Question: SEGA
I always seem to read how 'SEGA makes some of the best video games.'
Outside of the old-school Sonic games (Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic CD, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles), I can't think of any SEGA games that I've liked. And some have been truly atrocious (Sonic Adventure).
I feel like I'm missing something. What SEGA games do you enjoy?

I remember VirtuaCop2 was made by SEGA. It's one of the first games I ever played.
Star Boy or something like that, for the Megadrive.
Sonic All the way baby
Echo the Dolphin wasn't the best game around, but at the time it had an interesting approach to gameplay, and the graphics were astonishing.
Bare Knuckle (Streets of Rage) and Phantasy Star series pop to mind.
I remember that one. I didn't know Sega made it, though.
Also many claim that their Madden titles are among the best.

Chalk me up as a Streets of Rage fan. Jet Set Radio and Shinobi had their charms too. I'm slightly too young to care about Outrun and Space Harrier in their arcade heyday though, and not hardcore enough to have played Rez, Virtua Fighter, Phantasy Star, Space Channel 5, Panzer Dragoon and the rest of the Saturn/Dreamcast era stuff people swear by.
What Sega games are you particularly thinking of by ones you haven't enjoyed, Redink? They're a pretty disparate company.

Maybe the Madden titles for the Sega platforms were indeed the best, but I think he was inquiring about first-party Sega games.
I've always preferred "Starboy and the Captain of Outerspace!" over the original.
Streets of Rage was pretty good. And I know a few people who swear by the Phantasy Star games. However, I really can't think of anything else done by Sega that I thought was outstanding either.
/generally preferred SNES over Genesis

I seem to gbe confused then. I know Sega currently make some sports game series. Which one is it if it isn't Madden?
There wasn't any SNES or NES games that I liked. I'd never heard of the Final Fantasy games at that stage. Mind you I doubt the three that made it to the US made it here.
Sega made games such as NFL 2K and NFL 2K1 for the Dreamcast... I think they were just referred to as the 2k series or Sega Sports. I may just be confused due to extreme similarities but I think they sold off their sports stuff to Take-Two, and it's now published under 2K Sports. Or something.
I do not claim that any of that is 100% true.

I think you're correct, Mr. Tal. The wikipedia page on Visual Concepts (the developers of NFL 2k and the like) says that the developer was sold by SEGA to Take-Two a couple years ago.
Also, they renamed the sports series from 2k to ESPN.

Besides Super Monkey Ball (egads, how did I forget about that), I can't think of any SEGA games that I've truly enjoyed. Jet Set Radio left me cold, I can't seem to get a start on Shenmue, and all of their new Sonic stuff is horrid.
It just seems odd that SEGA has this wonderful reputation for really good games, when their library seems to only have 'good but flawed' games in it.

So are we mainly talking about the new stuff here? I think there are a lot of people rueing Sega's direction since the Saturn/Dreamcast, although Outrun 2 still has its rabid admirers. Virtua Fighter still pulls in the absolute hardcore. And everyone loves Monkey Ball. And Yakuza's supposed to be highly excellent and out later this year.
Nothing wrong with a good but flawed game, to my mind. Flaws give a game character

You're right Arik! Lets all go play "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ" the D-Mod!

Nah, I'm more interested in quality.

Ah, how could I have forgotten Golden Axe? That game (and its sequel) rocked.
one of the old SEGA genesis games i liked (besides sonic) was Biohazard. Loved the game, never beat it...
Who cares, this topic is (exactly) six months old.
God, I loved Shining Force for Genesis
