I feel as though I'm largely responsible for the community withering. I am so very sorry for that.
By now, the struggle should have been over. That's what I had convinced myself, at least. But no. Work continues to elude me, even after 7 months of looking. I remain stuck with the same car I've been "borrowing" for nearly two years now, since I don't have the means to supply myself with one of my own... and it'll likely be many months before I can, even if I'm employed tomorrow. My romantic life is never what I want it to be, and at this point I'm not even sure what it is that I want. I put aside the girl I had seen for a while in favor of someone that makes me smile just as much as she makes me cringe. The thought of having sex induces ecstasy; having sex induces apathy. My interest in school and the field I'm studying has waned for quite some time. The will to accomplish anything, even to write this, is often slim. Having fun or doing anything interesting with my time is paltry to me, which is strange given that I have so much time to do what I please. I do all that I know to do to get what I need, and not much else at the moment.
Perhaps when I have a job again, I'll feel that push, that encouragement I need. And believe me, even if everything else seems inane, I am trying as much as I can to find work. That's been the story for a while. Not much longer, I'm sure. Not much longer...

I'm sorry to hear your life isn't turning out the way you would have liked. It may sound corny, but these are pretty hard times, what with being unable to find a decent job and all.

I created this to lament the perplexing elements of my life and, much more importantly, to convey the correlation between it and the Dink Network slowing to a crawl. (But not to pardon myself...) I wasn't looking to start a pity competition. Thanks, though. That's quite clever.

I know what you mean and i really feel sorry for you. not to mention that they're closing the dink network wich was our sanctuary i would say. but u know if bad things never happened to us, we would never appreciate the good things that do happen.. we wouldn't know what 'good' is without 'bad'. u just hang in there and have faith. if you believe in God, trust that He won't leave you. you just need to hold on. always start afresh; assume nothing ever happened and begin again. maybe this is easier said than done, but its always worth a try. and please MAKE US A NEW DINK NETWORK!! As someone who knows a few Jehovah's witnesses, I can say most of the stuff Phoenix quoted is very well-founded, for example, the mental oppression part. Members are discouraged from being involved with people who don't belong to the faction, even being in the school soccer club or involved in after school activities is shunned at. If your entire circle of friends consists of Jehovah's witnesses and you resign/get kicked out, your old friends won't so much as say hi to you on the street.
As for the reasons of "disfellowshipment", the bad stuff you mention involves things like accepting blood transfusions, living in a relationship without being married, or just openly disagreeing with their interpretation of the bible.

I don't think Phoenix has a problem with the fact that people can be disfellowshipped. The problem is that when people are disfellowshipped or disassociated they are shunned. This leads to an unhealthy amount of pressure to stay within the church for reasons having little to do with God.
