The main reason why I more or less strayed from Christianity is mainly because I don't trust people in general. It's too easy for someone to take something and twist it until all original meaning is lost. The Catholics did it with 'indulgences', essentially getting money from people who didn't know any better because the priests didn't take the time to show them was was actually in the book.
A lot of things get lost in translation as well, what's to say that one sentence actually means what it states? what if it means the exact opposite? I prefer to look at the world and see it in not only a scientific aspect, but a spiritual one as well.
