New D-Mod: Blood Scorpions V 0.95
You might have read about it on the boards and it's true, Simeon's new D-Mod, Blood Scorpions, is out! I just finished it, really entertaining d-mod about Dink defending a desert town. It's well balanced and nicely detailed quest suitable for all ages!
well balanced are you kidding me? i just got to the scorpion palace... its impossible i swear to god! is there something beneath your endless loop that im not getting? *btw, this is probably the greatest quest dmod ive ever played * the idea behind those blood scorpions is not only extremely annoying, buts it sawesome . props to you simeon
I don't even have to promote it myself
Anyway, I'd like to add that you should play this game on a good computer (for the first part of the game) with good midi support (it's just better). And yeah, it should be balanced trav666 - the last thing you want is to have Dink's weapons outmatch the blood scorpions
Have fun!

i might have to start over since im at the castle place and i cant go back to get the rest of the potions i missed, or level up. so basically im screwed
Hmm, what level are you? If you battle all the opposition (not only the screenlock battles), you should be level 5. And of course, you should be able to handle the battles well which requires some skill (for some). Try again, for now - like I said, you don't want Dink's weapons to outmatch the scorpions and a challenge at the end should be fine, right?
I played the game without battling the other foes and then you're level 4. And if you'd ignore all available potions (but there are potions that you must've seen), it really become nasty creepers.
But there isn't any way (that I found) to refill your life once you get to the Scorpion Palace. So if you were unlucky enough to have just a little health and saved the game, you're screwed.
Hmm, that's true. I'll add a full heart in the area in the next version, perhaps more bugs appear these days and I'll make a patch then.
Dammit! A desert themed d-mod before CC2! (not counting TCS)
It seems pretty good, but I'm getting a bit frustrated. No from difficulty or anthing...but I have only been making d-mods for AGES now, so I'm not used to having to figure out where to go!
CC2 and BS actually have quite a bit in common in places. But I'm not having scorpions. I don't like them. Ugh.

how about some camoflauged sand monsters? oh i have an idea... make a character with a sandy texture similiar to the ground, then remove every other pixel to get a transparent look... if done correctly it might be hard to see
ok i just beat the game after added +10 to all stats lol, even then i had there was a lot of resistance, i really think you shouldnt add so many scorpions!
This is a superb D-mod, with a challenging final boss. Well done!
To desertgrl: there *is* music in the game and you may wanna check your speakers as it sounds pretty nice IMHO
Edit: To anyone else: feel free to review!

Dammit, the final boss is pretty similar to one of the bosses we were going to put in Scarab. But with a twist.
We'll still put it in though.

As an unrelated newsfact, we have hit the headlines of RPGPlanet with the Dink Chat statistics and this D-Mod
Woohoo! Good timing by you Simeon! Go for the gold! Woohoo!
Simeon, I'm getting new speakers today. Your game is very good and of course the graphics are awesomely done. I'm going to play it again today as soon as the new speakers are hooked up.
I have one question. Are there any secrets in this game? And, oh yeah, what does IMHO mean?

IMHO = In My Humble Opinion.
And I think Simonk is to thank for most of the graphics. I'm using them in Scarab as well.
But the way Simeon uses them is most impressive. And his puzzle is, as always, nifty as hell.

Redink1, Save the health potion for the last battle. It will save the day. I was down to a teensy weensy little bit of health. Took the potion in the nick of time. Simeon, don't put in a heart yet till you hear back from everyone cuz the game (to me) is balanced as is. If anything, it leaned toward the slightly easy side. If a game challenges you to win points, items, treasure, etc., it's more interesting.
Redink1, Save the health potion for the last battle.
No. The thing is, the game shouldn't expect you to save the healing potion for the final battle. It gives it to you near the middle of the game. It lets you use it any time. If you used the healing potion fighting the first red scorpion, have a sliver of health at the Scorpion Palace, save the game, you're screwed and its completely the game's fault.
Every D-Mod should have either a full-life fountain/healer/etc accessable at any time (not necessarily nearby), or weak pillbugs that leave small hearts in order to get life back. To do otherwise is bad game design.

I agree with Redink here, you should always have a fairly easy way of getting health back. I prefer it to not be simply a fountain or something that replenishes your health time after time, but having weak enemies you can get hearts off is a good idea.
Or a room with a red heart or two. That strikes me as a good option.

That is good logic, redink1. I never thought of it that way. You are right tho I wouldn't call it bad game design. It's more an author choice that might not be fair to the newer or general game players. I prefer a bit of exertion to win the final battle so I can enjoy it more. I didn't mind holding on to the only potion in the game. But I certainly see your point.
Yeah, some of the graphics are from SOB some from Creeping Sands, some from other dmods. Nice to see stuff re-used. And I think the map design is really nice. Could do with more scripting and interaction with some of the objects. But... hmmm this is turning into a review... better finish the DMOD before I do that.
