Hrm... I'm currently thinking about moving most of The Dink Network's store off of CafePress and onto Zazzle (which just has shirts and posters, but better quality and more variety). But... CafePress will be offering Books to sell soon.

Well, that got my brain a thinking... would you buy a Book that detailed everything about DinkEdit, WinDinkEdit, and DinkC? CafePress hasn't mentioned the price range at all, and will begin to offer them in early April.

I would have been when I first got turned on to dink. Less so now that I'm comfortable writing dinkc. It would be great for newbies, but one of the neat thing about dink is that it's free. Hard to know. Would first print be a big investment?

I think it would be a good idea if it would include a lot of example scipts. That's what the current documentation is missing.

Ric said, "Would first print be a big investment?"

No investment at all, its a print-on-demand type thing.

joshriot said "well not only that, but you could toss in articles, quotes, and other fun stuff. and we need headless duck bling like right now."

Yeah, articles, quotes, and other fun stuff would be in there. As for the headless duck thing, I can't find anyone who could make such an image. I could just take the 26x34 pixel image and blow it up to be huge, but it would be extremely pixelated, and not very good.

Kyle said, "I think it would be a good idea if it would include a lot of example scipts."

Yeah, example scripts would be included.

RustedSorrow said, "But how about shipping?"

I dunno, probably like other CafePress items. here is more info.

Any fool can use a computer. Many do.
Hmm, the idea is nice but I don't think newbies would buy it. Of course, it could help them but they just got the free game and by the time they're thinking about making their own D-Mod, they've found the free tutorials to do so. I don't think someone who's new would buy a book to make a D-Mod (unless you wanna read about DE/WDE/DinkC everywhere). Example scripts would be useful but would they buy that book just for the example scripts? They can ask here for answers too.

Well, it is a LOT easier to learn something if its in a book as opposed to reading a tutorial from notepad or any other electronic format. And printing a tutorial out on regular paper (looseleaf) is better, but not as good as a regular ol' book.

As it is, there isn't a definative D-Mod tutorial available yet... you have to download a mirad of tutorials that say contradictory things. The book would be definative.

If it really covers all, including examples, I'm interested - though it depends of course what price it'll be.

The book would be definative.

Uhm... why not just make a definative tutorial instead? So you can keep the community free. Why would making it a book all of a sudden make something people have been making since the beginning definate?

That would be cool too, as long as it's definative, but none really is. So perhaps that's why Redink1 thought of a book. But a tut would do too.

I think that binrit is right, like not all Dinker are in the USA so they pay much more!

I've started making a tutorial months ago, it should be finished, DinkC Tutorial & Reference. Includes 2 example scripts every chapter. So it shouldnt be a problem.

that would be pretty sweet, and it would probably be good for newbs and dinkC masters as well, because you could put EVERYTHING in it. like little personal tips and ideas that you wouldnt normally think of. just a thought.
