Me and Grampybone gonna take a little nap.
I am wondering everyone's favorite beer. and if they could do me the favor of describing it. If you are a mixed drink guy or gal tell me what you like in it.

I actually don't drink anymore. I "got religion". but i miss it. Hence this poll. Today is my 15 month dry spell anniversary. I am not bailing off the wagon i am just wondering.

I prefer a dark beer myself. a Guinness or a New castle something rich and dark. But absolute favorite is a beer made in Novato California by a brewery called Moylan's. They make a dark porter thats surprisingly sweet called a "kilt Lifter". I sadly only know of one pub with this beer on tap. Yes its very potent.

Mixed drink I like my gin and Tonic all the way.

None, I'm allergic to it! Cider is what I like (hard cider to you). I have heard of gluten-free beers but I've never tried them.

I like a nice whisky now and then though.

Now, I don't have a large amount of beer-tasting experience, having only really started trying different brews a few years ago. Right now, I've been working my way through various ales while very rarely trying lagers. Newcastle is one of my fav's, and I think Guiness Stout is very overrated. Though, I hear the actual stuff from Ireland is far superior to the stuff us Americans get from Newfoundland.

Right now, my favorites are Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Fat Tire Amber Ale (which I am absolutely loving). Sierra has somewhat of a fruity aftertaste that I can only describe as "Christmasy". I have no idea how I arrive at that word or why it tastes like that, it just does. Fat Tire is basically described as having a biscuit-like malt flavor, that's just really delicious. FYI, it's much, much better from the bottle than from the tap.

I was also impressed with some Polish beers, Zber and Tsyke (these are very close approximations, it's been a while since I had those and they had funny non-english characters in their name). Sadly, I had them such a long time ago, that I forget what they taste like, I just know they went great with hearty, Eastern European dishes.

As far as mixed drinks go, I usually go with a Vodka Tonic with lemon, a rum and Dr. Pepper, or a Bloody Mary with a lot of kick. I also found that mixing sake with pure apple cider is dang good.

I wouldn't be a part of any religion that forbade drinking or any other form of self-indulgence that's benign in moderation... but then, I wouldn't be part of any religion to begin with.

Redbridge is the only gluten-free beer I've had and just about the only beer I've had, apart from a sip of Busch a few years before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. It's not too bad really, though I don't know that it's available in your part of the world.

I'm a fan of Rickards Red, although I'll take a micro-brew if I can get it.

From what I've seen, Busch is surprisingly hard to come by on the Pacific Coast. It's not quality by any means, but it's probably my favorite of the really cheap beers.

No, but seriously, I don't like the taste of the stuff so I don't drink any beer.

My favorite(s) would have to be Newcastle or Guinness, always on tap; bottles just don't do justice to either one. Packaged I go for Beck's or Fosters (Oil Can only), and mixed I prefer classic medium flavored drinks using premium vodka, rum, or whiskey/brandy/cognac. I also like exceptional liquors straight, like Grey Goose, Grand Marnier, or E&J XO Brandy (very smooth.)

In answer to DinkDude, "Does Pepsi count?", only if mixed with Jack Daniels.

As for Striker's opinion of Busch, life is too short to drink cheap beer bro. Step up to Sam Adams or a microbrew for a good domestic. Oktoberfest and Winter Ale are my favorite Sam Adams varieties.

Oh, and yesterday was my birthday, woohoo (low enthusiasm). I'm not telling my age, you can almost guess it from this post. x|

I'll go with DaVince's answer. I don't care for the taste of beer, so I don't drink it, and well, I don't really touch alcohol in general. I think last time I had anything with alcohol in it was New Years eve 2006.

Obviously, you missed my earlier post. Sam Adams is decent. Not great, but decent.

I have never been able to mix anything with Pepsi that worked that well. I don't do beer that much. I kick it with cheap Bud or Miller if I do drink beer. However I love mixed drinks. My weapon of choice is a simple screwdriver or a bloody mary with some extra lime juice put in, but me and my friends concocted what we call "Happy Juice." Its basically equal parts Everclear, pink lemonade, and blue gatorade. Its quick and easy and does its job. I just got back from mexico (tis why I have been missing as of late) so I played around with some tequila, now thats some shoot. Four shots and I was gone. In my area, moonshine is still pretty widely made. They are all pretty strong, but I tried one that I couldnt even keep down. afterwards pour a cap full into the fire and a giant green flame shot up. We put that bottle away...

To V: " Four shots and I was gone." Silly boy. Rule #1 in Mexico, Don't drink the water. Rule #2, don't eat the worm! LOL. Sounds like you got close to the worm. And why are you drinking tequila when you are 19?
On a side note, I'd like to sample some of that shine. Not much else gets me a buzz these days. Oh yeah, mention this to Kat. I think she is the one with the tag line about out-drinking Americans. Bring it on sister!

Striker-- I did not miss your earlier post, in fact I was of the assumption that you cherished good beer and other drinks after reading it. It was your 2nd post that prompted my comment to you. And even in your first post you made no mention of Sam Adams. I concur on the basic Sam Adams lager, it's just ok. But the seasonal blends I mentioned are very tasty. Can't stand the now-present Summer Ale though. I've had better wheat beers. And I'll stop right here.

He drank tequila because he was in Mexico, and besides, since when have age restrictions have ever stopped teenagers from doing anything?

About Busch, I assumed that you assumed that I actually buy it. I merely drink it when it's around, like when I visit my parents. I'll even take it over Bud, Miller, or Coors. But that's a bit like being the least intellectually offensive comment on a youtube video.

Firstly, the drinking age in Mexico is 18 so i was in the clear there. Secondly, drinking was never really prohibited by my parents as long as I don't drive which is perfectly fine with me. And you are very right striker... telling a teenager not to do something has never served any good.

Nowadays, I've had so many different beers that I can't say that I really have a favorite brew. Locally, I'm a big fan of Elysian's Dragon Tooth Stout, but only when it's on nitro tap. I recently had one called Ommegang Bourbon Barrel Aged Three Philosophers that I liked enough to text a good friend about.

As for mixed drinks, I tend to prefer bloody marys, dirty vodka martinis, manhattans, and mules.
