Because it's not necessary. One of the reasons Playstation 2 had the DVD and PS3 had the blu-ray was that you could use it to watch movies which was a really important selling point. This way you could tell your wife/husband/parents that they'd save the money on buying a DVD/blu-ray player when buying a game console. But currently even 3D HD movies don't need anything more than blu-ray yet.
Also, with current broadband internet physical data carriers are getting less and less important. You can now watch HD movies online if you want. Perhaps omitting the optical drive altogether is a more futuristic approach than including a new kind of optical drive. But Sony and Microsoft weren't ready to do that yet.

Yeah, physical media in the form of CDs are getting more and more needless. The best discs can store up to like 400GB today. Would you store a movie on that? No, you store like five complete series of Star Wars in 3D 1080p on it. A disc that you can lose, scratch to make it unreadable etc.
Buy and download the stuff to your HDD instead. You save space, cash and the environment!

I don't think that even half of my generation knows what a book is. It's all about those smartphones and tablets.

I believe the value of a book is proportional to the number of trees felled to make it.
Then it would stand to reason that the entire Dark Tower series would be expensive. Hell, the Bible alone would be worth a lot.

The only good use for the bible would be to rip out the pages and use it as toilet paper.

The bible, regardless of if it is an accurate and truthful text, has many good life lessons in it, some of which has lead mankind to some good and wholesome decisions when applied to life correctly. If you believe in what it states, it offers hope for an admittedly crappy life, if you don't, then it makes at the very least a decent story that is both interesting to read and study.
The best use of the bible is to take the lessons it offers, use them to enhance your life in a way that betters your and other peoples' lives in a positive way. Regardless of belief or lack thereof.

Yeah, a believe that requires you to hurl insults towards someone else's believes whenever a topic just mentions those believes is so much more civilized. That cozy red hot feeling of anger must be so comfortable.
And truth? Truth is overrated right?

Nope the truth is not overrated.
Nope the truth is not overrated.
Actually, Pred, the Romans, who were not Christian, but followed a religion similar to the Greeks, were the ones who crucified criminals. You know, murderers, rapists, those kinds of people. It was the religious leaders of the Jewish community that despised Jesus for claiming to be the son of God. Basically, what happened was they arrested Jesus on false charges, Pontius Pilate, the man who allowed the crucifixion, didn't do anything to stop an innocent man from being killed, and the people who gathered were unaware of the truth, aside from the Apostles.
Reading helps, as it allows you to make halfway decent arguments.
Also, if the truth is not overrated, then why do you blatantly disregard it when someone gives it to you? (Not related to the previous tangent, but in general. Meaning in every topic you post in.)

Well its not just christanity it religion as a whole that corrupt people.
Religion is the enemy of progression.
Religion is the enemy of progression.
It is true that the Bible has some good life lessons in it. It's also true that it has some TERRIBLE lessons in it, and horrible examples of "love" being taught to kids. The problem is that most of us having religion forced down our throats aren't old or smart enough to figure out which lessons are the good ones or the bad ones.
"If you really love someone, you'll allow others to do horrible things to them and if they are good people they will still blindly love you." (Job)

God: "Kill everyone in this village".
Israelis: "Ok".
*Israelis spare women and children.*
God: "You've disobeyed me! Kill the women and children this instant!"
And this is the guy we pray to and believe in. One thing I've learned from The Bible, is that God is batshoot insane.

I was referring mainly to the New Testament, there are some good lessons in it Are all of them good? No. Some? Yes.
Also, it isn't religion that corrupts people, people already corrupt other people. Take you, for instance, Predisher. You're an donkey who insults everybody regardless of religious belief, and when someone else calls you out for your donkeyry and hypocritical actions, you retort be calling them hateful donkeys and hypocrites. Did religion make you this way? No. You're an atheist, and therefore don't believe in anything.
Now, for counterpoint: I was raised Baptist Christian, I was raised to treat people as I want to be treated, I was raised to be polite to everyone and, if absolutely necessary, defend myself against personal attacks.
Now, I was raised to be a good kid, I never was an donkey to any other people until I started Middle School. Over time, I observed how other people acted.
These other people were Atheists and other non-Christians. At this point, I could argue that their corruption comes from their religious backgrounds and use that as proof that Christians are at the very least more morally sound that other people. But a person with heavy religious bias would say that, not me. Anyway, I observed their behavior, emulated it, and learned how to act like an donkey when necessary. It's a survival tactic, it drives people you don't want around you away.
My main point, if you didn't bother to read all of that, is that religion does not corrupt, it's what corrupt people can use to spread corruption. If a person holds power, whether that power is extreme wealth, or high standing in religious or political positions, then they will abuse that power to get what they want. It's a sad truth that makes me, at the very least, slightly misanthropic towards humanity.

I have two problems with christianity in the western world.
1. It's bullshoot. Children shouldn't be brainwashed to believe in made-up stuff; that's insane, even if the beliefs are relatively harmless.
2. Christianity doesn't bring out the values it superficially preaches. Respect, humbleness, etc. Good stuff, but you belong to a club that thinks they are god's chosen ones, while everyone else isn't. That doesn't bring out humbleness in anyone. Usually it's this side that manifests in people, i.e. religious people tend to be ruder and less empathetic than the next person.
Furthermore, there's absolutely nothing special about the so-called christian values. Who doesn't want their kids to be respectful? That's a rudimentary human value every non-believer on the planet values just as much as any christian, just without the harmful extra baggage of contrary beard guy nonsense.
Anyway, I observed their behavior, emulated it, and learned how to act like an donkey when necessary. It's a survival tactic, it drives people you don't want around you away.
Yeye... Treat others as you wish to be treated doesn't really work when the others treat you like dirt. Treat others as they treat you works much better.
PS. Been a while since a heated religion argument.

The biggest problem is that people that are too young to think for themselves have these beliefs thrown on them, and then they are taught "lessons" from the bible. By the time they've grown old enough to question it they have already become too comfortable with the belief to let go of it without a fight. And thus it can be difficult for them to think clearly. And most of the lessons the Bible teaches them are so contradictory it can confuse even believers. They have to "pretend" the Bible means certain things it doesn't say or else their entire basis of moral and belief blows up in their face. And yet the Bible says thou shalt not add nor remove from it.
I imagine that this constant teetering between what the Bible says and what it means is extremely uncomfortable for any religious person who actually thinks about it.

Perhaps the best post to EVER come from scracther.
The main reason why I more or less strayed from Christianity is mainly because I don't trust people in general. It's too easy for someone to take something and twist it until all original meaning is lost. The Catholics did it with 'indulgences', essentially getting money from people who didn't know any better because the priests didn't take the time to show them was was actually in the book.
A lot of things get lost in translation as well, what's to say that one sentence actually means what it states? what if it means the exact opposite? I prefer to look at the world and see it in not only a scientific aspect, but a spiritual one as well.

Spirituality can be good and bring peace to a person. But when that spirituality comes from a strict religion it will most likely bring peace only through conformity and faith and thus is easily broken and manipulated by others. Thus I believe spirituality without strict religion is good, but strict religion in general is bad. "Strict" meaning other people or mediums such as the Bible "rule" over you so to speak.
Exactly. With me, I believe that all of matter is comprised of energy stored within atoms, that atoms themselves are energy. (The well-known equation E=mc2 is actually about this, from what I understand.) Since everything is energy, then by being one with the natural world and not constantly squabbling over petty things, we'll be more peaceful.
This is personal belief, so I'm not going to state it as absolute fact or anything, but it's how I see the world, and how I understand it. Currently, I'm trying to compile all of my thoughts regarding it so that people can look over it at their leisure.
