Tis a sad day...

I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to.I guess.
I'm finally having to turn off the ability to see deleted messages. Before, it was okay to see what people had posted, the last foolish post they made at the end of such and such flameware, but now, more and more, I'm seeing stupid posts for the sake of stupid posts.

Frankly, I'm finding it depressing that we have to delete messages in the first place, but certain actions leave the staff no choice.

I'd like to see something like an hour long temporary ban for deleted messages, starting when the person attempts to make a new comment. But, as it's not my place to decide policy, (and hopefully never is) I'm just suggesting this. It's the best thing that I can think of, and hopefully another dinker can think of something better. The current situation is just no good...

-Edit
/by ban, I mean prevented from posting. Just as a sort of reminder that you should post inteligently. Sorry about the mixup.

Probably worth keeping

Forgive me if I have been unpleasant. I feel that it is human nature that people say wierd stuff and have rivialries. Truth be told, some people can go way over the top. Much of what I said, I have meant in good spirits, and if the other Dinkers in general take offense to it, then I edit it... Personally, I think that any sort of messaging ban is prejudice and wrong, but I respect that others may not feel the same way. So I am sorry if I have offended anybody... but honestly, I think that this is sour grapes. If someone posts something offensive, that is one thing, if someone keeps on flaming a person, even after constant warnings, that is another. Really, why does everyone have to be so angry, though? If I wanted to see angry people I would just turn on the news, thank you very much. So, yes, I agree, and yes, I feel that maybe I have been pretty mean, but overall, I think banning people from DN and deleting posts is way overstepping the logical boundaries of staff's power. If they can delete whichever post they deem unworthy, there is little point in even having a message board. Not to be offensive, but I have my fingers crossed in hope that this post will survive the night without being deleted...

True, and I believe there is more then enough room for that on The DinkNetwork. But you should not intend to offend people and post something that irritates people unneccessary. I mean I say some weird things as well sometimes, but that doesn't mean I intend to irritate someone.

if the other Dinkers in general take offense to it, then I edit it

I would say that that's a bad idea, it's better to apologize for what you said. If people have responded to your post and then you edit it, people can get pissed off.

I cannot recall anything you've said that would offend any reasonable person, so you don't have to feel bad about your posts.

I knew there were going to be at least three grammer and spelling errors as soon as I posted that. It's kinda turned into an internet law, that you can't criticize spelling without making a grammer error, and vise versa. Let's just say that I was testing to see what would happen if you criticized entire comments worthiness. It seems the law holds true.

By posting intelligently, I meant that the posts had some substantce, some meaning, had some sort of value. Rather than just posting a smiley which shows your indifference to thw whole topic.

And don't worry about the spelling. I make *lots* of spelling errors, word ommissions and such. I usually go back and edit my posts when I notice them though...

The redink1 thing... well, other people have tried to say things like ReDink, RedInk, etc, etc, and it always leads back to the same disscussion, that it is to be redink1. It would be as if I decided that your name should be vONzeppelIN. You wouldn't like it, and neither does redink. It's tradition.

-Edit.
p.s. Tal was pointing out *my* spelling error

(Meant to post this yesterday, however my primary computer has... issues.)

Try reading the rules page before you go any further here. Specifically: "Try to refrain from using ALL CAPS."

Also, the reason "intelligently" is misspelled in my post is because, to point out the humorous value, I was directly quoting what Chrispy said. It was a quotation. Say it with me now: kwo-tay-shun. Kwo-tay-shun. KWO-TAY-SHUN. Quotation is a very nice thing, and you may find it useful in your future endeavors.

And to Kory: You're the best

Personally, I don't think it a sad day when someone finds out, all by themselves, that there should be some rules underlying civilized behaviour (in this case: posting).

It's good to see a post on the rules of posting, coming from the forum participants. Restores my faith in humanity, for a bit (although I sometimes wonder whether everyone posting is, indeed, a member of the human race )

Well, for me it was saddening as I had some faith that, while those rules can and do exist, they did not have to be enforced.

Daniel, there are clowns.
Really, as I've kind of said before, generally follow these words of Jesus, and you should be okay here.
