Glimpse of the 2
So, I know that I'm probably bugging everyone with this, but I also remember one old thread here that I can't find. In that ancient and forgotten, never to be spoken of again thread, Seth mentioned that the game graphics and story for Dink 2 are completed, and the only thing left to do is to connect all that. I was wondering if we can get a glimpse of 'new' Dink, or some info on the sequel generally. Was it planned to be in another engine? Easy to mod? etc...
I know the sequel will probably come out the day after the Necromancer dmod arrives, and it's probably time wasting to finish it (money-wise), so why just not share some of its content with the Dink squad

how about make it instead since seth is rich.
(though even if he wasn't, make it anyways)

Well, I have a basic design doc but that's about it. It's not even particularly detailed. Aside from a couple of mock-ups and sketches Justin did there definitely isn't any completed artwork for it.
As dmod makers you know how hard it is to get something done even with an engine and mostly existing graphics you can re-use.
Starting from scratch is.. daunting. I think a Dink 2 would require a 100% new engine (3d engine in Unity or something probably) and graphics to meet expectations. So in the end, we're talking about years of work for an entire team to "do it right".

I've been working a lot in Unity lately. I'd definitely be down to help with that if you decide it's something you want to do.
Do you still have the design doc for the first Dink? I'd love to see that.

wow thats amazing i did not know that, hmm a new game engine...

Hmm, I understood (from that ancient post) that the engine, graphics, and story were completed, just needed to be stitched together. But what you say really is a lot of work for something that is not on your mind as a priority at the moment.
Thx for replying.

show us the document so we can sell it on the black market for millions
Yeah, 3D isn't easy, 2D is much much easier, and if you're good enough, you can attract a lot of gamers who are nostalgic for it.
then how about dink 2, 2d, but much
bigger. Talking bout Bethesda scale world. Character customization, updated engine and sprites AND sound. Straight up AAA title

Who is gonna sketch all that hardness?
Who is gonna sketch all that hardness?
Well Im pretty sure you'd place the hardness as you build the world.
i thought if dink hd was fine tuned enough it could expanded with more feature to go for a sequel.
Today graphics is not important in game , its the gameplay have a look at cuphead , a massive sucess yet it uses old style movie graphics

It's not that graphics are a non-issue, it's the aesthetic it invokes. Sure, you can have a game with shitty graphics, but if it's not stylistic suck, then people will hate it. Similarly, a lot of games that are well liked despite having pixel graphics are liked because these graphics have a unified aesthetic. First impressions can make or beak a game, and if your game just looks irredeemably bad, then no matter how good of music you have, or how well-written your storyline is, people won't buy it, let alone play it.
what is wrong with the dink smallwood aesthetic ? i loved it it is one of the reasons why i still play it and some of the dmods here you can see how they have pushed a lot of different techniques.
i loved some of the recent dmods from brassweasel tons of new graphics

Lack of customization is my biggest issue with the game
Lack of customization? If you mean the graphics, check out MS Dink's dmods. Crazy...
make dink 2 in unity. we can scrounge together a diet a-team for the project from our very own cesspool. we got da coders, we got da graphics makers, we got all da stuff.
we just need the document. and it should have terrible voice acting with no care put to filtering out white noise. full-scale old radio voice files.

Hmmm.
Well, I can say that I might count myself as one at least somewhat interested in helping, though a lot would depend on what the project entailed.
But, first I must finish "Before...", my current dmod-under-construction. Progress continues!

We need another badge for 'Skurn resurrected my post'.
Regarding your now almost 4 year old comment, Unity option is near completion.

when simonk was talking about necromancer, he wasn't referring to a dmod.
It would be interesting to know what was the planned story.

You already know the planned story. Dink goes to an island after some random adventures on a boat and there he finds Milli Vanill.
