What's up with the whole Robbery sequence with Ryan? You can find Ryan in the Terris Ale house just after you are first able to enter Terris. You offer to help him, and he'll tell you to meet him just west of there, near Nadine's house. You proceed to break into the locked door and he attempts to pick a safe of some sort. Two guards come and you both are forced to run, he gets caught and your "thanked" for helping to catch the criminal.

Was there supposed to be more to this or what?

Congratulations, almost nobody knows about this and I can't recall it being brought up on the board in several years, if ever. I only found out about it while beta testing the 1.08 patch over and over trying to do everything I could in the game.

Dink Smallwood was supposed to be more fleshed out than it was - another town or two, such as Port Town, a different ending, more enemies and spells, etc. - but time constraints limited the team's endeavors, and while the subject of Ryan the Thief is almost never brought up, I assume this was in fact one of the many things to fall victim to the speedy development.

Oh and Tal (And everyone else), there is still a one bug, that hasn't been fixed (I wonder if anyone has noticed this before). Go to the Edge of The World's village. Then go to the church, and talk to the benches in the corner. Dink will say "Ah, cool and refreshing.", because the benches have got s3-fount script attached to them

Indeed... I've played through the Dink many times and for some reason, only managed to get the Ryan sidequest once. Most people just never run into it even though there's a 50% chance he's in the tavern when you visit.

That's odd, because I seem to remember enduring the pain of examining, punching, and doing any other sort of interaction I could with every object I could find. There's a chance that may have magically slipped in while one of us ("us" being redink1 and me) edited something else on the map, because I seem to remember two or three instances during patch development where something totally normal at first would all of a sudden have a weird script attached to it. DinkEdit/WDE bug? Bugged Dink Smallwood map? I don't know.

I don't think there will be a rush to fix it until redink1 eventually does 1.09, which he also probably isn't in any hurry to do after all the 1.08 labor.

Took a look at the code and it looks like it's randomly controlled. Doesn't seem to give you any second chances either.

Maybe it's just some sort of joke, were any of the programmers named Ryan?

I don't think it's random; I'm pretty sure it happens only when the story variable or some quest variable is at a certain number that it remains at only briefly.

I only ever played dink once and I got this... I just figured it was something that was intended to be a bigger side quest but just got cut.

That's up to Seth and as far as I know he has no intention of expanding the original game.

I'm somewhat surprised there haven't been any serious fan releases that flesh out the original adventure though. It propably just wouldn't feel right, still, I'm surprised no one has tried.

lol, have dink for ages now (and had it installed on almost every OS). I think ryan is in the tavern, when you've started nadina's quest or you just completed it.
