So I recently heard that isohunt.com was being sued by some
hollywood group for providing links to downloading copyrighted
materials.(or something like that) So naturally I went there and
bookmarked the page.
Now I'm wondering what this 'BitTorrent' is all about and whether
it's worth my time to get it.

Daniel, there are clowns.
BitTorrent will destroy your hard drive and rape your mother... at least that's what the nice folks at the MPAA told me.

MPAA is a bunch of nobodies, they can't do anything.

Yeah, it's one of the more popular programs to get stuff off the internet illeagally. Good for getting series, albums, and stuff like that. Not good for getting single files.

It's also good for getting things legally, such as Linux.

redink1! Don't make me read FAQ pages! That's just cruel!
Actually I googled it before I asked here but I was too lazy to
read the really loooooonnnnggg pages.I wanted short summaries
and opinions.

Since I'm Canadian and I'm allowed to download any music I
can get my grubby little hands on, perhaps I should try this Bit
Torrent thingy.

well bittorrent is a p2p program sutch as ares, and limewire or kazza. the only difference is you have to download a torrent and use a bittorrent downloading program, sutch as bit lord, or bit tornado.

www.torrentspy.com is a site that you can download torrents from but there are alot of others.

its good for downloading movies albums diskographys of well known artists, games, cd images, game patch's, pretty much everything that you can get from any other p2p but just not single songs. it also doesnt download spy ware or adware like other p2p's do (like the ones mentioned above)and generaly downloads come off servers and user's computers which makes download's come through at a high rate. i've gotten over 200kb/s downloading some popular files

I would suggest to use bearshare for downloading music instead of bittorresnts, allthough with bittorrents can you download whole albums. Legal albums of course

Bearshare comes with spyware so I wouldn't recommend it.

If I read this two days earlier, I could have warned my sister not to install that Spyware. Ah well.

Well, i hate torrents as they often have no seeders after some time, it's a waste of time as a 27kb file could take up to an hour to dwonload.

If you want a good Client, download Azureus, the Blue frog is the greatest ^^

I agree. Best choice among the BT clients.

Azureus is bloated with useless features and uses a lot of CPU power. My favourite is an older version of the original BitTorrent (Below 3.4.0 IIRC), but I'm not really sure if that would even work anymore. Arctic Torrent is a good second though.

I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to.I guess.
Is no one else here seen the awsomeness that is utorrent?

Sure, if your connected to >10k peers, and downloading 700kB/s from >400 peers, your cpu will go to shoot. But could you tell me Azureus would be able to handle that at all?

It would be great if everyone here at DN got a
Torrent file of Dink... yay... instantaneous downloads...

I was about to start a new thread, but since this one goes close enough to mine, I'll say it right here:

I was kind of absent from these forums for the past two/three days, that's because my sister was "Torrenting" a file, but not-so-suddenly it completely stopped downloading and the availability went to around 0.189157. Oddly enough, the connection wasn't working (I couldn't visit this site) for these two/three days until time passed enough. What was the cause and how to avoid it?
