lyna's story
Lyna's Story
does anyone know the answer to the riddle of how the girl died?
Ain't this belonging in file discussion? Just wondering.
I played Lyna's Story about 4 years ago; so I downloaded it, but when I went to play it says: "cannot play in true mode, or windowed mode"? Back then I had a different machine than I do now, so what setting should I be at? I do know how to change settings, but as to the "windowed mode", I'm unfamiliar! Can anyone help?
Load DFArc and be sure to uncheck Windowed mode and True Color before you hit the Play button above them.
What is DFArc, and where do I find it to download? Also, do I install it into the main Dink directory? OK,I found DFArc, but could you tell me HOW to install it? I didn't get an option to uncheck anything! Also, part of it's a zip file, and part is not?! OK, So I printed the readme page, and dragged "Lyna" onto the "DFArc", but when I start the program there are still no changes?! Also, I don't get the option to uncheck anything, or, get a command line?! I'm not really up on alot of this end stuff, mainly I can download and install, and that's about it! Can someone give me a more detailed procedure on how to get all this working? Also, WHY do people submit dmods with these sort of conditions? Thanx, Lance.
You don't have to install it. That window showing the list of Dmods and some startup options is DFArc (v2, to be precise).
SORRY, but see my last post! The reason this is blank, is because I had to log in, in order to modify my last message. GOD HELP A POOR IDIOT!
OK, so why do I get the message about "true color, and windowed mode"? My brother seems to think it might be because it's a dos game? Is this true?
It's because the game changes pallets in game and that doesn't work with windowed or true color mode. That's why it's made so that you can only play it in normal mode.
So, what do I have to do in order to achive "normal" mode?; OR Am I wasting my time?
Take off the True-color and Windowed mode! Is it clear? Thank you!? God! How stupid can a Dinker be?
1. Open DFArc.
2. You see checkboxes below the "play Dmod" button.
3. Uncheck the checkboxes "True color mode" and "windowed mode", or something similar.
If your brother thinks these terms have ANYTHING to do with MS-DOS, he should learn DEFINATELY more about computers. DOS doesn't work in a windowed way, and "true color" is a term to define 32-bits colors (billions) on the screen at once, which can unfortunately slow down the Dink Smallwood game.

ONE: When I check on DFArc, I don't get those options (see previous posts), TWO: my brother might be a bit strange, but he's a computer TECH, for an outfit called "computer esentials", so please leave him alone! I know it's my fault for even brinning him into the conversation! God, you guys( and girls can be cruel sometimes)!
I think the problem stems from the fact that you are probably using DFArc 1.5... the latest version is 2.0 and it installs with Dink Smallwood 1.08. It replaced Dink Front End as the new Front End for loading and playing dmods. DFArc2 *does* have those boxes that can be checked. If you do not have those, you are not using DFArc2.
If you can't seem run DFArc2, I'd suggest reinstalling Dink Smallwood v1.08.
Also... if you do not have it already, you may want to redownload Lyna's Story in its .dmod format so that it can be easily installed, simply by double clicking on it.

I'm cruel? That's new. I'm clearly instructing what to do, and then I told you some info on the terms I gave. I am puzzled by the fact how he mentioned DOS, though.
My bad, don't get me wrong, I try to get along with everyone! I really don't want to download Dink again (can I get away with just reinstalling it from the folder I have it in?); I will redownload Lyna's Story though. After that, will DFArc already be in either folder, or should I redownload that too? Please advise. Thanx. P.S. If any of you live near Hudson, ME. U.S.A., Your invited to a HUGE pig roast/party, being held August 18th! 1 TO 3 Bands will be playing! Bring friends!
Don't bother downloading the DFArc that's on the website. That's version 1.5, only use the version that comes with Dink Smallwood 1.08
I just did that: went into the main Dink v.1.08 file; I opened DFArc, but there was STILL no boxes to uncheck? I redownloaded Lyna's Story, and dragged DFArc into the folder, but that didn't make a difference! Should I redownload and install "Dink", or can I just reinstall the version I have? I still don't belive I'll get the necessary options!?
Umm... you don't need to drag DFArc into any folder. Either way, I really have no more ideas on how to help or why you don't see anything. My only suggestion is to find someone computer literate to help you.
Maybe you installed DFArc 1.5 after installing v1.08.
You don't have to download Dink Smallwood over again, you could just grab the v1.08 patch.

it's me again! I tried to install the patch. I got a message that "the file was corrupted; Sorry, but I have to go for now; I'm not entirely sure, but I think that my DAD is dying!? My mom, dad, and I are headed for the hospital right now! Talk at you'all later: please check the file out! I'll keep you'all posted!
Again! I REPEAT: There are NO check boxes! I don't know what version you folks are talking about, but I redownloaded "Lyna's", and "Dink"; these made absolutly no difference! Guess, I'll just dump it and forget it! Is that ok with you'all? As far as the patch goes, I keep getting a "file corrupted" message? Dad's in the hospital now, we don't know for how long? Everyone: cross your fingers, and pray! Thanx everyone!

Those are checkboxes, alright. If your version of DFArc looks entirely different, it's the old version or not even DFArc at all. Get the new version 2.0... It comes with Dink v1.08.

Is there an alternate place to get the: v1.08 patch? I tried downloading the posted attachment from the message board, but when I tried to install it, I got: "file corrupted" message?! UPDATE: I redownloaded Lyna's Story, but when I clicked on it, the box that lists the dmods I have loaded appears?! This is v.2, I'm still not getting any check boxes to unclick! Obviously, I haven't quite given up yet!
I just tried downloading and installing the patch, and it worked fine. It could be that when you downloaded it, it did not completely download, which could explain the 'file corrupted' message.
I'm having zero luck with the patch?! I'm taking off for the weekend, maybe someone will come up with an idea, by the time I get home?!

Just uninstall Dink Smallwood (don't delete saves and such), and reinstall it. The proper DFArc (DFArc2) will be in the "...\Dink Smallwood\" folder. Open that up--you'll see checkboxes below play. If not, I'm afraid you'll have to just download the full version :/

Oh, and if you have to download it again, be sure to uninstall it before installing it... Just to be on the safe side.
Also, if the list is messed up (DMods are missing), just click the "Edit" thingy in the top part of it (just below the draw-and-move thingy) and refresh the list.
