There's nearly always alternatives for coffee: Tea, cocoa, milk, water, lemonade, etc. As for any other kind of social pressure, I've never even heard of someone looking down on someone for not drinking coffee...

My opinion is, drink it if you like the taste. It's addictive, yes, but not nearly enough so that anyone with a little bit of willpower couldn't stop drinking it at will. As for the health concerns, while coffee might not be healthy, there are many other drinks and foods which are more dangerous. Rather than "ruining" my life by drinking coffee, I'd not "ruin" it by prohibiting myself something I find enjoyable.

[/i]... yet at their work there's only a coffee machine to provide them with drinks.[/i]

They don't even have access to water? That seems kind of ridiculous.

I've never had coffee, and caffeine (at least that in carbonated beverages) seems to have very little effect on me.

Yes, there's water too, (hot water too probably). But they aren't really an alternative for water are they?

And the health risks are quite small actually, and that wasn't my main point. (Maybe I shouldn't have added that particular passage, but I came across it when I made my assignment.) And I already said that I don't care that others drink coffee, so scratcher if you like coffee, sure go ahead and drink it. (ruining your life purely means that I can't imagine me drinking coffee, I know that it's a wrong formulation, but it just is a way for me to get my point of view clear)

My main point was that there's a certain attitude to coffee that I don't like. It's as common for someone to say: "hey would you like a cup of coffee?" as it is to say: "hey would you like something to drink?"
This way you're always regarded as being 'different from the rest', just because you don't like coffee. The point isn't that you shouldn't like/drink coffee, just that I hate that mentality.

Mmmm, pizza.
Alcohol is worse, really.

I don't like coffee either, but when I'm in Italy, I can't resist drinking cappucchino. Also, I've never met or heard of anyone who was socially pushed into drinking coffee. It's more common with beer (which doesn't taste either), just visit any random student city.

In general, if you enjoy what you are drinking/smoking/injecting/sniffing/believing/eating, go ahead, just don't bother me with it.

Daniel, there are clowns.
You know... I don't often actually say this, but... suck it up and quit whining. Nobody, except your neurotic self, actually gives a shoot whether or not you drink coffee. If don't like it, just don't drink it. It's pretty simple.

Mildly deranged.
I don't like coffee or beer, but I make up for it by being naturally hyperactive and clumsy.

Social pressure to drink coffee? "Sir, you had better drink this coffee I've made for you, or you will be bludgeoned"? I think you're being a bit silly.

If anybody speaks to me before my cup of coffee in the morning, they can expect me to rip off their head and spit down their neck.

I can't imagine you suffering anything like that. Not if you just say "No thanks". Just don't explain why you consider coffee as a hateful substance. People won't like this. At least I would not appreciate your opinion at the moment

Truer words were never spoken. I have quite the heavy coffee addiction, more espresso addiction (when I'm out of epsresso grounds, my morning caffiene is a cup of coffee and a glass of dr pepper)...so coffee does pretty much run my life. It's like the abusive drunkard policeman husband that is sorry that he hit you.

Nice subject.

I dont drink coffee. I think it tastes bad and has enough caffeine to be addictive too easily. Lots of people are addicted to caffeine without knowing it.

I honestly drink an average of one soda a day and thats it. At a party I might allow myself a few more to stay alert while playing multiplayer games, but thats it for me and addictive substances.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller
