Man, you guys are kinda rough on the neophytes at times. If you want to get them to stay, you have to treat them with a mixture of disdain and indifference... nobody likes to be yelled at though.
WC, from what I've seen, doesn't yell at people who are totally new. Instead, he reserves his wrath for those who should know better or, well, anyone who pisses him off.
My point is, a noob shows up, sees WC roasting Kory, and realizes that although he doesn't have respect yet, he's better off than some.
This is how forums work. Noobs aren't scared off because they see that trolls recieve the brunt of the forum's rage, but at the same time, they aren't bored because re5pect does not come instantly.
Its like a woman: if she's too loose, no one will want to go out with her, if she's totally unapproachable, no one will want to go out with her.

I wasn't being completely serious with my "loose women" comment, although it does sound like I'm 13 or 70 (I'm 17, of course, and I haven't called a girl slutty in years.) I was oversimplifying for the sake of humor... unfortunately it wasn't funny.
On the other hand, Kat, denying the existence of the double standard doesn't make it go away. Believe me, it does me no favors, and I try not to perpetuate it, but highschool students of both genders seem to try mighty hard to keep it alive.

I've been here for a bit over 2 years (I think) and would consider myself to be one of the boards more active members. I don't think flaming n00b's is the way to go. Heck, I often send "Welcome to the DN" messages to people who have just joined our beloved community.

I simply find it somewhat peculiar that he acts as though he's been here for ages, and takes part in the "n00b-bashing" festivities. Not to say that it is right for me or anyone to degrade and ridicule newcomers, but VD's behavior in particular seems awkward to me. I don't know.. I have a very odd perspective.

The first I was a pillar of the community for two years till it died...due to first and influx of nOOb's that led to the degradation of the site for the forum. When the site went down the nOOb's went and the sites creators decided the forum was a bad idea so when they updated the site they didnt add a link to the forum and it subsequentaly lost member by member till a few remained, me included. It got sad and Ive left...
I had friends there so long it really pained me till I showed up here right as it collapsed. I had played Dink and just knew there had to be an active, dedicated community as Ive found here. Since I came here when my last one ended I still feel like Im vaguely remembered as someone everyone likes and understands. I guess this has led me to act a bit macho and inexplicable at times.

In most forum time, four months is enough to establish a presense. Though I wouldn't consider you to be senior member, you have what I would call "good member" status, which is far better than the "really old n00b who never learns" or the "kind of dim guy who's been around a long time" title held by a few folks around here.
