I tried installing Avast once, but my anti-virus program won't let me, and removing my anti-virus program would be way too much trouble.
But is it more trouble than dealing with this virus? It could be worth it to try removing your anti-virus program again after you get the virus taken care of.
Also I recommend using an online backup system if you can afford monthly fees, because the backups happen automatically and you don't have to think about it. I use Jungle Disk. Dropbox can work as a backup too, and you get 2 G free, but you have to put the files in the Dropbox folder on your computer.
