The reason for the above title is that I will be online a lot more now that I finally have broadband internet. Meaning I will be online a lot more, meaning that people online will have to put up with me more. I fell sorry fopr everyone online.

Well fast compared to dialup yes, but New Zealand is the only place where less than 512Kbps is considered broadband and I'm using 256Kbps, which isn't really what I'd call fast. Don't get me wrong though, it's a nice step up.

Oh, and thanks for the welcome.

Ouch! Even my dialup wasnt that slow! And I'm in a rural area (and believe that makes a difference in NZ). I got betweem 40.6 and 46.6 (the faster speeds were with a different provider than the slower ones).

Feel sorry for us? I feel sorry for you. Before I got high speed internet, internet was a nice thing with which I could play for a few hours a week. After: can't live without.

Nah I think I can manage without being addicted.
February 16th 2006, 06:45 PM
pq_water.gif
You can resist addictions AND stop your emotions getting in the way?!?!? And you refuse to teach me how?
February 16th 2006, 07:17 PM
dragon.gif
No I never said i can resist addictions. I said it wasn't an addiction for me (I know because this isn't the first time I've had broadband). As for why I won't teach you it's because it can't be taught. It comes with the thinking rationally.
February 16th 2006, 07:35 PM
pq_water.gif
You just said you thought you could manage without being addicted... which I assumed to be the same as you being able to use broadband without getting yourself addicted... all these bad assumptions... tut tut little Ice... The last clause was sarcasm. Again.
Actually Draconic Dink, I've got some advice for you... of the rational variety, of which you seem so fond. If its a comment from me, assume its sarcastic. Safer that way.

EDIT: And is it just me that thinks that stopping your emotions getting in the way as a result of thinking rationally is circular logic? Cause... isn't it hard to think rationally when your feelings get in the way? And is just 'thinking rationally' a given?! Aaargh!

He's going to get so annoyed about that you realise! Oh, and D.Dink... I'm only pointing this out cause you said you know a fair bit about grammar... your reprimands to smyley have had a few grammatical innacuracies... and it bugs me. I'm pedantic, I know, my apologies. But it bugs me. Almost as much as those BLOODY SMILEY THINGS! Stop it or I'll squish you... you awful mispelled non-member thing!

You know, I once asked what might happen if someone decided to upload there D-mod, by posting the binary in text. Now I think I have an idea.

Well before I only had 256Kbps connection... now I have 500Kbps connection and it's so cool to have that extra speed. Pages load so much faster now. This second speed upgrade has got me as happy as the last one did.

Half as in, you are bumping your old topic, but keeping the same topic XP
April 26th 2006, 06:20 PM

Well I wasn't exactly trying to bump it up, so in a way it's only a quarter. The bumping up was simply a side effect of my decision that this post would be a better place to place the news than a new thread.

I've had another speed increase! This time it's free! The first increase was a switch to a different provider. It's costing an extra $10 a month, though. Now that same provider is giving all people on my plan a speed increase to 1Mbps download speed and an extra 2GB on data cap for free! How cool is that!?!

Except that my service provider doesn't put a cap on our connection, I know the feeling. We started out at 768 kbps when we first bought our service, and it has been steadily increased ever since, and now we're up to 2.5 Mbps, but we're still paying the same.

Yeah, well no cap's are a long way off here in NZ.

Yes, concratulations indeed. Or is that congratulations?

Anyway, I hope you'll be happy with it. It should help when downloading a D-Mod by Simon.

EDIT : Ah, magicman edited his post, thus ruining the joke...

As for Simon's dmods... well, I got them when I had dialup. It was a nightmare doing that.

Aye, I remember that. 3 hours or more was common. And if you didn't have some sort of download-resumer, that's really a nightmare.

A recent change in the broadband market of NZ has seen competitors of the incumbant Telco, Telecom NZ, able to provide their own services without wholesaling of Telecom NZ. This has seen them promise to invest $2 billion over the next few years. Maybe then I will be proud of NZ's broadband standing rather than depressed by it. We might just catch up on the rest of the world and not be so far behind everyone else.

ADDITION: Reading on, I see that "over the next few years" means "over the next five years". Still, that's better than things stood before. In fact the third largest ISP in Nz has promised to invest $250 million!
