I've noticed under contributers, it has like relative newbie, almost-regular poster, etc. How long does it take to get to the next rank and how long to go to the highest one? Redink1 answer please.

I'm just asking a question that I would like answered.

IIRC, the more you post, the higher the rank will be but it also depends on how much others post. If you post a lot but others do that too, overall it doesn't make a difference as the post rank is based on your post count and the total post count.. though the higher you get, the longer it seems to take as I'm a Super-Regular for years now.. I think

Is "Über Poster" the highest rank? If so, how long does it take?

Yeah, I dunno when you get a higher rank but on most boards, the higher the rank, the longer it'll take to achieve in terms of posts: the first rank might be at 10 posts, the next one at 25, then at 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 etc.. more posts in between though the posting ranks here are based on your contribution compared to the overall total post rank. That would also mean that your rank lowers when you leave this site and never post again.. which is true because Binirit used to be an Uber-Poster and she's now a Super-Regular.

Yeah, I think you're fairly accurate. I can't remember the exact calculation I used, but you have to post something like 0.5% of all forum posts in order to get Uber Poster, 0.25% to get Super Regular, and so on.

Deleted posts are not counted, so if someone seems to be posting solely for the reason of attaining a higher rank, then those posts are typically deleted.

Ok, I just looked at my profile there today and it had a picture of a banana and said "Post Whore" What is that supposed to mean Tal or Redink1? Cause I think I should layoff for a day or two. Should I?

In a recent post, you tried to revive it after discussion had ceased for three weeks. Then, you just seemed extremely bossy in telling us to close the threads to stop you from reviving them. So I decided to do something amusing with your board rank.

As you've said in other posts (which I'm assuming is serious), you 'dream' to become an Uber Poster. I've removed the Contributors/Ranking page in the past because people always seem to place more value on it than they should.

The ranking is worthless. It just serves as a very, very rough guideline at how much someone has contributed to the board.

In Miasma 3 (the next version of the web site), I think the contributors page will be much more condensed... it will probably only list the 'badges' a user has. Like if you release a file that wins a DOTM, you'll get a neat DOTM badge. If you set your home country to 'England' in your profile, you'll get an english-flag badge.

Badge Whores I'm gonna set my country to Kyrgyzstan - man, I want the Kyrgyzstan flag there!

Heh... one night last week, I found a site that had a lot of flag images, and I added them all to Miasma 3. Kyrgyzstan was there, actually There are 214 total.

It just indicates how many posts you've posted since the system came to be- so when something seems weird it usually just means those people used to be more active... I myself seem stuck at super-regular. I'm glad though, I prefer that sexy purple star over the trophy. *ohhh*

Interestingly, if I remember right (which I do) I posted over 200 messages in July 2003. At that time, I was second most prolific (that word somehow makes it sound like a good thing...) poster on the network at that time, after WC. I also had 8 posts deleted.

That's because your behaviour is that of a 12 year old, uncoincidently because you are one (some people also behave like a 12 year old when they're not..). None of us revive old threads when it's not needed. None of us (at least publicly ) bother about our rank on the Contributors page (and ours is stuck for years, that too). And so on, just go with the flow here and do some useful things for TDN and you'll find people appreciating you soon enough. I mean things like making useful posts that add something to the thread (information, questions, humo(u)r) or by creating a nice D-Mod/other file.

I could understand your concern if you got something substantial with your ranking, like a stack of nice, tasty pizzas and loads of ladies, but.. you don't get much of anything. You get a bit of text on a webpage and a little star image. Why care?

Years ago, we had a Ranking page. It would list the top 50 contributors on the web site, in order of Points. You could get points by releasing files or writing reviews.

'Point Whores' would do anything to get points in the Ranking system. People would release crappy files just to get points, for instance. After multiple revisions (such as basing file points on the average review score), people still abused it, so the whole page was deleted.

Months or years later, I created the Contributors page. The goal was to have a list of active members in The Dink Network, without saying who was better than who.

The board ranking was just a silly thing I created. I thought that nobody would take it seriously.

I'm tired of fighting with you about this, so the ranks are gone. Now, if you ever make a single post, you get the rank of 'Active.' If not, you get 'Inactive.'

Ranks mean nothing. I mean, who cares? Whilst we're on topic though, could you change my Ranking to the Uber poster.

Maybe they should have said 'important actions'. Changing the rankings isn't really going to affect anyone that I can think of. Anyway, if a sizeable number of Dinkers really wanted them to come back (not just you, DinkKiller), I'd probably resurrect them.

My main fault is laziness: witness last year's DOTY which was held in October or something And I still need to tweak the Active/Inactive thing, dang it... I've been absorbed into the v1.08 project for about 16 hours a day over the past few days.

the measure true lazyness is not of saying but to findout that what you are doing is not worth it so as not to finish it is actualy the right thing to do so not finishing somthing is justafied not just lazy
