Stricken Cords
Just curious what specific scenes/sections of movies, books, songs, or banana peels have affected you the most.
I can think of two instances:
* The missiles attacking the jet in The Incredibles. It just feels so real... I can't really explain it, but I always feel panic when I see that scene, and my eyes usually tear up.
* The ending of Fight Club, where the buildings come crashing down. Everything just feels... alright in the world.

The end of final fantisy 7. Yeah
Monty Pythons' Life of Brian', when Stan wants to be called 'Loretta'.(....you havn't got a womb!, where's the fetus going to gestate? you going to keep it in a box???...)
The movie 'Ghandi' when he advises a Hindu father to raise a muslim orphan - and raise him muslim.
A church minister named Bill who asked that we NOT give money.( He never got rich, but always seemed at peace.)
Einstiens' reminder of the principal of relativity. That all rules must apply equaly to all observers. (He saw it as speed of light equal for everyone. Like the old greeks, I hold that equality to all races, religions, and my children.)

You know what? I can't think of anything specific.
Lion King when the dad dies... just too sad for me... and lets see what else... can't think of anything. Oh I know I cried during the Blair Witch Project, of corse that was just out of the fear that there would be a sequal...
Does stricken mean struck? I guess it must, but you only hear it in certain phrases: "stricken from the record", "stricken with eye-herpes."
As for your question Redink, it amuses me that I don't have any friends close enough that I'd confess to them that I'd been moved by anything. Hooray for the internet.
Last year, I somehow found time to read a lot during the school day, (mostly short stories), and sometimes my legs would get really weak towards the end of some bit of writing. In specific: "Laughing Man," "White Nights,"(probably just because it was the first Dostoevsky I read), and especially "The Metamorphosis." The weird thing is, those stories are so terribly different from each other.
PS: The Incredibles is a very good movie... a bit simplistic, but good kids' movies are. Very much like that Vonnegut story (Harrison Bergeron or whatever.)

The music from the sound of JAWS still freaks me out.
But I think I was most stricken when I was
watching Titanic and the boat was going down.
I saw the people sliding down from the one end
into the water and I couldn't help but shiver
knowing that this really happened.

Hmm. Well, being a female makes you feel touched by every other thing you see or hear, so I'll keep it brief.
Movies: The Lion King, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Brother Bear, Ice Age.. (whatever Disney cartoon, obviously)
Music: Anything pretty and peaceful enough, mostly My Dying Bride though.
Literature: I don't read much these days, but I've always liked The Little Match Girl and The Ugly Duckling.
Also.. Final Fantasy 10.

Great topic Redink1...there are always plenty of "my favorite movie/music/book" threads on any forum, but one that gives specific moments like this thread is new to me. Good idea since it can cover many things.
-Movie: "American Beauty"; The scene where the neighbor boy shows his tape of the plastic bag dancing in the wind. I cryed like crazy...I felt like he was talking about me...
-Games: "Fallout"; The ending when you finally understand the total significance of the title song. Also, the Glow area where a dedicated player can understand and learn a lot about the backstory in the game in the very real way of actually having to discover it for yourself.
"Dink Smallwood"; The first part of that one trilogy where I heard that song I mentioned in another thread of being in a commercial that I never thought I'd hear again. The fact another Dinker liked it and had it blew my mind in many ways.
-Books: "The Dark Tower 1: The Gunslinger"; The whole thing, but mostly the chapter "The Slow Mutants" and the part where Jake says "Go then, there are worlds other than these."
"The Dark Tower 2: The Drawing of the Three"; "...and it is there I will sing there names!"
Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

oh yeah slow mutants that chapter was pretty dang crazy.
Morrowind. I can't really explain it, but the music seems to fit very well in the game.
AHHHHHH!! do not say that word it is dangerous and affects us in the way of the word NI! BE GONE FROM HERE WITH YOUR HURTFUL LANGUAGE!!111
Heh, funny... I just bought Morrowind Game of the Year edition for my brother's birthday. I didn't even think of its dangerous connotations... do I ban myself now?
Err...

If we are going to revolt then we should go ahead and choose a leader... a young... handsome... dazzling man. *cough*vortex*cough* oh whats that you say, Vortex... well if you insist
Viva La Revolution

And of course the new DN will need a Queen... *bats eyelashes*
I don't even know what Morrowind is.
I don't even know what Morrowind is.
The most stricken moment of my life was indeed when I heard Redink1 bought Marrowind and was promptly lynched by his subjects.
This is seriously a great idea keep it up!
Also in the LotR when Frodo and Sam were almost consumed by the lava. I cryed.
Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

1 xor 1? That would be 0...
What is your point?
Oh, and never use #define. Use const short instead.

Why do I always find the good topics only after they've gone offtopic for a week or so...
Anyways, to the point - books almost all the way.
1. The death of Bold the Fox in one of the parts of Animals of the Farthing Wood. I read it when I was 12 and I found it amazing... and I still cry each time I read that chapter. It was really sad and touching, very human, even though it was foxes.
2. The fire in Dink Smallwood. Everyone else tells me it was predictable, anyone would guess Dink's mother dies, but I really really didn't, and I remember staring at the screen eyes wild with astonishment. Couldn't believe it was happening, and then Esther came and blamed me for killing the duck. Again, made me cry. (Not for the second time anymore, though)
3. Description of the 1905 revolution in Trotsky's autobiography. I hadn't known that feeling of ..just feverishly doing things and everything in the city boiling around you could really be conveyed so realistically. He really captured the feeling I guess.
(the bit I mean is somewhere in the middle there)
