Scorching Heat
Wowee, today was the hottest day recorded in England. It may not sound too hot to those of you from warmer climates, but in England, the home of pissy weather, it is quite crazy!
The previous record was 37.1 degrees centigrade, and the record was smashed today, as Heathrow hit a high of 37.9.
That is HOT. I think I might die.

O.O
Well, that'd be hot enough to melt 1 liter of ice-cream in half hour or so.
But here, in Puebla, sometimes it's 40°C in summer. But not this summer, 'cause it has been raining these days.

why did i have to come back from mablethrope into melting weather
atleast at the coast you get sea breeze

Hohoo, you're all wussies, it's 100° C here in Finland... In sauna, that is.
I HATE the heat. Here in southern Ontario, where we are sandwiched between the Great Lakes, we also get high humidity/humidex readings. I think the true measure of heat is not the actual temperature reading but whether you have air conditioning. For those of us without it, like myself, the heat becomes unbearable. Try sleeping in it. Ugh.
Hang in there. Hope you have A/C. If not, cold showers work wonders.

Why? It's true. Though usually it's only 60-80° C... Oh well. I like it hot so that I can scratch myself all over. *cough*
It's hot here too. It has been for a week over 30 degrees... But it's still better then in Spain where it's 50 degrees.
Like mI said, we Brits aren't used to this heat! I mean, it was 20 degrees hotter than Brazil...and 10 hotter thatn Barbados!
ThinkDink, you wouldn't want to live by the sea, it wouldn't be fun after 3 days. I wouldn't live there anyway.

It's over 30° C in Belgium too. Yesterday, a temperature of 37° C was recorded in my own town and I can tell you one thing : It's hard to endure if your computer is in a room right under the roof.
I wish it would subdue. I mean, it's damaging a lot of stuff. I heard the Netherlands might lose their power supply because the water won't cool down.

Yeah, that's right - we now have code red here and we're adviced to do things later that don't really have to be done right now, so they can handle it better.

We just can't live anymore without technology, but nature is always stronger.

I am suffering in San Diego, California - we hit 107 degrees at my house - HELP I'm melting
Tisk tisk tisk... Gotta be the odd one out and use fahrenheit?
I use Fahrenheit, but *at least* I convert it to Celsius. 107 degrees F is equivalent to 41.6 deg. C. Note: this was not meant to insult you in any way, Ace!

No insult taken - that's what we use here in the good ole USA! Gotta go - temps are dropping, gonna hit the beach and do some tanning & surfing, party on!
"I heard the Netherlands might lose their power supply because the water won't cool down."
That doesn't sound right. How does the tempature of the water affect a power plant?
Somebody's yanking your chain.
The tempature here in the southwest part of the US is well over 100 every day for the past couple months and before that it was in the 90.s. This is normal weather for us every year. I never realized so many countries could not adjust to heat that well till reading about those people who died in France and other places and after reading all your comments. Beware: Heatstroke will kill you before you know you got it. Kyle, get out of that room under the eaves. Heatstroke will scramble your brains. Maybe it won't affect you, tho----just kidding! Everyone teases you so much, I couldn't resist.

Um.. They need cool water to condence the super high pressure steam so that it will go in one direction, then it can be re-vaporized, blown through the turbine, and then recondenced yadda yadda yadda. Highly inefficent? Yes. Anything better? Not really..
Gotta love boilers..
Oh, yes, and NEVER try to do simulate this at home... Very very hot water-steam in a beaker over a burner at ~35ATM in a pressure lock that you think is circulating, but is not, causes problems. People stop being your lab partner in science for one...
Really, though, I don't have a death wish...
I just like high-explosives...

Ok I'm not into science at all but doesn't the simple mechanics of a power plant mean the flowing water produces kinetic energy that turns turbines, generators, etc., that produces energy? And nearly all power plants get their water from lakes and resevoirs with dams which have water inlets (or whatever you call them) down low toward the bottom of the dam. The deeper water is always much colder than the surface. Kyle's quote is "lose their power supply because the water won't cool down".
He's talking about countries that are not normally so hot which means the sun has not had time yet to superheat the lake or reservoir into turning over. Do you see where I'm going here? But.... like I said, this is not my field so I'm probably way out of my league. Think I'll hush. Good morning everyone.
