A virus on my computer
Yep, I got some strange virus on my computer yesterday. Hopefully I'll find out how to solve the problem. If everything else fails, I need to get an outside harddrive and move everything on that (perhaps including the virus). I did manage to get HH2 on an USB memory stick, and it should be fine. However, brace yourself for the worst. The virus may have gotten to the memory stick (which I thought was impossible but apparently it could very well happen) and HH2 could be lost. I do have an older copy of HH2 on another, working PC, but it would mean I have to do a hell of a lot again and it might delay the game for a long, long time.
EDIT: If I disappear for a while, that will also be because of the virus, cause it will block my internet. I believe I could use my PS3 to access the Internet, but it may fail. However, at the moment the virus doesn't seem to block the Internet when I log in as another user. It's the opposite, it's trying to open a site www.police1.howtocureachnescarring. WTF?!

Sorry to hear that. Are you using any anti-virys software? I would recommend Avast or AVG (both are available for free and works good, in my opinion). I would also recommend you to either get an anti-malware or an anti-trojan software (Spybot Search & Destroy is recommended).
(Furthermore; activate your firewall and stop visiting "adult" pages, jk)
Also, you are doing an epic. Have som pride in your work and use BACK UPS regulary for frik sake.

I do have backups. Just not enough apparently. I also have an anti-virus software, but it sucks. I tried installing Avast once, but my anti-virus program won't let me, and removing my anti-virus program would be way too much trouble.

Sounds like it's controlled by the mob or something.

Yeah, well it's not a good one since the virus usually beats the anti-virus program. In fact, I'd rather take an anti-virus program controlled by the mob than my current one.
Viruses will not infect your d-mod files because they are not executables, so that should be safe No need to delete that from your memory stick at all.
I recommend AntiMalwareBytes. A couple of times I've had something nasty that Avast etc has been unable to get rid of or even find, and MalwareBytes has fixed it perfectly.
Does anyone have CCleaner? Is it any good in situations like this?
As for D-Mods, I knew that the virus wouldn't go into the D-Mod files themselves, but apparently the virus can move from the computer to the memory stick itself. I thought it sounded a little strange, but it could be true.

AVG's security package is the way to go.

But is it more trouble than dealing with this virus? It could be worth it to try removing your anti-virus program again after you get the virus taken care of.
Also I recommend using an online backup system if you can afford monthly fees, because the backups happen automatically and you don't have to think about it. I use Jungle Disk. Dropbox can work as a backup too, and you get 2 G free, but you have to put the files in the Dropbox folder on your computer.

In short? Yes.
In short? Yes.
Download and run Malwarebytes. Once you're done and rebooted AND you're still seeing weird issues, download ComboFix and run that as well.
In addition TDSSKiller is another good one to run as it will detect and remove nasty Rootkits.
CCleaner will not help at all, it's not anti virus/malware. It cleans up your computer doing stuff like emptying your temp folders and recycle bin, deleting cookies, removing old registry entries etc... It's a good thing to use in general but not what you need for this.
In short? Yes.
Easy. Reinstall your operating system, and that will get rid of all your problems.

think the command for that is
\format c:\
click yes
say oh shit
there done.

PITYYYYYYYYYYY!!
Hope you get it sorted out mate

If you zip your entire HH2 d-mod folder and upload it to a reliable site online, that should be safe enough Then format that shoot!

Good suggestion. Send it to yourself using gmail, hotmail, whatever you're using... You can download it later.
kyle, you gave me an idea. i could, at least in theory, do that to all the important stuff i have. only problem; will i be able to do it with so little space? i mean, it removed 1 gb in a matter of minutes and it seems its aiming to remove all my space. now i only have 147 mb or so.
Smells like a trojan. My guess is that it is not trying to "remove" your space but is creating its own, very large files to fill up the hard drive. You could try to identify the trojan with a variety of antivirus or software avalable out there. If you don't feel like it, format your hard drive and reinstall OS.
Also, never ever trust free antivirus software.

Firewalls can just never resist a big wooden horse outside their gate. They just have to bring it in.
Yeah. I have heard some stuff from the AVG ones. But I recommend buying a subscription if anything.
Just don't get Norton. It's annoying. My friend collects malware, and from a test he did, G Data caught the most. You could also look at the site AV-Comparatives.
I now have my laptop working again. Desktop still has the virus. Gonna try and fix the desktop next. Personal thanks to my father for helping me fix the laptop! Without him, HH2 would be lost right now.
