No, I shouldn't, and nor should you. Even the Halo series doesn't come close to the same level of "overrated" that this mindless clickfest does.

I pretty much agree with Davince, Diablo got boring really fast. I hated how it FORCED you to replay the game to get all the quests, the dungeons were uninteresting (it only had 4 that got randomly generated many times anyway) and the story and NPC interactions were virtually nonexistant.

I didn't mind the gameplay, though, it might have been a good game if the dungeons were carefully designed, none of the randomly generated crap. As it is, you only really have to play through the first level to know what the entire game is going to be.

Diablo gets bonus points for the protagonist who looks kinda like Dink Smallwood, though.

I wouldn't say "it's awesome" until the game's actually been released and you played it a bit. I've seen plenty of games that LOOKED good, but PLAYED like crap, after all.

How come broodwar sucked? It was pretty solid for an expansion, imo, if still just warcraft in space.

The balance got screwed up with some of the new units. Zerg became the weakest opponent I've ever played against in any strategy game involving different races until later, when I played some other strategy games. A

Another example of over/underpowered races in a game was the recent Command and Conquer 3 with the Scrin's shield upgrade almost doubling the health of a single Tripod.

After that I forgot Starcraft entirely, only remembering at the mention of the word "Blizzard".

Zerg sucked in Broodwar? Maybe you just sucked. If anything, original SC had a slight favor towards them. BW addressed those issues by giving the Terrans more of a fighting chance against the Zerg's strengths. And still, even in Broodwar, most of my victories have been when I was playing as Zerg.

It was more my hate for their few new units and the "Stealth" factor not being as effective. And their new morph-created Anti-Air flying creature looked like charred popcorn.
The protoss' Dark Templars had their own stealth which gave them a good boost, but the only good thing about the Dark Archon was it's Mind Control. And the Arbiter (I think that's the one) was balanced well in that it couldn't stealth itself, and the the corsairs had a terrible attack-animation.
And the terrans can beat the Zerg easilly with just a click to hype them on Steroids/Alcohol/Stim Packs (Whatever's in them) and large numbers. Valkyries, I completely boycotted from the name, and Nukes were always as overpowered as their Battleships. Cost kept them balanced though.

You couldn't POSSIBLY have hated THE lurker, though, it more than makes up for the charred popcorn if you ask me.

As for your remark about Terran versus Zerg, I sort of agree, but the whole game works like Rock-Paper-Scissors. Zerg still seems like the best choice whoever you're facing, rather than ending up with Terran vs Protoss or Protoss vs Zerg.

Not liking their names and how they looked are some pretty weak arguments for boycotting the use of them. It sounds like you really didn't explore the game or its possibilities much.

For instance, much like the Ultra, the "charred popcorn" was a pretty crappy unit if used in groups of just itself, but when you throw in several with a swarm of Mutas, they really give a big boost to your airforce by decreasing the enemy's rate of fire. The few resources you spend on turning a few Mutas to Devs could mean the difference between victory and death for that squad.

Also, even stimmed marines fall to massive (and I mean massive) swarms of cheap, fast zerglings, let alone a force with more powerful units.

The corsair's poor attack (though if you're just complaining about the art... WTF?) was made up for by the quick rate of fire and that it did splash damage. Plus, being able to instantly lock-down turrets is just pretty invaluable.

It was silly to boycot Valks, as they are probably the best air-to-air unit in game, especially in groups of 5 or more. If you're doing a Battlecruiser sweep, nothing quite protects them as well as a bunch of Valks and Sci ship.

It was only the Valk I boycotted.
I used the charred popcorn (dev, I believe you called it?) a few times during the campaign and found it ineffective, but I agree that a swarm of Mutalisks can be good in a mixed force. (eg 2 squads Mutas, 3 squads Hydras, 1 squad Ultras)
When you support the Terran marines with Medics, Flamethrowers and SCV's building bunkers all over the place where you advance it kinda ruins the zergling's attack chances.
And yes, scratcher, I didn't hate the Lurker. I disliked it seeing as the amount of Detectors scyrocketed copared to stealth units (Unless you count a group of units under an Arbiter) and that it fired in a straight line towards its target. If an enemy group came in with a single forewards line through a canyon, sure, easy damage. But if you place it in the middle of nowhere and it gets surrounded, it's gone.

As far as medics go, no, they're just not enough. You could possibly do it with tons and tons of bunkers, but that'd be silly. Really, the only thing I've seen stop the multiple full screen swarms is if they're backed by tanks.

I'll admit, that kind of Terran vs Zerg strategy seems unlikely to be successful, but I've used it on occasion mainly as a distraction. With SCV's constantly repairing each other and the bunkers, the zerg's progress does slow down somewhat enough for a couple of battleships to fly in assuming the battle lasts that long. Tanks make a useful back-up as well, but the battleships hinder any air-units the zerglings have as backup while blasting zerglings down themselves. Especially with a yamato cannon to blow away that other morph for the Muta's should they have a few.
(Gawd I'm getting so forgetful with the unit names for the Zerg)

I am also looking forward to its release. I wish they would put up some new info soon.

