The Dink Network

One year ago today, our world changed.

Seth, in an act of benevolence, released the original Dink Smallwood 3ds Max Models. Since then, we've been living in the golden age of Smallwoods, with an outstanding line-up of D-Mods released in such quick succession: Necromancer, Bill & Kill 4: The Glorious Resurrection, Bloop the Fish 3: Never Stop Blooping, Cloud Castle 3: Grasshopper, and Crosslink (Final).

Okay, yes, (almost) none of that is true. The original 3d models were in fact released, but they haven't really revitalized the community. yeoldetoast printed out a physical copy of the church, Skurn made the slayer walk like a person and... that might be about it.

But, drone1400 noticed that the 3d models weren't very easy to find, so now they're listed in the official files page. Thanks drone!

Other than what you've mentioned, there was also TealDink's Retopologized Dink Model

Maybe some 3D artists will see this and bestow upon us some restored dink graphics

Didn't we use these to finally determine, once and for all, whether Ethel has a beard or a scarf?

The only problem is, I've completely forgotten which it was.

Okay, I kmow many will disagree with me, but I need to get this off my chest. Don't you think some of us are a bit unreasonable with Seth? I mean, he released Dink as freeware, and even released the source code later. Yes, he did release the models way later then most wanted, but he did. And he tried to bring Dink to modern platforms, even if Dink HD (especially early on) was quite flawed. Seth might have not done many things that the community expected, but I think he did more then many other developers did.

Oh well, it"s late. I should try to sleep now.

It's really cool to see these objects and environments, which I know so well as tiny flat bmp images, as actual 3D models.

its absolutely ducking mind expanding. and thats on top of me thinking it was a store machine that said "SALE" millions of years ago. the discoveries just kept stacking with that thing

Nah, I totally agree with you. Seth is cool. Especially since he open sourced Dink way way way before foss stuff was cool.

Can someone please, please post a picture of the savebot model here? I'm too lazy to download, extract and display in 3DS Max myself. I don't even have 3DS Max. Would be weird if I did.

can't find any savebot pictures, but i did find a better slayer animation video i did.
