New Dev File: Off-Handed Shield
The enterprising duo of ExDeathevn and RobJ have teamed up again to release Off-Handed Shield.
This is a very slick demonstration of having Dink hold a shield with either a fist or sword equipped - it looks pretty darn seamless.
It's worth playing the demo just to see it in action.
It's quite amazing what innovations people are still adding to a game that's almost 25 years old.

In the style of Bloop the Fish, the shield disappears when pushing things. Also what's all that stuff commented out in die.c?
Skurn: Yeah, no. I briefly considered trying to make a spell animation for the guard effect, but reconsidered. And the Kite-shield that comes with the current version wouldn't work with any sort of throwing attack anyway.
Yeoldetoast: The assumption is that Dink needs both hands to push (or pull) anything heavy, so of course he puts the shield down for it. You've never seen him try to push stuff with a bow or sword have you?

Uhm, you and RobJ are working together on a new D-Mod that was originally meant for the Dink Throwback contest? Just a random guess, since no one seems to be taking one.
Off-Handed shield has been updated, with all the functions, fixes, Guard timer bar and 2 shield variants (default Kiteshield & Buckler) from Charlie's Legacy included.
Is a third shield variant planned? Maybe a tower shield or a shield that is a bit bigger than the kite shield perhaps?
I see the buckler as the opposite of the longsword, giving least amount of defense
Then kite shield as the clawsword upgrade but for shield
A third shield to be like the lightsword as a shield upgrade would be great!
I currently modified the shields to just give passive defense bonus, +4 for the buckler and +13 for the kite shield, a third shield would definately be a +25 defense upgrade for me

At this current time I am not planning to make additional shield graphics; Painstakingly editing each Dink sprite frame-by-frame to add a shield to idle, walk and sword variations is a lot of work pixel-by-pixel, at least the way I was doing it. So a Tower shield is definitely out of the question, at least for now.
The idea behind the different shields at present is a reduced defense bonus to compensate for a faster recharge time on the manually active defensive ability for the buckler, while a slower recharge and higher defense on the kite shield.
If I were to add anything new, it would be something like a Thorns effect (enemies take minor damage when they hit you with a melee attack). Both existing shields have their uses; Custom inventory icons can always be made and used at your discretion without adding to the existing Dink sprites if you wish to add more variety though.