After reading your posts, I realized I never played Diablo II, so I thought "let's give it a try".
After I played the first two acts, my opinon is:
short review: boring
long review: boooooooooooooooring
Now that's not a storyline. I mean you're in a town, where people send you to kill bad guys.
I also notice the total lack of humor, in this game.
The only part I enjoyed, was the save-game system, that made the gameplay more entertaining.

There's a story, and (IMO) an interesting one at that, but it distances itself from the gameplay. You can ignore it almost completely if all you want to do is run in and kill.

I disliked almost everything in Brood War, specially the new invisible units. They just make you to have a boring detector near all the time.

You couldn't POSSIBLY have hated THE lurker, though, ...Okay, I guess that was one of the invisible units you were talking about. shoot.

I personally liked the new stealth units, you would still need detectors in original Starcraft when playing against the Terrans- Offensive stealth units for the other races was a welcome addition in my mind.

I can't really think of anything I disliked exclusively in Broodwar (It was an extremely well made expansion), I hated a lot of things in Starcraft on a general level though.

Geed in the rogue camp says "All my wares are guaranteed for life, and come with a two-day warranty." I don't laugh a lot at it, but it is obviously meant to be funny, or even more to underline the dishonest nature of the character.

Alkor the alchemist in Act III is really funny.

But I have to agree the game is remarkably pompous to the ironic.

I agree the gameplay is simple, but I do not agree that it gets boring quickly. Maybe I am more a fan than most, of killing and bloodshed... Actually it feels, however, like the main motive of playing is the levelling, a feeling that Diablo is good at keeping alive.

Diablo II is old, but the graphics are timeless. It also works technically well on new Windows versions, which further lengthens its longevity.

Well, there are funny parts, as ehasl mentions, but you have to remember the world is overflowing with demons and evil. It's hard to laugh when your on the brink of total destruction. Unless you talk to Gheed or Alkor, they have the humorous lines in my opinion, and the numer pad, I lold when my barabarian went "Oops", and "My bad".

I suppose this is somewhat of a big deal. I'm infinitely more stoked about Rune Factory 2, however. You could say it's /like/ Diablo 3, but with more Harvest Moon. And very little elements of Diablo.

Actually, I usually remember that it's just a game, witch involves having fun. For me, fun means some humor, too.

Wasn't some "Starcraft Ghost" game supposed to have come out a long time ago? I remember saying I was going to buy it, but I never saw it in stores or anything.

The official status is that it's indefinitely postponed. It was set to be released on PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox, but that's not happening.

So...uh...three years later...how about that Diablo 3? Anyone gotten into the beta yet? Which class(es) are you looking forward to? I'm planning to Demon Hunter it up, but I'm looking forward to Witch Doctor as well. I'll play as all of them in time, but those are the ones I'm hyped for.

No, in fact they're hoping to have it released this year. It's in beta stage now.

I must confess I'm looking forward to this right now... Over the years, I've felt the occassional urge to fire up Diablo 2 again, despite how incredibly hollow and pointless that game feels to me.

Diablo 3 is a good excuse to stop resisting the harmful temptations and just wallow in that kind of addictive crap for a while.

I recently blew the dust of my Diablo 2 as well... Really excited for the release, I think it's going to be one of the better games of this decade. Still stand by what I said years ago- it's going to be a helluva beerfest!

I remember playing Diablo when I was 7. I don't know if it was 1 or 2,it had some guy that say's that he'll show me something but just looking at it will cost 50g.And it also had cows that go ''moo'' when ya clicked em.

I've recently seen some beta footage and it looks good, but I'm not sure if or when I'll get around to buying it. I liked it a lot better before they took out the skill points, traits, and offline sp - not to mention adding the pay for items auction house. I'm a bit worried about the replayablitly at this point, but the story telling and quests seem pretty solid.

Anyways, they already set it back to next year with still no official release date, but shooting for early 2012. I've still got awhile to decide.

But Skull, aren't you of the opinion that new games invariably suck? It's a foregone conclusion that Diablo 3 is going to be much better than anything getting released 9 years from now.

It's a fact the gaming industry has fallen down. Doesn't mean good games can't be released occasionally even these days. Especially better games than something from the Diablo series.

I guess everything can't be as good as the Duke Nukem series.

The new Duke Nukem wasn't that great at all. But at least it gave its best to bring out that old-school gaming feeling.

However, my original point was, that I think it's silly you said it'll be one of the better games of this decade, when the decade just began. There could be way more Diablo games released during this decade, which you could love even more. Most likely will not happen, but quite frankly, anything's possible.

First off - I said "I think", which implies that it will surely be one of the games I enjoy a lot the under the current decade (based on blizzards previous games, which I did enjoy a lot).

Second - I also said "one of the games", which implies there surely will be more than one game I'll enjoy this decade.

Has anyone played Fate? It's supposed to be a clone of Diablo and some other rpg's.It was better than Diablo though,it could be called the No.47 of the rpg world.

I never got into the Diablo games though. The Elder Scrolls...

Ahh good ol' Fate; I really loved its' vibrant atmosphere, but it became monotonous to quickly for me. Regardless, I wasted many hours on it in my childhood
