May Day?
I realise I'm a bit early, but... to avoid yet another "happy this-and-that" -thread, let me ask if any of you have any plans for May Day?
If you're wondering why anyone should have plans at all for May Day, you just don't live in Finland. There probably are other countries who make the most of it, though. Anyone?
As for me, nothing fixed so far. Seems like it'll be hanging out with my boyfriend and his mates. Maybe we'll get a barbeque somehow, that'd be cool, it's almost warm enough for grilling things outdoors

May Day as in "the first day of May"? We dont have that here in the US. Interesting cultural tradition you have there in Finland Sharp.

We do have it in some parts...especially in Nebraska, my home state. It was pretty big there. Now I'm in South Dakota, so I don't have any plans really.
The first of May? I shalt be hitting it, verily.
4th of may is the remembering of war victims and 5th is the country independence day for the Netherlands.
The April 25 (tommorrow) is Anzac day for New Zealand and Australia. That is our day for remembering war heroes. We even have what is referred to as a "dawn parade", where people go out at dawn to celebrate and pay respect to the soldiers and their victories, as well as to mourn their losses and those that died. Of course like a lot of western countries we wear poppies on the day and some of the days on both side of it.
I'll be starting my new job. Yay. Can't you see how excited I am?
Oh, and I like the ides more. There's one every month.

We always celebrate May Day Weekend around here.Big party, lots of booze.I'll be staying home, doing laundry or something equally exciting.
In the states we have Labor Day (first monday of September.) My mom remembers having maypoles and such on May Day, though.
I'm so surprised...I've never even HEARD of this "May Day" celebration. Wow...

I will probably be scratching myself in inappropriate places.
Er... I AM wondering why anyone should have plans at all for May Day. I never have had...
Hm... Strange.
Uh... I DO have a plan. Sitting on the chair, as I do every day.

We have a labour day here too. Not sure about the date, though.
Yeah. May Day is the labour day in Finland... it used to be about parades and workers' rights and celebrating accomplishments. Today it's about kids getting drunk and scattering balloons and streamers around. And wearing your student overalls (don't ask. Norway does something like this, too) and student's cap, if you have one.
