NYC
im taking a bus to NYC in a couple weeks and im pretty excited about it, who has been there and what did you think?
or, what is the coolest city you have ever been to? i live in DC and its OK other than the fact that someone else gets shot to death every weekend
if you could go to any city, where would you go? i would definitely go to tokyo or moscow
what is the worst city youve ever been to? im from detroit which isnt even a city anymore, just abandoned buildings, but id have to say some of the cities ive been to in ohio when i was growing up were pretty horrible, stinky, bad

I've never wanted to visit Auckland, New Zealand. I'm Canterbury born and bred all the way, so I'll stick to Christchurch.
Though I wouldn't mind visiting San Fransisco (sp may be wrong but meh) since my aunt lives there.

I went to NYC and Niagra falls a few years back for 4th of July. It was fun aside from the fact that I was really sick and felt miserable the whole time. Hoping I can do that trip again in the future.
altoona has a few good things. (mainly the library) and i've been to missouri to visit my great-grandma's grave, but i don''t really know what the worst place i've ever been at is.
ExDeth is a hobbit .... I personally prefer Melbourne to Sydney, but Sydney has some good malls and nice old architecture
I've been to NYC and it was pretty cool. I've never really had a thing for major cities though, unlike my dad, who actually got tears in his eyes when he walked on 5th avenue... (up until today I never really got that...)
Anyway, it was cool, many interesting sights, but I prefer those calm, beautiful places with loads of forests, lakes, mountains etc, like Ireland, Sweden, heck, even Canada
It's probably because the Netherlands is actually one vast city, with LOADS of people and little room to breathe. On top of that, there's not a lot of nature. Just one flat country with not even a hill in it. But it has it's charmes as well.
Worst city I think I've ever been is Cork (Ireland). One old, rusty industrial city, with tall buildings, blackened walls and polluted air. Rest of Ireland is really breathtaking though! Anyone been there?

I was in a cork one time, but some idiot shook the bottle and I went for a ride.
Give me the countryside any day
Manchester is nice... the rest of Britain seems to whinge about it a lot but I like it
A description I heard once, about how to make your very own Manchester at home:
Empty your bin into the shower, turn it on (cold) and stand in it with your clothes on holding a can of Boddingtons.
Amusing but untrue!

missouri is pretty dang close to the worst place ive ever been, lol. probably a nice place to be if youre a stripper/meth-head from what i saw of it
i understand the whole countryside vs city arguement but the U.S. countryside is full of all crazy right wing gun toting hicks and its just not happening, anyone with more than a few inbred braincells lives in the city so thats really the only place to be. now in other countries its probably much different

...or a Dinker? Missouri isn't all bad, and the countryside around where I live is beautiful.

i would rather live in a quiet town surrounded by a peaceful forest. that would be perfect for me.
Wow...okay, to be honest, that's exactly the image I have when I think about the US countryside (Texas, WTF?!) but I always though that was just me being unjustly hateful towards all those crazy right-wing gun toting hicks you seem to have so many of over there...
Not that we're all good left-wing hippy loving people over here (the legal cannabis tends to make people believe we're oh so relaxed)... One total ducking idiot politician called Wilders (and yes, that IS what he looks like) has a bit too many followers if you ask me...

Same for me, though I've never been to Ireland or Sweden... That's why I haven't actually visited many cities. I went to London for a school trip a few years ago, and it was fun. If you count small cities as well my vote for most beautiful town would probably go to Mariánské Lázně. It's absolutely fantastic if you enjoy Jugendstil architecture (like I do...).
The worst city I've been to? That'd probably be something German. They always seem to have a very unpleasant odor... I especially seem to remember the smell in Dresden to be bad though I last visited it more than ten years ago. From the stories I heard about Berlin it's quite bad there as well, though I've never been there.

Uh... You've clearly not visited many places in the Netherlands outside of the Randstad for very long. I grew up close to the Veluwe, and I can tell you it's a great area for cycling. You can't really enjoy it by car, but cycling or walking are great. Try walking through the Kootwijkerzand, it's a really nice trip... They aren't really the vast wildernesses of Canada or Sweden, but they're nice nonetheless.

Yeah, okay, Holland's got some nice sights/areas, like the hunebedden or the Veluwe, but even there you're never really alone. Chances are you are certainly not the only one who thought about taking a hike in the woods, or going to the beach when the weather's nice. And when I want to walk in the woods (you can't call it a real forest...) I prefer to walk there on my own. Or maybe with some friends. Okay, maybe one person may pass with a shaggy dog, but that's it!
German cities do smell indeed. Did you know vast areas of our land (including the Betuwe!) are being extremely polluted by the Ruhrgebied? (though that has more to do with heavy industry than smelly cities )
That town looks really nice! Will go there when I'm in the Czech Republic. Is that where you went to on your holiday?

I wouldn't mind going to Vienna, Melbourne, or Perth (in Oz). They talk funny in the southern states however.
Also krisknox, I live in a small town surrounded by forest, and I wouldn't recommend it.

why not? i'd rather live in a peaceful place rather then a place where the thickest woodgrowth is a line of trees a few houses down.
Ah yes, it can be very busy in the Veluwe. So if you don't like crowded areas you should probably not go in weekends or (even worse) on national holidays. On a normal working day it's good...
And I did not went to the Czech Republic this year. Last time I've been there was 2001 I think. Still I can remember it to be nice back then. I went to France this year, first I went canoeing in the Ardeche and then I went hiking in the Alps, just south of Briançon.
