The (semi)annual What-music-do-you-like post.
So, people tell me what kind of music is good, or sounds good to you. I've just listened to Nightwash and Wilco and several others, courtesy of pandora.

Well, I like all kinds of music. But my favourite artist is Frank Zappa and my favourite band is Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I told you, I like all kinds of music...

I enjoy most music, but I prefer anything strongly instrumental with less words and more music.
By genre I guess you could say I like Classic Rock the most, with some modern rock, techno, and I just cant hear enough Celtic music.
...and uh...Enya.

STOP LAUGHING AT ME!

The Vault Dweller
I like to listen to Metal, Rock and punk, I could be more specific, but I am very lazy.
My favourite music genre is definitely metal, heavy and power. The so called 'death' metal seems to me just rubbish, screaming and hiting guitars...
However, I also like most music, except POP (I like some old POP, like the Beatles though), Hiphop, RAP (the discusting ear RAPe), techno and trance. My fav genres is metal, punk and classical.
Favourite metal group at the moment have to be Stratovarius. And the punk group is Asian Kung-Fu Generation, closely followed by Toshiro Masuda, with it's punk/Japanese-tradisional mixup.
Gaming music is great too. Especially Jeremy Soule, the music for all my favourite RPGs (except Dink) is made by him, including Guild Wars, Morrowind (Soon also Oblivion), Boulder's Gate: Dark Alliance, Never Winter Nights...
Norwegian folk music is ok, but the British folk music is great! Nothing beats a fast playing violin with a smooth flute in the background, perhaps with drums playing fast, but light.. Japanese folk music is ear candy, I just can't get enough of it, just like tea...
Some rock is nice too. I like R.E.M, Great Big Sea and some other bands. Not much more to say on this front.
Some movie music is good.. It depends on what movie it is. Lately I've fallen in love with music from Passion of the Christ, and Lord of the Rings music has always had room in my heart. The Matrix music is the only techno (if it is techno) music that has been worth listening too, but that might be because it's the Matrix...
Conclusion: Everything is good, but POP, Hiphop, RAP, techno and trance is not.

I of course love Modest mouse, the pixies, old green day (none of their new stuff), warren zevon is one of my big influences. I also love Cake. and my cousin's band, the Madhats, is a good progressive timeshifting band (themadhats.com is up, download "Big Pete" if you ever have time). Rolling Stones, the Who, Ben folds, the cure, tom petty, sweatband (a local band), etc. So mostly I'm into indie, classic rock, and alternative. I don't like pop or rap, and I like some hard rock/metal. Occasionally I'll listen to some trip-hop, but never hip-hop. Although I don't listen to it at all, I love to play blues and gospel on guitar.
I like all kinds of music but I'm in love with Sum 41 right now.
I also like Enya.*hides behind the rock of shame with Vaultdweller*

I agree with AmoebaLord, Green Day Was much better before the American Idiot album came out.
I like any and all music for the most part, if it has a beat I will listen to it, even if it doesnt I probably will cock an ear.(hehe I said cock) Anyway but my favorites (in no particular order): Jimmy Buffet, RHCP, Eminem, ACDC, Lynard Skynard, Toby Keith, Hinder(one of my newer top tens), Everclear, offspring, and Nickelback.
Who says there is no diversity in the south?!?

Green Day.. Green Day..
Y'know, American Idiot really isn't too bad of an album. It's catchy here and there, I'll give it that. But it isn't too good of an album, either, and is missing a certain element I can't touch upon that made their previous albums good (well.. Warning excluded, which went full speed ahead to Uninteresting City).
In fact, I would say American Idiot is part of an elaborate plot by Billie Joe Armstrong to get his old self plastered all over the media. Step 1: Create simplistic and catchy music which the Big Four record labels will successfully cram down anybody's throat. Step 2: ??? Step 3: Billie Joe's stupid makeup-coated face is everywhere. TV, the internet, magazines, everything... you can't go anywhere without seeing something about the new and super-spectacular Green Day, and you especially can't miss Billie Joe Armstrong, making that same stupid facial expression that says, "Like, whoa dude. I just earned enough money to coat my toilet in diamonds."
I just want to punch him in the face.

While familiar with Green Day's American Idiot album, I had never heard of Billie Joe Armstrong before this post.

That is for me to know and you to find out. Or, not know.
A couple of days ago, I finally really discovered the Dead Kennedys. They're awesome. I bought Plastic Surgery Disasters/In God We Trust ep. and it's fecking brilliant. Especially Goverment Flu, Terminal Preppie, Riot, Forest Fire and Nazi Punk Fudge off. I actually typed "fudge" (you know, the caramel)

I got Modest mouse's first recorded cd (Sad Sappy Sucker), and it's really interesting. Some songs on it were recorded on an answering machine tape and are about 30 seconds long. Since last month, I've discovered I love Primus after watching their live hallucinogenics show. It is freaking awesome. Also very trippy.
(I'm sorry for reviving the thread, i'll go back to my little hole now)
Ah, it's not too old.. don't worry about it.
Finally, someone who has an appreciation of celtic music.
About 8 years ago when My oldest was 3, I met Natalie McMaster at the Toronto Exhibition. My daughter insisted I get an autograph for her and I landed last in line.
Just as she took my pen, a photographer stepped up behind me to take a picture of Natalie. She looked at me and said, "Oops, I forgot to smile".
I retorted with, "That's okay, my hairs a mess.
My enjoyment of Canadian Eastcoast music did wane momentarily, when Ashley Macisaac appeared on Conan O'brien. He certainly left a lasting impression with the audience.
George Wescott Taylor. Now there's a man who can write a song.

I have liked the Ramones for many years, but I don't remember them as being punk. A cross between The Cars and Sloan perhaps.
Billy Idol, with Steve Stevens was punk until they went main stream. The same can be said for The Clash.
MarilynManson - MilliMeter
<mm trembles at the comparison>

My parents listened to Jim Reeves and Bill Anderson. In 69, my sister got the Blues Breakers album with Johnny Mahall and Eric Clapton. 1970, I attended the Toronto Exhibition for the first time and had a cool visit with Peter Frampton.
I lived 70's & 80's rock, especially anything Canadian until I bumped into Jason McCoy, who grew up not far from where I live now.
Seems like I've come full circle, and Lovin every minute of it.
