The Dink Network

How about making a movie about Dink Smallwood using the Dink engine.
If we can make a nice story for the film, good sounds, midis we can actually make up some movie with lots of adventure, talking, fighting, new graphics in all.
If everyone agrees we could actually make a movie. It would be a nice change from the series Dmods and devlopment files. Though it would requre ateam effort. Maybe a group of 5 to 8 people assigned specific work.

It isn't that much work, unless you want to make all new graphics. (In which case I wouldn't know why you'd use the Dink engine)

DMODs are mostly designed and created by just a single person, I believe it's quite possible for someone to create a 'DMOD movie' alone. Check DMOD movie example.

If this is done, don't forget to pop up a save game screen every once in a while, so you can rewatch a scene if you want, or continue watching it later.

Hmm... you would be better off using a different engine for machinima than Dink, preferably something 3d. I would think a Dink movie would get rather boring.

I agree with Striker. It would be boring unless there would be some type of interactivity in it, otherwise, it's not a great idea...Actually, it is a good idea, but no interactivity...no fun...no hope. I forgot what else I was going to say...

It would be boring if it woulb be made in a boring way. It would be boring if only one person works on it. It would have only his ideas. That's why I say, work in a group. The combined ideas of 4-5 people can make the movie enteresting with fun to watch with humor, twists and turns, full of action and interesting and absorbing story.
So what do you all say?

I think that the range of graphical expression in Dink is too small for this to be very enjoyable with the stock graphics. You'd have to use a fair amount of new graphics.

Considering English is very likely not his first language, he does pretty well... which is more than I can say for some people who were born into speaking it and yet remain barely legible.

Oh sorry, I don't usuallly make spelling mistakes but I try to type quickly than I could possibly do and end up with a lot of mistakes.

@Striker: there's a huge difference between speaking a language and being able to write it, let alone being able to write intelligibly and without errors!

That's exactly why Striker was critizing Dinkkiller for critizing Dinkme.

I mean if someone who is native to the language isn't flawless at using it how can he expect someone else to be writing with hardly any mistake. I'm pretty notorious for my mistakes in grammar and spelling in Dutch. And as a result of that I'm not so picky on someone else's spelling. Atleast not if someone tries to write correctly.

Well... the movie... might be fun, but it should have some super-originall ideea. There would be a problem about the dialogs. I usually press space, because I'd get really bored if I'd wait for the line to change by itself. So you should use
say(...);
wait(...);
instead of
say_stop(...);

So you can't skip the boring parts... Interesting...

Seriously, though, dinkme, if you want to make a videogame movie, try a 3d one. Sure, it's more complicated, but you can make something much more like an actual movie, especially with the addition of camera angles and lighting. Google machinima to see what I'm talking about.
