Dmod News

I still have a lot of work to do before there is any real plot or any real game play to my dmod (which is called Force Dragons Part 1: Air Dragon. I've set up the intro to the story and set up Dink finding out what he has to do, but there is no progression of the story beyond that, so there isn't enough set up for it to have any backbone yet, so sorry folks but you won't get to see my gem for some time yet. And trust me when I say it will be one. At least I hope it will be. I've put a hell of a lot of effort into it and it's not only at it's only at version 0.2857 of the demo.

There is going to be many features, some of which are unique. The features I have already implemented include: a class system, a difficulty system, a feat system, a help menu (press 'H'), a feats menu (press 'F') and a statistics menu. The features I have begun work on or have yet to begin work on include: a mission journal, mini-games and side-quests. Other features may still be added later, including some I originally had ideas for but got rid of because I couldn't think of how to implement them.

I have also finished the outside and inside of Dink's village and started on the scripts for the village.

Later on I will change my blog about my dmod so that it can be commented to. When that happens you can also post suggestions and requests there. However, it will not be available for comments until i have made more progress into my dmod. Probably when I've just about completed my first demo of it, which may still be a while of, though I'm hoping it won't be (most of the hard work with it is done and I will soon be starting with the easier work (I think). So you may be able to expect it in a few months. I will post any future news/updates here.

If you have any feedback, suggestions or requests for my dmod please tell me of them here.

Sounds promising. I don't play many DMODs, but I'm actually excited about this one.

You are? *shocked tone of voice and shocked expression.* What aspect(s) intrest you? I didn't expect any intrest yet. I only done the post with the hope of getting feedback, suggestions and requests. If you want to know about the progress of my dmod here is a link to my blogs where I have been doing all progress updates.

Well I don't buy it 'till I see it. You haven't made any DMOD before, so I can't say I'm in desperate need of seeing it. Just surprise me with a top DMOD.

One suggestion for you is that you shouldn't make new features too dominant. A good DMOD without any extra features is better then a bad DMOD with loads of new goodies, keep that in mind. If you make new features make sure they're implemented well.

Oh, and another suggestion. If you want more response try not to create an atmosphere in your thread that people can only response to your spelling, it doesn't help.

The fact that DD replies helps just as much, that was what I was trying to say.

Oh, don't you worry I intend to do just that.

So what are the 'feats' and how exactly do they work in terms of affecting gameplay?

I have finally finished Dinks village and have done the first sidequest. things should speed up a little from here on in, since for some reason makijng towns is less fun for me, so I do less work per day when doing them. The demo is about 33% complete now. It'll be small. probably less than 30 minutes play (unless you muck around and do some of the sidequests and play a minigames or two).

In fact my progress over the last few days has been well above what I've expected. I've made massive progress in terms of the maps and ideas. I've now got about 53% of the first demo done. I've even got four potions in. Sorry, but that's all you're getting throughout the whole dmod.

ADDITION: I've renamed the series. It used to be called "Elemental Dragons". It is now called "Force Dragons".

Any release date?

I've learnt not to bother with them. If I give it there could be a chance ( a good one) that I'd not meet it. Anyone remember the dmod that I said would be released by March last year? the one I'd started a couple of months before that? SabreTrout may... he's the one I talked to the most about it at the time. It was just before I started work on Treasury and just after I'd released the first version of the Dink.ini Rewrite.

I've changed the dragon's colour so she's now blue. Then I moved her to a different screen.

So any chances of it arriving before July?
May 16th 2006, 06:02 AM

Doubt it. I have a ton of uni assignments to do right now. So I have no or little time to work on my dmod right now. And even if it does make july, it would only be a demo of about 33% of the game. Sorry. If I didn't have so many assignments, I'd be able to get the demo done by next month even, but, I have 3 assignemnts to do now, 1 more to be started soon, a maths test, and in four weeks I have two exams, so I'm too busy with uni stuff right now. Sorry about the delay, but there's nothing I can do about it.

I like it when a DMOD is just released, no demos. So I can't say I feel bad about the demo not being released yet.

I third that! (not correct, right)

I know I read somewhere that D-Mods that make demos, don't get released as a full D-Mod. I don't remember where I heard that...Maybe you should try to break the demo-full game curse...Good luck!

Actually, Stone of Balance was released as a demo in May 2000 and later in its entirety in November of that year. (Or something like that, the dates may not be entirely accurate)

Really?!?! Then the curse was broken by Gary Hertel. Cool, but the curse still remains, but it's not as strong...

...another correction, SOB was developed by Simon Klaebe.

Though now that you mention Hertel, I think he may have released a demo of POTA before the full version, though I was not around at the time. Which is weird, since it seems like I've been at the DN for my entire life.

Nevermind then...I don't know how I made that mistake... Yet I think someone said that there was a demo of PotA.

Edit: Quoted from Dink Solutions for PotA.

Daniel, there are clowns.
Well, POTA was released in '98 (a year after Dink's original release I believe), so the demo had to have been even older.

There definitely was a demo, since I remember playing it. It ended somewhere around the village that had been destroyed by goblins and said that the full version will propably never be finished. ^^

Most Americans are very careful around cursing or swearing. Personally, I don't see what's wrong with dam n...

I was trying to use the Dink's Trunk system but I have had trouble doing it, so I've dumped that feature. I also removed the new stats for the same reason. The stats menu was also removed because it is no longer needed without the new stats.
