I am new to the Dink Network.
1)What is a patch?
2)Name the frontends of D-MODs&DinkEdit other than windinkeditplus+DFArc.
3)I want to create a speller(a program that stores spells like in inventory but with 16 no. of slots available)by pressing S Key.
Please guide, help me in assigning key...etc.
4)Where can I look for more source codes? And how can I edit the Dink Smallwood,Mystery Island source code?Give me examples&guide me on their usage, editing, creating a D-MOD with them...etc.
Please give answers&walkthroughs.
Thanks.

Oh hey.
Well, patches are like...ummm...well you know patches on old shirts or trousers? Well, they're like that...except they're for D-Mods. Ummm, I don't know anything else.

I object
1) A patch is an update.
2) Here is a list of frontends, though I'd advice sticking to DFArc2.
3)Hmmm... What you're suggesting is editing the inventory, which is very tricky. Good luck, you'll need it.
4)Most DMODs have the source included, for other sources see Here (some of the sources are not for DMODs, look out what you're downloading). The Dink source is included in a zip in the development folder, to edit it (and see the effects in game) delete the contents of the dink/Story folder and then copying the files from the source zip and pasting them into the dink/Story folder.

The dragons (in original Dink Smallwood) on the isle are rather tough, but you can beat them if you have a good sword and maybe a refill potion or two.

I don't think you have to beat the dragons, so if you don't feel like it, try going back and talking with the King.

Love! True love!
The dragons on Joppa Isle? I beat them up with the herb boots. Joppa Isle is more of a secret place, where, if you beat the dragons, you get the throwing axe.

If you're starting out with d-mod making, forget about custom inventory systems (though it does not require altering the existing one, rather replacing it). It's just far too hard for a beginner. I suggest making a short test d-mod where you think of some simple stuff you want to do and then look it up in the original Dink for how it was done.

While we are talking about the new inventory and spells, this gives me an idea. Your "Spell Inventory" could keep track of the spells Dink attains using variable(s) and could be used to put a certain number of spells in Dink's normal magic inventory. This way, you DO have access to all the new spells, BUT only so many at a time. Lets say you made it so you had to go to a certain place (or maybe just a screen with no "living" monsters.) That would create some strategy in that the player has to carefully choose what spells he/she needs to take.

I found that making a new inventory was a lot more simple than I anticipated. For the scripting its basically just a big wait_for_button(); loop with a plethora of IF statements. The concept is kind of simple if you have a little experience in scripting. I made a quest inventory for my DMOD and I could try to walk you through what things do and how it works.
