Odd Effect of Going to Uni

March 19th 2006, 04:58 PM
dragon.gif
This may sound odd, but since going to university I've actually increased the amount of time I spend working on my dmod. A bit odd hah? I'm now so far progressed that at this rate the first demo will be ready in a month or so. And that demo will be about a quarter of the dmod, so I'm quite happy with my progression so far.

Has anyone else had this odd effect arise from study or am I all alone here?

Ahh, the power of procrastination. When I'm supposed to be studying I get all sorts of random crap done.

Sort of... I get nothing done. Not the stuff that I'm supposed to do, nor the stuff that I'm not supposed to do.

Well, this is what I'll tell you:
Say goodbye to ever getting a hundred percent on anything, ever again. 'Cept maybe linear algebra. Or Statistics. haha

Caffine pills have detrimental effects on your personality over time, it's better to tough out the nights without any caffine or sugar, just lights. Staying in a bright room keeps the zzz's away, and after a while, you start feeling a little giddy. Use the caffine pills the next morning to get through the classes.

Develop a foible. Otherwise you might spontaneously get one, and that could be bad.

Scavengers rights. But then again, I've got a nice collection of little cards saying "In the time I put this card down, someone could have stolen your stuff." I've got like 10 of em. So make sure the stuff is truely abandoned.

Some places at the university don't close: take advantage of this.

A little bit of physical exertion outside can really wake you up.

The colour of your clothing can affect your mood, so I suggest bright colours. It makes you look and feel happier, which is always needed when you've been pulling an all night brain bender.

Alternative electrical/chemical weaponry and acessories are a no-no. They just don't like that stuff. Unless your in a honours degree.

But you still got a year or so until you have to truly worry. But then you have to truly worry. That's when you start meeting the prof's who purpose in life is to make their students lives miserable, and you have a recording of them saying it for proof.

But then again, I'm in dualing in physics and chemistry, so it might go differently for you.

Not really.. I haven't done anything Dink related in a long while so university hasn't done anything for my D-Mod work in progress

First Year is easy.

True

You're trying to scare me?

I'm in the last year of highschool...

Be very afraid It depends on what you're gonna study though.. even though it does surprise me people actually fail the courses that I'm doing/have done (first year).. so I guess whatever course you take, there'll always be someone who doesn't pass it

Say goodbye to ever getting a hundred percent on anything, ever again. 'Cept maybe linear algebra. Or Statistics. haha

That is true.. though my grades (marks?) are higher here than the ones on highschool.. not really that hard though; studying at university is just a trick you have to learn and then there's nothing to it.. the biggest part of la secret is doing the opposite of procrastrination

Chop your own wood, and it will warm you twice.
I have this year of highschool and one more to complete. Here, your schedule depends very much on the university. You can go to a good one if you want to learn something, or you can go to a ghost-one, if you only want a diploma.
For example, the vice-mayour from Deva(a Romanian city), send his driver at the exam for the master degree. And the driver took a 9. And this is not a joke.

I'm doing a prep course at the uni so it ain't so hard. Then I'll be going do a Bachelor of Art Double Major in English and Computer Science, which also won't be quite so hard.

As for your advice: I know most of it already, though thank you anyway. Also I don't drink coffee. And colours have no effect whatsoever on my mood. As for your advice on how to stay up, I've got a better idea: do assignments as soon as you get them rather than leaving them to the last minute. then you don't need to cram it all in at the last minute, thus not staying up late/early. This also results in better grades. I also know about the late hours. Such as access to the Computer Labs 24/7 if you have an access card (or at least at the uni I'm at).

That's very true. Here in NZ Computer Science is extremely easy. My cousin is doing it and he says so far even the 200 level papers are easy.

Also most universities do prep courses that teach you how to do uni study effieciently and what unis expect. These can make uni life a lot easier.

Bleh, some of my friends have to do two exams at the same time. That sucks even more. Double classes are quite common.

How's that? I had to get about 7 signatures just to get permission for what I'm doing now. A fair PITA. The only other person I know that's doing something remotely similar is having just missing the first third of his lab every week.

And how'd they set up your exam schedual? Over here, each class time slot has it's own specific exam time, so if any classes superposition, their exams do as well. Analytic Chem And Fluid Physics. Fun fun.

Mmmm, pizza.
There are existing programs for double majors Math/Physics and Math/CS. The schedule planning is also done by a somewhat-timeslot system. CS is more strict with timeslots than Math and Physics are, but generally, if two classes overlap, so do the exams. But in other cases, even when the classes don't overlap, the exams do. Usually for the Math/Phys people.

My schedual is such that I have two classes at the same time, so I always miss one of them.

When that happens here the lecturers tell you (with good reason) that they aren't sympathetic and to change a paper so their isn't a clash. That sort of thing almost never happens here though. This due to managing it so it's avoided as much as possible.

Though my cousin's timetable claims there is two of the same lecture at the same time in the same lecture room with the same lecturer. What the? That seems a bit odd and perhaps silly if not redundant.
