i've noticed that sadly, nobody i know has even heard of dink smallwood . so i thought, why not advertise it? it would be awsome if someone could make a little logo or something to put on a myspace profile or website to spread the word of dink smallwood (the best rpg game ever). if anyone would create such a graphic, i would gladly flash it around on my profiles and such, and i'm sure many other dinkers would as well...

Well the community is actually good as it is and we are very friendly and this can be destroyed if we get lots of traffic and alot of different people.

In our current form we get people in and out, and theirfore our size is basiccally the same.

It makes life simple

Any fool can use a computer. Many do.
The problem is, it's almost 10 years old and the graphics don't appeal to the we-want-graphics gamers

That's a valid point, but I don't think the graphics really appealed to we-want-graphics gamers 10 years ago neither

On the other hand, the game is still fun and (more importantly) free. And new users (not sure how many) do seem to find their way to this site. I bet there are hundreds, maybe thousands more who are just waiting to experience the ten year old magic of Dink!

Like me! I found my way to this site... but that was long after I had played Dink Smallwood...

Chop your own wood, and it will warm you twice.
I tried to convince my friends to play dink. Most of them played half an hour, then stopped because they didn't like the graphics. A single friend of mine finished the original game, and even downloaded some DMODs.

I wouldn't actually mind if Redink1 added TheDinkNetwork to a toplist or two to get us more traffic though.

I'm actually really really up for this, even though it's kinda late to start promoting Dink

So unless Redink1 is really desperate to do this or someone else has serious objections, I'm going on a promotion spree! Do you have any toplists you want to suggest Glenn?

Hmm, I object a bit to toplists. They just seem... silly / not-worth-it.

I guess you have points, toplists are out then. Next strategy, informing reliable free games sites that managed missed us that Dink Smallwood is a neat game.

Hmm, Dink Smallwood in mentioned on Wikipedia. Maybe everyone knew, but it's still nice

I didn't realise it was on Wikipedia... so it was a nice surprise! lol... I found Dink all those years ago on a site called GameHippo... but there's quite a few that don't have it...

It might be a good idea to hold off on the promotion until v1.08 final is released.

Well, I have a programming/scriping forum and Im going to set up the Dink Network as an affilate site, well I have done so already. This means at the top of my forum amongst other sites you can select from a drop-down menu of links, you can get here.

I just need to email ReDink and see if he does not mind this staying the case, though I dont know why he would disagree.

I think this is a great idea. If it was a new game, with top notch graphics, then it would attract tons of people,a nd you'd have to put up with idiots ( as stated previously by someone ) but this game is older, so it would only attract people who would gladly give up some graphics for great gameplay. Looking around, I really think that advertising is desperatly needed to keep the network going. Theres so few people that you dont even get regular posts in the message boards and I havent seen anyone in the IRC chatroom in forever.

I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to.I guess.
Eh, the irc chatroom never had that many people going for it...

And most of us have stuck around here for several years now, so I doubt that we are all just going to get up and leave all of a sudden.

I realize a lot of people here have been around a long time. I used to download dmods and make my own just for friends years ago. I've been a member for a long long time..just not active. I got busy and forgot all about dink...I just dont want to see this Dink community die, thats all.

If you're really determined... you could get one of the code/logo things from one of the DN's partner sites (Dink squad, dinktionary etc) and link it to your profiles etc. That way, if someone was really interested, they could link back to the DN from there. (Once I get around to finishing the new fanlisting you're welcome to have one from there) Would hopefully mean that only the really interested would bother...
I don't think I've been around long enough to be entitled to an opinion on this matter... the DN seems a pretty tight little unit... but its just a suggestion for you anyhow...
