Does anyone?
Does anyone here at this community find Dink Smallwood Mods, or the real game scary?
It depends on your state of mind, IMHO, at the time you discovered or played the game (the original one). I played it first, years ago, at the time in my life when I desperately wanted to (at the least) strangle and the most eviscerate someone. The blood and gore helped a lot in my catharsis - or should I say, prophylaxis.
My son was 3 or 4 years old at that time, when I discovered him punching away at the monsters. Now that was scary! But I suppose it helped us get over a potentially violent and volatile situation... it helped balanced our responses to reality... and we turned out fine. Simplistic, maybe...but that is our experience with Dink.

I can't find it scary I guess only 3D game will make stuff scary.
I was really scared when windows told me he has recovered after a serious error, after a comuter crush, while playng fiat.
What did you find scary? The fact that windows actually recoverd after a serious error, or that there was a serious error?
Lol, he was scared because Windows for once recovered a serious error? Wow.
Blood & guts can't make a scary dmod IMHO, you need a disturbing storyline. For example, eating children. Or the Manson murders could provide inspiration. It should also have a sort of dark humor to it to rub in the sickening elements (IE cannibal-related puns).
Hasta la grimoire!

Jou just gotta find that happy medium. My machine BSOD on a regualar basis, and I usually only have to kill the lurking applications for it to keep going.
When I first played Dink Smallwood I was realy afraid of the pillbugs. I was below 6 years old back then I think. I could not continue playing Dink because I was afraid. Later I got over my fear by just punching the pibugs into little pieces!
I tried to introduce shock-scares into the sewers of Initiation. I had my brother play it a little bit, and he jumped a mile out of the chair, and punched me in my shoulder.
I had the same thing happen to me when I was young and I was playing the original Dragon Warrior (I) on the NES. The first time I saw the skeleton, I was traumatized. I ended up level to the max on slimes after that... Even so, I don't think any game is ever going to beat Dragon Warrior for sheer shock value, with that startling monster attack sequence...
speaking of dragonwarrior, i liked the way that when you leveled up you didn't have to choose the stats. and getting spells from leveling up was also good. i'd like to see this kind of leveling up in a dmod. it takes a lot of stress off of the player knowing that he won't screw up the stats and have to start all over. in dragonwarrior, going through the caves hardly being able to see anything gave this eerie feeling. and when i put on the cursed belt i freaked out. great game...
What I liked most about Dragon Warrior was the bumping noise it made when you bumped into a wall. If you burned out your last torch, you could still find your way back out of a cave.
The big stone guy going to sleep when you played the flute? Now that was scary.

Yeah, I thought the sewers had lots of atmosphere and were well done... 2D rpg atmosphere that kinda matched what I felt when I first played Doom
HALF-LIFE 2 is a scary game Can't find Dink scary though, it's too retro!
I never find games or movies scary since I know it's not real. Hell, little scares me that [i]is</i? real.
