There's nearly always alternatives for coffee: Tea, cocoa, milk, water, lemonade, etc. As for any other kind of social pressure, I've never even heard of someone looking down on someone for not drinking coffee...
My opinion is, drink it if you like the taste. It's addictive, yes, but not nearly enough so that anyone with a little bit of willpower couldn't stop drinking it at will. As for the health concerns, while coffee might not be healthy, there are many other drinks and foods which are more dangerous. Rather than "ruining" my life by drinking coffee, I'd not "ruin" it by prohibiting myself something I find enjoyable.
