As I'm Dying

Countin' flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all. Playin' solitaire 'til dawn, with a deck of 51...

Of course I'm not dying.

So, why must I look back on everything I write and regret it? I've always pondered this. Everything I say seems invalid and unnecessary. This will be, too, with time. Hrm.

I think sex is very meaningful, perhaps just as meaningful as one's first kiss in a relationship. Others disagree. I had what I thought to be terrific reasoning earlier today.. alas, I have lost it.

I'd be more than delighted to commit suicide; alas, too many people care for me, and I constantly worry about what they may think of me when I'm gone. And I care for them, really. It's difficult to find someone who'll always be there for you.

I don't recall drinking a cup of cola; what is this cup doing in front of me...

I want to learn how to make a dainty Flash cartoon. Alas, I could not possibly comprehend how, as I'm an inept fiend.

It was more so to Tal, alli. It did remind me that you once said that Quentin Tarantino's films have enjoyed a high degree of cult sucess, although grossing more than 200 million worldwide is hardly a cult movie.
-It doesn't surprise me that Tal is having these thoughts, but it would surprise me if he ever went through it.

I regret to inform you that, culturally lacking fool that I am, I have not seen Pulp Fiction.

This should've been mentioned yesterday, but why must we "remember" 9/11? It's been two years; let's put that behind us and focus on the present. Eh?
September 12th 2003, 08:01 PM

I completely agree with what you said Tal, but I think we have moved on. It's more of a day that the U.S. reflects on a day that changed it a lot, like you would remember a day that changed yourself significantly, eg. an anniversary or birthday. But that might just be another crazy illogical theory that I come up with now and then. *shushes up*

Oh c'mon! There are remembrance days for wars and suchlike... what's wrong with having a day (and it is only 2 years Tal)to remember the thousands that were killed in a HUGE disaster.
The day may not have "changed" the U.S, but the point is... remembering those poor people.

As much as I feel sorry for those people, you have to realize that a thousand people die a day, and most people don't give two sh*ts about them.
-By the way, that song that Tal was singing at the beginning of his post was in Pulp Fiction, so I thought he might have heard it from that.

I believe he heard it from me, and I heard it from my grandpa who used to sing it all the time when I was like 3.

Ah, memories...

"As much as I feel sorry for those people, you have to realize that a thousand people die a day, and most people don't give two sh*ts about them."
9/11 was a terrible day for the U.S, where thousands died in the destruction of one (well... two...you get the idea) of America's most famous buildings.
Of course thousands die everyday, but in the western world, it's not very common for planes to be flown into buildings, leaving people the choice of either to be burned/crushed to death, or leap to their doom.

I'm sorry if I'm being a bit OTT, but I find it hard to believe that just 2 years on from one of the BIG disasters of recent history, and you want to just forget about it, and not remember those people.

Remembering is one thing; not letting it go is another. I don't mind having a moment of silence or whatever, but when people refuse to discuss anything else, it gets very tiresome very quickly. I'm not saying we should forget about it and move on; I'm saying we should remember it and move on. But I also didn't suffer any personal loss that day, so my view is bound to differ from those who did.

How could I ever forget Sabre? I'm never going to forget it. Every time someone says September 11 or 911 or 9-11 or whatever, I will remember. But as many people die all the time and we don't care. Does that make them lesser people? You'll probably say that we have no emotional attachment to those people which is true, but I had no real personal attachments to 9-11, since my uncle was fine and lives in Astoria which isn't on Manhattan Island. Plus those events gave Bush a high approval rating for doing nothing, while Guiliani deserved it for what he did with NYC during his tenure as mayor.
September 14th 2003, 01:56 PM
peasantmp.gif
And why do we remember them though? Why do we not remember all the presidents, or the explorers, or the leaders, or anything that happened to the U.S.? Why do we instead have Martin Luther King Day, Columbus Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Talk Like A Pirate Day instead? The pattern that I can see is that we remember them because they changed us the most. We don't remember that day solely for the people, but moreso (IMO at least) the effect that it had on the US. If your friend gets cancer, you don't pray for all those poor little cells in her body getting ravaged, you pray for her well being overall. But that's probably a bad analogy that detracted from my point. So I'll hug Sabre. *hug*

Exactly, and thanks for the hug.

Whilst thousands may die everyday due to other causes, 9/11 was not just a day where many, many died, but one of the U.S's monuments, almost an institution, was destroyed.
As EatTheRats points out, it's the effect as a whole... the Twin Towers is a large part of American culture, if you will, and it's destruction was a catastrophe.
Like if David Beckham was shot in England. He is more popular than royalty.

They don't celebrate Leif Ericksson Day, or Sakakawea(Sacajawea) Day, or Sitting Bull Day, or Leonard Peltier Day, or Rodney King getting his ass handed to him by a couple of cops and the cops being found not guilty Day.
-Tal, why did you have to bring up 9-11? It's way off topic now.

You got the lyrics wrong, though. The complete lyrics:

Well I've heard that you're concerned about my happiness
But all the thought you're givin' me is
Conscience I guess
If I were walkin' in your shoes I wouldn't worry none
While you 'n your friends are worrying about me I'm havin' lots of fun

Countin' flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire til dawn with a deck of 51
Smokin' cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me there's nothin' to do

Last night I dressed in tails, pretended I was on the town
As long as I can dream it's hard to slow this swinger down
So please don't give a thought to me; I'm really doing fine
You can always find me here, I'm having quite a time

...

It's good to see you, I must go, I know I look a fright
Anyways my eyes are not accustomed to this light
And my shoes are not accustomed to this hard concrete
So I must go back to my room and make my day complete

...

That was just off the top of my head. But hey, thanks for the complete lyrics. I think Johnny Cash once recorded that. All of my family plays music and we've sang that song many many times. It's a goodun.
Who wrote that?

It's the Statler Brothers... I don't believe Johnny Cash ever made a cover of it, but I could be wrong. He made covers of a lot of stuff. Like his awful cover of U2's "One."

Don't get me wrong, I love Johnny Cash. Ring of Fire amuses me to no end.

I think he covers way too much, I know he's old, and currently dead, but I remember that most of his last record was covers, I just personally think that unless it's a cover album, there should not be more than 3 cover songs on it.

Sorry Safmoor- that sucked. You are really anti-Bush, are'nt you? You make a lot of posts about political subjects so you must feel strongly about the policies of this nation. Which is great cuz I do also. Just don't agree. But we can still be friends.

By the way, has anyone heard anything else from Christiaan today? Other than his sad post, I mean

Perhaps some things are a little out of proportion that are anti-Bush, but understand that you've never gotten the full side either. The media in general, is right biased. Just stop and think about it, the media is owned by mega corporations, correct? Well, the republicans are generally much more lenient on the Corporations regulations, resulting in more profit. If the media (convincingly) makes the republicans look better and criticizes the democrats, they get more money. So it actually is a smart decision. That's why I think it's good to have Michael Moore and Rage Against the Machine, to help counter the brainwashing of generations by Rush Limbaugh.

Of course, no matter what you say, I'll never cross the line into the right, and you'll never cross the line into the left.(Despite what I think is evidence of corruption, and you think is evidence of a great president)

But seriously, what do you think is a more accurate argument, Limbaugh criticizing liberals for being commies, or Moore criticizing "pubs" for doing damage to the environment? I'm not saying that conservatives are as brainless as Limbaugh, but he gives you guys a bad name.

I tend to believe that the Bush administration isn't the best thing since sliced pizza, and yet isn't intent upon burninating the peasanties of the world.

Bush and co have done some good stuff, some bad stuff. To just adhere to a single viewpoint is to become zealous.
