I'm trying to find a program to be able to open d files in order to read the contents. Can anyone suggest a good editor for d files? Would apreciate it very much.
thanks in advance
I've found dinkC but I can't read the contents of the d files with it.

They're supposed to be unreadable, to counter various things such as cheating, stealing of content, spoiler prevention, ...
However, since about anyone can now implement a console or cheating script into Dink it really doesn't mean much anymore I guess. There used to be a decryptor around, but that was YEARS ago. Not sure what happened to it and I don't have it anymore either.

Phoenix *might* have had a copy, but I doubt it. For some reason, I though you did have a copy Kyle, but meh, I guess you don't.
I have the source-code to the one I made myself. Though since I'm a Linux user, it doesn't do me much good anymore... but honestly, you don't need a .d "decompiler".
Someone here has one, Magicman or Metatarasal I think (someone with an "m" anyway) but he wasn't happy about giving it out.
Yeah, I used to have a copy, but not anymore unfortunately. Same with the .ff decompiler.
There have been a lot of them around. One of those editors that have been released here also had/has one.
Yeah, that's right! I think Someone had one as well.
You do!?!? Can you maybe put it up or something?

I can understand why ppl don't want to share there d files. I only want it to be able to read the story files for pilgrim quest. I'm trying to figure out what is causing the problem with the wind spirit not showing up. tried the pqsource file but it can't find any text containing wind spirit.
maybe someone can help in some way with this. I've already posted under the dmod and ppl are giving me great suggestions but they are not working.
I was thinking that the file is missing but I wont know for sure until i can read the d files one by one to check if it is there.
thanks in advance and for everyones help, you guys are great.

*sigh*If you want to see the Wind spirit just wait untill appears!Anyway no one will share D files cause it'll won't allow others to edit them :]
To open the Pilgrims quest source download the source in Readable format. It's the same as in the story folder, if it isn't in there it isn't in the .d files either...
I have both d2c and ff2bmp converter. Though I don't use them.
Where'd you get them and can we have them? Please?
I had one of my friends make them for me.
I wont share them.
1st tell me what you want the conveter for?

Here's a ff2bmp converter DinkDude95 (it's of course made by SimonK but his page is down now so it's impossible to download this) :

Oh, and Harshit - I'm interested in d2c convertor. Why ? Hmm, many reasons - for example : some dmods have some unfinished paths/elements/etc. that are interesting (like telepathy ring in Basilik Smile.Thank God the story scripts were there in c), knowing the source code is usefull too (I'm just trying to develop a dmod myself so it would be usefull to learn from more scripting-experienced people .

Thanks everyone. And I noticed that in Easy DinkC v1.4 I think it is, (I use it) can view the contents of .ff files.
You know what would be cool? If a DinkC editor like, say, EasyDinkC could just natively open and save .d files. Shouldn't be TOO difficult to do, even though the indentation and comments will turn out differently after saving. (No comments saved with the .d files, not sure if the indentation changes).
@REDIIIX
For that it would be better to ask the dmod author 1st. And if the author has left TDN, then PM me about it and I can convert the files(d2c) and mail the source(.c) to you.

And that undink thing mentioned by Magicumanu- i 2 got my ff2bmp converter from there. But thought against giving the link out.

Comments are saved with the .d files, even the indentation is. The original c2d program can in fact be used to compress any type of data, not just DinkC scripts.
EDIT: Any type of data that doesn't use contain bytes 128-255

Oh, I have also an extractor of FF files. It is dated year 2000 or before, don't remember. It has the same batch process hability that Dinkerspal and Debug Bitmap have. I don't use it now though; My graphic controller has gamma correction (Old story )
Converter of D files? I don't have one. Never have had the necessity to convert them.

Magicman: "The original c2d program can in fact be used to compress any type of data, not just DinkC scripts."
Wait. Only text files can be converted to D files, if I am not wrong. Even some symbols are not allowed. Well, at least by the original program that came with the original free Dink Smallwood version (v1.06?).

You are right. I've edited my previous post to reflect this. Most files that don't use bytes 128-255 are text files (us-ASCII).
I have Phoenix C#'d edition
How come I've never heard of any of these converters!? Doesn't anyone tell me anything!?
Dude, the C to D converter comes with Dink. The others are plain rare.
Though I did think the C to D converter was modified to delete comments... I thought it even said that in an official Dink doc somewhere. Hm, weird.

It comes with Dink? Why haven't I seen it? Does it come with v1.08? It is in the develop folder?
It's called "compile.exe" and it is indeed in the develop folder.
Oh, sorry. I thought he said the D to C converter. I knew of the compil.exe thing. Oops. Sorry.
