 3500km drive solo and that was not an experience I'd like to repeat"
And nah, I didn't do it on my own, had someone else following me the whole way. The road across the Nullarbor is extremely isolated, nothing out there but dirt, grass and bush for a couple thousand km. One roadhouse every 200-300km to fill up and no mechanical assistance. Had to help one family get going again cause they lost a tyre going 120km/h, luckily no one got hurt. Also had to jump start two other people lol.
It's crazy that people do these trips solo and so unprepared.
I spent $5000+ between my two cars to make sure everything was as risk free as possible, and then fuel costs to get both cars across exceeded $2000. Some of the fuel prices out there in the middle of nowhere reach up to $2.10 per litre.
Not a cheap trip lol.
Just a little insight for anyone ever planning to travel across Australia

I will never complain about fuel prices here in Bris Vegas ever again.
Oh, you're from Brissy eh? Thats a semi-frequent visit place for me, every 6 months or so. Got family there. Well, not actually in Brisbane.. About a 30 minute train ride out.. On the Gold Coast.

Wwwwwow. Well I'm glad you made it, and I'm looking forward to all the great stuff you'll be doing with your new computer! Don't forget to save yourself some money for food.

Guys, I am not putting this off, trust me. I'm actually excited to finish it. My payment for my new PC build got delayed because paypal wanted identification and stuff to prove it was me.. lol. Anyway, paypal is to blame, its been sorted, and my PC should be turning up within 1 week from now. After that, work will commence to complete everything that has previously been put on hold.
what kinda build did you get?
don't say you got a pre-built from some overpriced company, don't say you got a pre-built from some overpriced company, don't say you got a pre-built from some overpriced company,
No, I'm building it myself.
It's not super high end, as I'm not one of these 'PC building enthusiasts' that compete with others. It's what I need to get the job done for my planned projects, at the budget I set.
I might post full specs later, but to summarise it, Intel i7-6800k processor, x99 deluxe-II motherboard, 32gb of ram, nVidia GeFoce GTX 1080 video card.

I'd be laughing with you if my PC wasn't an overpriced piece of shit that isn't even a quarter as good as your PC

Yeh, well, I mean, compared to some builds I've seen by people that go overboard, it's not. It does however absolutely crap all over my previous PC, which was a pre-built piece of crap. That's the reason I lost motivation to do let's plays on both my channels, because it took hours to render 1 let's play part. I'm building this one with these specs to overcome that problem. With much faster rendering, it won't be as tedious of a process, which means more let's plays and tutorials. Also, my previous PC used to actually crash sometimes because it could not handle the complex and lengthy Sony Vegas project files with multiple video tracks, required for some of my videos. Hence the GTX 1080 - those struggles will now be a thing of the past.
Plus I'll be all set for streaming as well!

now thats a noice setup.... I'm jealous...
Very high-end build, but I guess it makes sense for high resolution streaming and video editing+rendering.
Good luck with your projects, Robj.

My PC will be ready to go tomorrow or the day after at the latest!
Proper updates on DSPT and my own Dmod projects will commence by the 10th of March (I need a few days to organise a couple of other things first and get everything set up properly)

Hrm. How far do you think you are from Penrith?
about 50km. Not far. Is that your location of residence?
cool, so you can punch simonk AND robj in the face.
No, but I am also about 50km from there except west instead of south. I assumed you'd be in the Camden area in case I was to organise a half-assed Dink meet.
A Dink Meet sounds cool, even if it is half-assed.
