Upload speed: 308 kbps (38.5 KB/sec)

But fear not, at last my poor old computer will be upgraded at the end of February (this year) to Windows XP

You do know that there's a difference between kilobit per second and kilobyte per second, don't you?

When I checked my modem, it said 1696 / 704 is the max. Well, that's pretty close to the test results...

I'm a convert, and boy is it nice. Althought my old compy had to throttle the downspeed, as the ram couldn't keep up.
On my new computer it's 2510 kbps Download and 662 kbps Upload, what a difference.. 
The best upload speed you can get here is NZ is 128Kbps and the best download speed is 2Mbps, though Telecom will intorduce 3.5Mbps/256Kbps in the near future. They will also be phasing in ADSL2+ over the next few years. What speeds they introduce with this technology is unknown at the moment (they currently cap ADSL speeds even though ADSL can reach speeds of 8Mbps download/1Mpbs upload).
